The National Weather Service says the cold front heading to the Mid-South is something you haven't seen here in years.
"This is going to be the coldest weather we have seen in almost two decades at least 15 years since 1996 was about the last time we saw temperatures this cold," said Benjamin Schott with the National Weather Service.
Single digit temperatures isn't good for your pipes in your home. Rick Stone, a master plumber in Memphis says one big way to keep your pipes from freezing is as a simple as running the water.
"The easiest thing is to let the water run, water will not freeze when it's running. People want to let it drip and it will freeze when it's dripping so it needs to be a steady stream hot and cold," said Rick Stone.
He also says you should insulate your pipes.
"What we recommend is to insulate all the pipes we use a split and it's real easy to put on," said Stone.
State Farms also recommends keep the thermostat to 55 degrees or higher, open your cabinet doors to allow the heat to circulate, and disconnect garden hoses before cold weather comes.

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -
This weekend's sub-zerotemperatures are a cause for concern for homeowners.
For the most part, things are quiet right now, but plumbers across Western Massachusetts expect the calls to start coming in over about busted pipes during the next few days.
If they were not treated before the frigid temps, there is a chance outdoor pipes are frozen.
One plumber with 30 years of experience toldCBS 3 that if they are frozen, things could get worse for homeowners as we go back above freezing.
"When everything thaws out, you'll start seeing stuff on the outside walls," said Richard Paige, owner of Frank Paige Plumbing and Heating. "Maybe the outside faucet is frozen and it will thaw itself out. Ideally you haven't kept your temperatures down too low. Sixty to 65 degrees is the minimum. If you get much below that, you're asking for trouble with your outside walls or you might get freeze ups."
While it may be too late to treat trouble spots now, there are things homeowners can do down the line, so they will not have to worry about frozen pipes in the future.
"If you have a troublesome area, like an outside wall that doesn't get much sunlight, sometimes it's just going to freeze," said Paige. "If you have a troublesome spot like that, you might want to keep your water dribbling just a little bit. Moving water will not freeze."
Something else to help in the fight against frozen pipes are relatively new "Pex" pipes.
They are made ofa material that will expand with frozen water, but has a memory to return to its former shape once the water thaws.

Policemen at the spot on the fourth floor of Vitthal Rakhmai Mandir, Dahisar, where the body was found.
The semi-decomposed body of a 43-year-old man was found hidden beneath tiles at the Vitthal Rakhmai Mandir, Dahisar (East) on Friday. According to the police, the body of Dattu Linga Attapalli had been buried the periphery of a low concrete culvert-like structure abutting a wall on the fourth floor of the temple.
The crime came to light after a plumber found fingers sticking out beneath some tiles. The police said Attapalli, who hailed from Andhra Pradesh, was a conservancy worker and lived on the temple premises at Anand Nagar. His 20-year-old son, Suresh, also works at the place of worship.
The body was buried in the wall of a drainage outlet and then covered with tiles and sealed a few days ago. The drainage outlet hole was one feet deep. He was attacked with a sharp weapon. there were injury marks on his head and all over the body, said a police officer.
On Friday afternoon, a man had come to check the tap on the fourth floor when he saw Attapallis body parts and notice a foul odour emanating from the place.
The plumber started yelling following which people gathered at the spot. They then informed the Dahisar police. The cops immediately took out the body and sent for post-mortem.
The police said Attapalli had been working on the temple premises for the past one year. He had gone missing about three days ago.
According to the police, Akkapalli last met the security guard of the temple on late December 30. He was in an inebriate state and was sleeping on the footpath outside the temple. However, his son never filed a missing persons complaint.
The Dahisar police have registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence.
Prima facie, this looks like he was killed due to some fight. A lot of workers live and work around the temple. We are rounding up everyone for questioning. Investigations are on, said a police officer.

EAST COUNTY Some of the nations top trainee carpenters, electricians and pipe fitters will join a select group of apprentice plumbers, sheet metal workers and welders in spring for the 2014 National Craft Championships and that includes three San Diego County residents who recently won a local competition to earn berths.
Santee plumbing apprentice Richard Ederer of Sherwood Mechanical, Alpine sheet metal apprentice Kevin Sullivan of Brian Cox Mechanical and electrical apprentice Franklin Noble of Poway all took first-place finishes in the San Diego Associated Builders and Contractors Apprenticeship Craft Championship Competition, held Dec. 7 in Poway.
The trio of locals will represent San Diego in the ABC National Craft Championships from April 29 to May 2 in Birmingham, Ala. The competition is considered the craft Olympics of the apprenticeship construction industry.
The San Diego ABC Apprenticeship program has a tradition of national winners, with 13 medals won in the last 12 years. Last year, sheet metal apprentice Clayton Courter of Escondido brought home a gold medal, the third year in a row that a San Diego sheet metal apprentice has been on the national winners podium.
Sullivan, a 2003 Monte Vista High graduate, said Courter has offered to help him prepare for the national event. He finished second to Courter at the San Diego event last year.
I did the competition last year in Poway and got second place, so if I didnt win it this year, Id look really bad, Sullivan said, laughing. Im going to to my best (in the nationals) to make everybody proud.
The annual competition tests skills, emphasizing the role craft skills training plays in construction by evaluating contestants technical knowledge as well as their skill and talent.
Contestants must successfully complete hundreds of hours of classroom training and thousands of hours of practical field experience to be eligible to compete. Apprentices and craft trainees who score high marks on a written exam are invited to participate in the skills portion of the competition to determine the San Diego local champions.
The San Diego competition was tough, the contestants concurred, as they raced against the clock to complete a project as close to the specifications provided as possible, with only the specific materials provided. Judges observe the competitors, looking for safe work practices before scoring each project. The project scores and written test scores are combined to determine the winner.
We took a two-hour comprehensive test with obscure plumbing codes people dont even think about, and then did work on a mock wall as if someone made a building and we have to plumb in it, said Ederer, 26, a 2005 West Hills High alumnus. We used every type of pipe there is, so (judges) know that you can do them all. We had four hours to complete the plumbing section.
