Pest control inspectors work with ETX school to relocate bats - February 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Pest control experts are working with the Kilgore College of Cosmetology Tuesday in Longview to help push out bats that are calling parts of the schools attic as their 'home'.

School resumed at the Kilgore College Cosmetology in Longview as normal, just a day after two bats were found flying around the building.

Julie Fowler, the dean of Kilgore College in Longview says the school is working with a pest control service to eliminate all the bats that remain near the attic of the building.

"One of the things that he suggested that we're going to do, in fact, we're going to do it today, is put bright lights in the attic so that will make the bats say 'this is not where we want to be', and they'll go somewhere else," says Fowler.

The inspectors found little holes and crevices on the building that they need to fill and close.

"We were thinking three-quarters of an inch and he said, no three-eighths of an inch this type of bat can get in; so they're tiny little creatures," says Fowler.

For now, Fowler says educating the students about bats is important, and not all of the information is negative.

"The bats just gobble up those mosquitoes and flies, and what great little animals to have around," says Fowler.

Fowler says keeping the bats around by providing bat shelters is a natural way to help fight off the West Nile Virus.

Weihrauch HW100 PCPs air rifle are famous for its precision, we had a spider pest infestation at our farm, hundreds of them. So to control it I started to hunt then. They are approximately 10 meters away. Each spider had a approximately size of a 5 cents coin.

Call for pigeon pest controller - February 3, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

1 February 2013 Last updated at 23:02 ET

A pigeon pest controller is needed to keep Peterborough clear of droppings, a city councillor has said.

Independent John Fox said: "The birds are all over the place and everything's covered in poo. The steps of the beautiful guildhall are ruined by it."

He called on the council to employ a pest controller to deal with the birds.

A spokesman said: "Like many other councils we have no policy to control or cull pigeons." He encouraged people not to feed the birds.

Mr Fox said: "This city is trying to encourage a European cafe culture, but that's not going to happen as things are.

"There are four big flocks of feral pigeons and they are becoming a pest.

"They would go back to the rural areas if people would stop feeding them. Right now, they seem to prefer to come here for a sandwich."

He said he planned to talk to the council about the possibility of asking businesses to "chip in" and employ a pest controller for Peterborough.

Paul Phillipson, executive director of operations for the city council, said: "Pigeons are common to every town and city in the UK and Peterborough is no exception."

New pest control service for Kingsburg - February 2, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Kingsburg City Council members voted at their Jan. 16 meeting to change the citys pest control service from Banner to Cal State Pest Control. The change will save the city $25.75 per month. We need a company thats experienced in a broad variety of pest related issues and who are diligent in addressing our goal to prevent these problems, said Kingsburg City Manager Don Pauley.

During the meeting, Council Member Ben Creighton noted that he had heard a bad report regarding Banner about its services. Pauley told the council during the meeting that Assistant Public Works Director Darren Hays had spoken to Banner representatives about their quality and costs.

Under the new contract, Cal State of Selma will conduct pest control treatments each month at the citys various properties. These include the historical park, memorial park, police station, fire stations, swimming pool, downtown park, City Hall and public works yard.

Its a large number of facilities that require monthly treatment, Pauley said.

The bid also covers parks that dont have buildings at those locations. And, Cal State will treat water well sites as needed.
