Cape Town, South Africa (PRWEB UK) 27 June 2014
The Facebook and Twitter survey, which generated responses from 23 countries including USA, UK, Latvia, Australia, South Africa and the Caribbean, asked participants to choose their top three most feared pests. *The global ranking is as follows:
1. Cockroaches 2. Bed bugs 3. Spiders 4. Rodents 5. Wasps 6. Mosquitoes 7. Termites 8. Flies 9. Ants 10. Birds
*Reveal Your Top 3 Most Feared Pests survey, Rentokil, June, 2014 (1,435 votes).
The survey was conducted alongside Rentokils Global Pestaurant Day celebrations that took place around the world on 4 June 2014, while South Africas Pestaurant event took place on the 31st May at the Good Food and Wine Show. Whilst Rentokil experts are used to helping customers gain control of their pest problems, these events gave attendees the opportunity to quite literally eat their fears by sampling edible bug delicacies, such as chocolate covered ants.
Nathalie Leblond, Marketing Communications Manager, comments: When pests invade your home or business, you need a fast, reliable service to eliminate risk of damage to your property and the health of those within it. Finding cockroaches in your home or business can be very distressing. As known carriers of diseases such as Salmonella, Dysentery & Gastro-enteritis, exposure to this pest also poses significant health risks. If you have noticed an unpleasant, lingering odour under sinks, behind appliances or in store cupboards, its time to check for signs of cockroaches.
Rentokils technicians have the tools to control pests around the world, so whilst cockroaches may be the Worlds most feared pest, you can leave it to the experts to implement professional and effective cockroach control treatments.
Practical advice on identifying and getting rid of the pests in the most feared list can be found at http://www.rentokil.co.za and tips on getting rid of cockroaches can be found on Rentokil's blog.
You can see the action from the global Pestaurant day and events that took place around the world on the following platforms:

A national pest control company says it has seen an unusual spike in bedbug cases this year in Nova Scotia and the rest of the Maritimes, an increase they believe was partly due to bad winter weather.
When people stay home more than usual, the constant availability of blood meals speeds up the bugs reproduction, said Jim Newhook, Atlantic branch manager at Abell Pest Control.
It definitely contributed somewhat. They have to feed five times before they can breed.
However, a raft of other changes also play a role in bedbugs steady move into Atlantic Canada, said Newhook, who teaches a seminar on bedbugs in the tourism management program at Nova Scotia Community College.
This year, there were also more calls than usual from rural Nova Scotia, said Mike Heimbach, director of business development at Abell, which he said is the second-biggest pest control company in Canada.
Bedbugs took a little longer to reach the East Coast than the rest of the country, but now they are making their way from hotels and urban dwellings through the region, said Heimbach.
What we are seeing is bedbugs are spreading further and further away from major cities, he said.
They started where youd have them in Halifax theyre spreading out to more rural areas where people are travelling.
Overall, Abell has seen about 25 per cent more calls about bedbugs in the past year compared with the one previous, said Heimbach.
Throughout the rest of Canada, the average year-over-year increase in calls was 20 per cent, he said.

Pest control manager Ray Morgan says over the next several days a lot of mosquitoes are going to descend on the city.
REGINA Reginas been swamped by rain lately but when it finally clears, theres likely to be another reason to complain.
Pest control manager Ray Morgan says over the next several days a lot of mosquitoes are going to descend on the city.
Theyre seeing lots of larvae in standing water around the city and those will inevitably emerge into full-blown skeeters.
Although the numbers are expected to be higher this summer, Morgan says Regina is still under the ten-year average for mosquito populations.
Mosquito population expected to rise in Regina over the next few days.

HOUSTON A historic community center in southwest Houston is one step closer to returning to its original purpose now that tens of thousands of unwanted guests have been rounded up and carted away along with their queens.
The Almeda Plaza Civic Club clubhouse on Knotty Oaks Trail fell into disrepair years ago and became a community eyesore. Plans to tear down the structure and rebuild were put on hold when two massive bee hives were discovered in the walls of the building.
I dont know if theyre honey bees or killer bees but every time we go there they sting us, said Beulah Maxie with the Almeda Plaza Civic Club.
Houston City Councilman Larry Green received an offer for help from Claude Griffin of Gotcha Pest Control. His three-man team suited up in protective suits on Wednesday and tore open an outside east-facing wall to reveal a floor-to-ceiling hive of honey bees. A second hive of equal size was found in a north facing wall.
This is a serious, serious issue that has been neglected for a very, very long time, said Griffin.
Neighbors, city officials and firefighters who were on standby in case anyone needed medical attention, retreated to their vehicles when the bees began to swarm and attack anyone within a city block of the building. No one was seriously injured, however, as Griffin removed several pounds of honeycomb and vacuumed the bees and their queens into cage containers so they could be safely carted away.
