Burglar makes off with diamond watch after being confronted by house occupants in early-morning raid - March 9, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

A burglar escaped with a diamond watch after wrestling with the occupants of a house during a raid in Middleton.

The thief used tools to force the patio doors of the house on Mainway before combing it for valuables in the early hours of this morning.

Using one of the victims bags to sweep valuables into, they took a set of car keys and a Christian Dior Ladies watch worth 5,500 from the kitchen.

However, he woke the occupants who ran to confront him and wrestled with him in the upstairs of the property as they tried to restrain him.

He dropped the bag filled with stolen goods, and despite suffering an injured leg in the melee, managed to escape down the stairs and out the patio doors towards Malvern Road taking the luxury watch with him.

Detectives have now hailed the victims bravery and are appealing for help catching the culprit.

He was white and wearing a black hat or balaclava, grey tracksuit bottoms, a grey hooded tracksuit top and a dark coloured body warmer.

Detective Constable Andrew Robinson said: The occupants of the house showed great bravery in tackling this man, who unfortunately was able to give them the slip.

However, we believe the burglar may have injured his leg in the struggle so he would have found it difficult to get away in the aftermath.

He dropped most of what he had taken, but still ran off with a black Christian Dior ladies watch with diamonds on the face.

Thieves target pubs and restaurants in late-night raids - March 7, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Money and alcohol have been stolen in a series of late-night raids on licensed premises in Knaphill.

The Crown and Garibaldi pubs, and Italian restaurant La Bella Amalfi, in the High Street, have all been targeted, with the crimes taking place on five consecutive nights.

It has led to calls for extra police patrols in the village.

At The Garibaldi there was an attempted break-in on Sunday night, causing major damage to some doors, and then at around 3.55am on Tuesday (February, 3) the burglar broke in, having broken a lock on a window to the gentlemens toilets.

The burglar was unable to force his way through further doors and into the pub itself, and he ran off empty-handed with the alarm sounding and the bullmastiff dog of Debbie Harlow, a borough councillor who runs the pub and lives upstairs, barking madly.

Repairing the patio doors and window will cost around 500, Cllr Harlow estimated.

Ive been here for 10 years and Ive never had anything like this before, she said. Normally the dog puts people off. Somebody is targeting businesses.

Around 20 minutes later there was a break-in at The Crown, from where a cash drawer containing 180 was stolen. Around half of this was in notes and half was in change and Ade Jones, who runs the pub with his wife Sarah, found a trail of coins in the street outside.

It is not the first time Mr Joness pub has been targeted.

In April last year he had 3,000-worth of wine taken from a garage.
