A heating and plumbingcontractor has been found not guiltyof the manslaughter of a woman who died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

46-year-old Richard Davis of Ballygarvan in Co Cork was also acquitted of two charges under the Safety,Health andWelfare at Work Act.

The company he was a director of - Davis Heating and Plumbing Contractors - was also acquitted.

Miriam Reidy was found dead, and her sister Patricia in a distressed condition, in a room of the Trident Hotel in Kinsale in January 2011.

MsReidy, a bank official from Ballyhahillin CoLimerick, died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Throughout the three-week trial, MrDavisdenied all the charges.His companyalso pleaded not guilty to two similar charges under the act.

After deliberating for more than fivehours, the jury of ninemen and threewomen returned a majority verdict of not guilty on all fivecounts.

Speaking afterwards, a solicitor on behalf of Mr Davis said he did notwant to make any formal statement out of respect to the lateMsReidy and her family.

The State had argued that while MrDavis did not set out to harm anyone, he had been grossly negligent in the conversion of a new boiler from natural gas to liquid petroleum gas, and had left it spewing out lethal quantities of carbon monoxide gas.

He had failed, they argued, to convert it correctly, to follow manufacturer's instructions, and to carry out a safety test with a meter when he finished the job.

A local plumber is accused of secretly recording a customer while she was in the bathroom.

James Bartholomeusz is locked up in the Benton County Jail. Detectives say in the video recording they found over the course of their investigation, the female victim was naked.

Police arrested Bartholomeusz on Monday. He owns Ace Rooter Services which advertises that they do jobs all over Albany, Corvallis and the Salem- Keizer area.

Police say it was a job at a house near the Oregon State University campus that these particular charges stem from, and the alleged victim no longer lives here.

Investigators say he secretly recorded the woman while she was in the shower. It happened just about a year ago.

You know around campus, there's this rep that girls have to be careful out, but now in their own house and bathroom where you think you're in private, said OSU student Anna Robinson. "It's sick."

I just hope the girls are OK and they work their way through this, it can't be easy to learn that this has happened, said OSU student Analise Sinz.

Bartholomeusz's bail is set at $20,000.

Repeat offender in Auckland receives $2,500 fine for illegal advertising

An Auckland man has been convicted for a third time and fined $2,500 for illegally advertising his services as a plumber and has been ordered to pay solicitors costs of $113.00 and court costs of $130.

Bruce Hume advertised his services as a plumber in the North Shore Times when he was not authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Board to carry out sanitary plumbing work.

Mr Hume was previously convicted for two similar offences in July of last year that resulted in a total fine of $2000. Less than three months later Mr Hume continued to advertise his services.

Plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying are regulated industries in New Zealand and it is illegal for anyone to do this work unless they are authorised to do so by the Board.

Advertising may suggest a tradesperson is legitimate, when in fact they are not. The public should always protect themselves against misleading information and its consequences by asking to see a plumbers authorisation card.

Mr Hume falsely represented his trade status for a second time when he advertised his services as a plumber in the local newspaper. He has never been registered, licensed or otherwise authorised by the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Board to carry out sanitary plumbing work. The Boards Chief Executive, Max Pedersen said: There are serious health and safety risks associated with sanitary plumbing carried out by an unauthorised person. Any defective plumbing work has the potential to cause disease and serious damage to the home.

All authorised tradespeople are required to carry their current authorisation card. We urge consumers to ask tradespeople for this card before any work commences so that they can be assured that the work is being done by an authorised and competent tradesperson.

If a homeowner or building inspector believes that work has been done by someone who is not authorised, or has concerns about the competency of tradespeople, they can make a complaint to the Board.

Mr Hume pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to the charges and was sentenced in the North Shore District Court on 15 October 2014.
