A travel lane restriction on the Sagamore Bridge in Bourne is scheduled to start on Sept. 22 at 8 a.m.as contractors work to complete the $12.3 million bridge painting project, according to officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Sagamore Bridge lane restriction will be temporary and will avoid dates of peak traffic volume using the bridge. The plan is to take only one lane daily during8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.starting onSept. 22and leave open one lane going on Cape and two lanes going off Cape.
Then, starting on Oct. 14, Sagamore Bridge travel lanes will be restricted to one lane in each direction one lane going on Cape and one lane going off Cape daily during8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Lane closures may be possible on weekends, if needed by the contractor to complete the work.

At a meeting Monday evening, Bradford Township supervisors opened bids for road materials and discussed the prospect of conducting line painting before winter.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. won with the low bids for 60 tons of cold patch at $100 per ton, gabian stone at $35 per ton, 9mm asphalt at $66.50 per ton and 19 mm base at $55.80.
IA Construction Corp. won the bids for antiskid at $7.50 per ton, 2RC at $10.15 per ton, and #3 and #2B gravel at $15.75 per ton each.
Supervisors passed a motion to accept the lowest bids subject to review.
Township Secretary/Treasurer Nora Stewart updated the supervisors as to the progress of securing quotes for painting lines in the township. Stewart said she was having difficulty reaching the necessary people, and the only bid received was more than $18,000.
Supervisor Gayle Bauer thought the amount was too much, pointing out that most of the lines would be gone after winter due to salt and ice.
The other supervisors agreed, asking Police Chief Robb Shipman if he would choose a few roads that were in the most critical need of line-painting prior to the snow.
Shipman decided on West Corydon and High streets because they receive the most traffic.
We may as well wait until spring for the rest or else were just throwing money in the air, Supervisor Chairman Steve Mascho commented.
The supervisors passed a motion to change the streets for the project, seek a new price and table the motion.

A new Aoraki Polytechnic course collaboration is helping address the skill shortage in trades.
Aoraki Polytechnic is offering a new free painting and decorating course run in collaboration with Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT).
The fulltime course starts in November this year and part-time courses in Timaru and Ashburton will start in January.
Aoraki Polytech chief executive Alex Cabrera said the polytechnic was committed to recognising the need in the region.
"We are concentrating on the areas where students have the most likelihood of being able to walk into a job at the end of their studies, and that have the greatest impact on, and demand within, our local regions."
The course will cover brush painting skills, preparation skills for painting and decorating, reducing exposure to health and safety hazards in painting, decorating and coating, roller painting skills, use of colour in decoration and working with timber and plaster surfaces.
Related careers it will lead to include trainee painter apprenticeships, home decorating and retail hardware assistant.
The new part-time course offers students the choice of evening classes and is suitable for a range of people.
"With very low unemployment rates, the demand is for part-time or flexible delivery programmes of study," Cabrera said.
The course has had good interest and a strong initial intake with more than 60 inquiries and 17 people already enrolled.

DEAR ABBY: Please remind beachgoers that they need to leave their fire pits OPEN and not cover them with sand. My 16- month-old grandnephew was walking on a beach in Carmel, California, with his mom and dad when he suffered burns to his feet from walking across sand beneath which were hot coals. It will take at least three weeks for this dear baby's feet to heal from those burns.
People don't realize that covering the coals with sand hides them and keeps them hot for up to 24 hours! Beach fires must be treated differently from those in a forest, where they should be covered with dirt because of the surrounding trees.
