Bogus health dept staff arrested - February 17, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gang members masqueraded as Health Department and pest control company staff.

NIBONG TEBAL: The police have crippled a robbery gang masquerading as Health Department staff carrying out fogging activities at foreign workers quarters in the state after arresting five men in Kamunting, Perak on February 8.

Penang CID chief Mazlan Kesah said one of the men was arrested at a house in Kamunting, after which four of his friends were also caught in the same area.

They masqueraded as Health Department and pest control company staff, requesting victims to evacuate their premises for spraying purposes, but at the same time took the opportunity to steal valuable items such as electronic equipment and cash, he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said three of the five men aged between 19 and 27 tested positive for drugs while two others had past criminal records.

Based on investigations, the group was believed to be involved in 51 cases, 19 in Penang involving losses of more than RM100,000, and the rest in Kedah, Perak and Negeri Sembilan.

He said the police also seized one mosquito repellant spray pump, chemicals, a mobile phone and a four-wheel-drive vehicle which was used by the gang to carry out the robberies.

Mazlan said the police were looking for a man named Mohd Nuzul Che Man, 27, from Kamunting, Perak, to assist investigations and those with any information regarding the man were urged to contact the nearest police station.

Meanwhile in another development, Mazlan said the body found floating in Sungai Udang here last Saturday was that of a Sikh woman who was reportedly kidnapped in Subang Jaya, Selangor a day earlier.

The case is being investigated by the Selangor police contingent and Penang police will assist with the investigations as the body was found in this state, he said.

Pest control company helping to exterminate hunger - February 16, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Ecoshield Pest Control, a company dedicated towards aiding residential and business areas with insects and other rodents, recently began another endeavor to help those in need. They have set up a website in hopes of collecting food and other essential items for those less fortunate.

Exterminate Hunger is an initiative designed by the company to accept donations of non-perishable food items that then get distributed to area families in need throughout the country. To date, they have received more than 6,700 donations from people nationally. In Houston, Exterminate Hunger has collected more than 750 donations.

Hunger is not just an American problem; its everyones problem, said Ecoshield Pest Control CEO Doug Cardon. While many people might think other countries have a greater need, the fact is that one in every six Americans faces that challenge. Millions of Americans are unable to adequately provide for themselves and their families. Frequently, they are hard-working adults or seniors and children who are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days.

Ecoshield Pest Control offices in other states have also overseen successful drives. Drop-off sites in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Corona, California, for example, have gathered more than 1,000 and 2,500 contributions, respectively. The outpouring of support has been tremendous, but it should not stop after the holidays, Cardon said.

We think about those who do not have as much during the holidays, but hunger is a year-round problem, said Cardon. Hunger does not take the rest of the year off. Families have to struggle to find food and that should not be the case. Thats why we have this plan to help those who need it available.

For more information on where to drop off donations, please visit their website at: http://www.exterminatehunger.com; the company website at: http://www.ecoshieldpest.com, call them at: 832-538-1263, visit them at: 2001 Karbach St., Ste. Houston, or make a donation when a company representative makes a house call.

PHOTO CAPTION: There is no better time than right now to get involved with the Exterminate Hunger campaign going on in the area. The project needs the regions assistance in getting non-perishable food items such as cereal and canned goods to those in need.

Rabbit and rodent pest control laws changing - February 16, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Monday 16 February 2015 11:36

New legislation affecting the control of rabbits, rats and moles on farms is due to come into force in nine months.

From 26 November, farmers and gamekeepers will need to hold a certificate of competence by law to use alumunium phosphides to control these pests in their burrows even if they have had previous training in this area.

The use of aluminium phosphide products, such as Talunex and Phostoxin, has long been governed and restricted.

However, the new rules introduce a legal requirement for users to be certified under the Plant Protection Products (Sustainable Use) Regulations 2012.

Users will have to hold a City and Guilds Level 2 Award in the safe use of aluminium phosphide for vertebrate pest control.

The qualification has been developed for pest controllers, gamekeepers and farmworkers who use aluminium phosphide to control rats, moles and rabbits and addresses the requirement that users must hold a recognised certificate for the use and purchasing of the product.

It consists of a theory unit, which is assessed by a short exam, and a competence unit, assessed by practical exercises.

The Register of Accredited Metallic Phosphide Standards (Ramps) UK is overseeing the new regulation.

Pest control company inspects elementary school

By Mary Hill Friday, February 13, 2015 11:43 PM EST

    mhill@titusvilleherald.com

A pest control company conducted an inspection of Main Street Elementary School on Thursday and found no bed bugs in the school.

According to Titusville Area School District Superintendent Karen Jez, Ehrlich Pest Control was at the school Thursday evening to inspect the schools bathrooms after the discovery of a bed bug infestation in late January.

The infested bathrooms were treated on Feb. 2.

As part of the regular protocol, they [Ehrlich] did a second application of pesticide and then that sat overnight, Jez said. All the areas treated were cleaned on Friday for the return of students on Tuesday.

Students had Friday off, and also have Monday off for the Presidents Day holiday.

Our own maintenance folks are inspecting [the rooms] daily, and Ehrlich did an inspection and found no bed bugs, Jez said.

She added that as a precaution, students will continue to bag their individual belongings until March 5, the date of the next inspection.
