A Red Oak woman tells police when Aaron Johnson, 38, came to her apartment she thought he was there to exterminate bugs. Instead, she now believes he planted them, after she found an audio recording device in her bedroom.

The recording device she found was under her bedroom TV box. When Red Oak police did a search, they found a second audio recording device behind her bed on the floor.

Police quickly narrowed the crime down to one suspect, Johnson. They executed a search of his home after getting a warrant and found more audio recording devices and several firearms with ammunition. (To see a some of the evidence pictures, click on the View Gallery button above the video box.)

Johnson was immediately arrested for electronic and mechanical eavesdropping, a serious misdemeanor, and a felon in possession of a firearm, a class D felony.

Montgomery County Attorney Bruce Swanson said the evidence in the case is strong.

"It's bizarre and it's frightening," said Swanson. "This lady was very frightened and justifiably so. When they found the second one she really got upset. That is a massive invasion of your privacy."

Johnson owns his own pest control company called RMPKA, which is how police believe he was able to get inside the victim's apartment.

Newton Heath and Moston have been named as the rat capitals of Manchester after it was revealed the council was called out thousands of times to deal with vermin.

The town hall has its own pest control service which residents can ask to come and deal with infestations in or around their homes.

And workers have so far dealt more than 1,800 rat cases this year alone.

The figure is a drop on last year, when nearly 2,600 cases were dealt with by pest controllers.

A total of 359 of those were in the M40 postcode, which covers Newton Heath and Moston as well as Collyhurst and Miles Platting.

Councillors say that is most likely due to the canal running through the area and the large amount of building work that has been carried out.

Meanwhile, the council have also dealt with more 5,200 reports of mice so far this year, the equivalent of 17 a day.

More than 1,000 of those were in Moss Side and Fallowfield, which has a large a student population.

The area was also responsible for 15 call-outs for bed bugs, and wasps in properties, the most anywhere in the city, as part of the service which they charge for.

John Flanagan, ward councillor for Miles Platting and Newton Heath said: Im obviously not happy that there seems to be lots of rats in the area.

Maharaja Yeshwantrao in Indore, about 800 kilometres south of Delhi, is still home to more than 10,000 rodents, said Sanjay G Karmakar, head of Laxmi Fumigation and Pest Control Service Ltd.

The complex consists of seven buildings across about 10 acres.

"We have only tackled a part of the grounds so far - they are riddled with rodent burrows, at least 1,000 of them. Each would have four to eight rodents.

"We have not started on the buildings yet," Karmakar said.

The pest control firm is baiting the rodents with different food each day. "One day it is peanuts and clarified butter, another day it's roasted chickpeas, potato cakes and so on," Karmakar said.

"If one of a family dies after eating something, the other rats wont touch the same food, so we have to keep changing the menu."
