H&F on track to surpass pest control budget, director says
Keep your room pest free:

OU Housing and Food Services may surpass its annual pest control budget this year, officials say.
From October 1 to September 30 every year, Housing and Food has $119,000 to spend on controlling pests around campus, said Housing and Food director Dave Annis. Since October, $60,000 of that budget has already been spent.
At that rate, Housing and Food will probably surpass its pest control budget, Annis said. While the department does not have routine inspections, facilities are treated each month.
Terminix Extermination Services, the departments main pest control service provider, treats Traditions Square apartments, Kraettli Apartments, campus dining facilities and residence hall basements and main floors, Annis said.
Terminix conducted its routine service on more than 25 housing and dining locations on campus in January, according to the receipts generated for service.
The upper floors of residence halls are not treated unless there is evidence of pests, Annis said. However, the dorms do receive attention throughout the year when students move in and out. Custodians and housekeepers inspect, make repairs and clean the rooms at the end of the semester.
We probably have housekeepers in rooms at least half a dozen times throughout the summer cleaning the rooms, Annis said. We very seldom see anything.

Giving the best personal service possible at the lowest price possible has kept an East Polk County business going since 1963. Economy Termite & Pest Control LLC, 1114 E. Hinson Ave. in Haines City, is family-owned and devoted to giving back to the community.
"God has blessed our family in many ways," said Kim Carter, office manager for Economy Termite. "Being able to give back to others whether it is physical or financial has been a great blessing. I feel if you help those like the FFA (Future Farmers of America) students, it will teach them to be future business owners, commissioners, and giving, helpful citizens to our city, and achieve greater opportunities."
In addition to supporting the teaching of agriculture business management to the youth in the Polk, the company has dedicated three years of service with the American Cancer Society through their Relay for Life program.
"We also lost a family member to cancer four years ago, so Relay for Life is important to our family," she said.
Along with educating the youth and helping to fight cancer, owners Harvey, Bobbie and Michael Carter have supported a long-standing Christian organization in Haines City for more than 30 years: Landmark Baptist Church, which includes Landmark Baptist College, Landmark Elementary and High schools, and WLVF Gospel 90.3 radio station.
Jay Lewis is the ministry administrator for all the ministries at Landmark Baptist Church.
"We are a nonprofit organization. Having individuals and businesses giving is really essential to what we do. A nonprofit organization can't operate without the generosity of businesses like Economy. They have been involved with anything we have done," Lewis said. "We have an extensive missions program and they are instrumental with that, and were involved with restoring the Christian radio station. I can't think of a time when they were not involved."
Economy Termite and Pest Control also has supported Emry's Acres Therapeutic Riding Center, Haines City High School FFA Chapter and the United Disabled Veterans of Florida.

Atlanta Pest Control Company Announces 10% Discount on Initial Pest Control Service
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 11, 2013
To redeem the 10% discount, the coupon must be printed from ABC Atlanta's website and presented to the technician at the time of service. An annual service agreement is required for the discount.
Although prevention techniques can be effective, it is impossible to ensure that a home will not end up with an infestation. Simple DIY pest-removal techniques will not get the job done. Effective extermination depends on the type of pest and extent of the infestation. Allow a professional pest control company to help. They have the techniques necessary to properly identify, help prevent and control an infestation.

In an effort to improve customer experience, a New Jersey-based pest control company has completely redesigned its website.
Tinton Falls, New Jersey (PRWEB) March 04, 2013
R. Brett Madden, Esq., spokesman for Alliance Commercial Pest Control, a leading provider of residential and commercial pest control services in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, said one of the most noticeable enhancements of his companys new design is the much improved site navigation.
The new design allows users to find the exact information they need to know for their specific pest problem or industry, Madden said, before adding, The newly designed website reflects Alliances mission to provide all users with the ability to easily find exactly what they need to make an informed decision about selecting the right pest control company.
Madden went on to point out that the primary reason the company redesigned its website is because the company wanted a website that is open and accessible to the consumer.
To accomplish this, weve expanded the user interface, Madden noted. These features allow users to get more in-depth information on a particular topic they choose with a more standardized menu structure.
In addition, Madden said, the new design features a variety of new sections, which include: Residential Services, Commercial Services, Secure Customer Login to manage accounts, Pest Worthy Blog to get the latest pest news, Special Offers, Complete Social Media Integration, and much more.
The revamping of the companys website could prove to have perfect timing.
According to industry statistics, between the end of winter season and early spring is the best time of year for residents and businesses to have pest control services rendered. Termite invasions, according to statistics, often times start as early as mid-March.
While other pest control companies were spraying unnecessary chemicals around your home or business, we were developing and utilizing Integrated Pest Management, Madden said. Our office staff is highly skilled at the process of customer service, scheduling and seeing the entire job through from start to finish. We not only want to make sure that service was performed as promised, we want to ensure total satisfaction afterwards too.

Rat surge fears as pest control cut -

Cuts in council pest control services could lead to an explosion in rat numbers, a health body has warned.
More than a quarter of Wales' councils now charge residents to get rid of rats, up from just one six years ago.
Others charge for mice, fleas, bedbugs and cockroach services, and one council has stopped pest control entirely.
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) said it was concerned people not wanting to pay would ignore infestations.
Figures obtained by BBC Wales show that six of Wales' 22 councils now charge residents up to 40 to eradicate rats from inside their homes: Anglesey, Cardiff, Gwynedd, Newport, Powys and Wrexham.
Nine local authorities charge people to remove mice, while more councils charge for insect pests, such as fleas, bedbugs, cockroaches and wasps.
Meanwhile, Carmarthenshire stopped offering a pest control treatment service entirely in 2011 to save 82,000 and offers advice instead.
It is feared pest control will come in for more cuts in the coming year as cash-strapped councils try to make savings, with Monmouthshire council putting forward plans to scrap its free service in its April budget.
Julie Barratt, director of CIEH Wales, said some people might not be able to afford to pay the council or a private company to deal with vermin.

Leading Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia pest control company Affordable Pest, LLC, issues a warning to consumers to prepare for larger brown marmorated stink bug populations in the coming spring.
The Department of Agriculture and Virginia Tech research is showing that the population of stink bugs is set to explode in 2013 and could be nearly six times as large as it was in 2012. Unfortunately, the damage to gardens and crops may be severe this year because of the sheer projected size of the stink bug population on the East Coast," says Affordable Pest founder Jason Fields. Fortunately and unlike last year, we have some newer tools to fight this pest such as pheromone traps and EPA approved sprays.
The best way for a home owner to control stink bug populations is though exclusion and a professional pest control company such as Affordable Pest. A professional pest control company will seal cracks around windows, doors, siding and other openings in a building to prevent a stink bug infestations. They will also use EPA approved sprays to kill the noxious bugs. For smaller populations of stink bugs, home owners can use a common vacuum to suction the pests away though homeowners should immediately dispose of the vacuum bags to contain the noxious odors from the pests.
The brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) is originally from Asia but has established itself in 29 states including Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia Affordable Pests service area. The bug, originally from Asia and known for its noxious odor that is reminiscent of burning rubber, poses a serious threat to both agriculture and consumers. It feeds on a wide variety of plants apples and peaches to tomatoes, peppers and corn. Most Virginia, Maryland and DC residents come into contact with the brown marmorated stink bug during the fall and spring when it overwinters inside their homes or emerges in the spring. Slight disturbances to the bug cause it to release its foul smell.
Like its other stink bug cousins, the brown marmorated stink bug is shaped like a shield and is approximately 5/8 inch long and is a molted brownish grey color. The eggs of the brown marmorated Stink Bug are often laid on the underside of leaves and a light green in color. They are elliptical in shape and are often deposited in a mass of approximately 28 eggs.

Virginia Pest Control Company Affordable Pest LLC Announces Larger Stink Bug Infestations This Spring

Pest Control | Comments Off on Virginia Pest Control Company Affordable Pest LLC Announces Larger Stink Bug Infestations This Spring
The rising ubiquity of bed bugs has fuelled demand for pest extermination professionals over the past five years, underpinning robust industry revenue growth. For these reasons, industry research firm IBISWorld has added a report on the Pest Control industry to its growing industry report collection.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 09, 2013
Pest control services in Canada are traditionally geared toward the commercial market, which makes up an estimated 80.0% of industry revenue, according to information from Pest Control Technology. Pest control operators are increasingly targeting residential customers and diversifying their service lines, however, in order to take advantage of more untapped markets. This trend is expected to accelerate over the coming five years, says Moldvay, partly because greater regulations aimed at some over-the-counter pesticide products are expected to take effect, limiting competition from substitute products.
The Pest Control industry has a moderate degree of market share concentration that has expanded over the past five years. Larger companies have pursed targeted acquisitions in order to increase the density of their client base. With high transportation costs, larger pest control companies are increasingly acquiring nearby companies to expand the number of clients they serve within their immediate vicinity. For instance, in 2009, Orkin Canada acquired British Columbia-based Advanced Pest Control and Bug-R-off Pest Control.
Over the five years to 2018, the Pest Control industry is expected to continue its upward trajectory. Bed bugs are expected to become increasingly present in both homes and commercial establishments, keeping demand for pest extermination professionals steady, particularly in urban areas. The strong demand will foster product development over the next five years, particularly in the areas of heat-based solutions, given increasing insecticide resistance.
