BBMP has liabilities of Rs 11,000 crore, says commissioner - February 28, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Bengaluru, Feb 28, 2015, DHNS:

Painting a grim picture of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palikes (BBMP) financial health, the civic bodys commissioner M Lakshminarayana told its council on Friday that liabilities had gone up to Rs 11,000 crore.

Ahead of the BBMP Council meeting, a large number of BBMP contractors staged a demonstration on the Palike premises demanding payment of their dues. Sympathising with them, some corporators joined them.

Later, the corporators sought an explanation from the commissioner at the Council meeting as to why the contractors were forced to take to the streets for their money. Pending bills

Replying to the Oppositions allegation, the commissioner said pending bills were to the tune of Rs 2,163 crore while the spillover work was worth Rs 4,800 crore. Besides, the Palike has a debt of Rs 4,000 crore.

Lakshminarayana, however, assured the corporators as well as the contractors that he would make every effort to clear the dues in three months. He also added that the BBMP was making arrangements to clear the dues pertaining to solid waste management every three months.

Taking part in the discussion, Basavanagudi MLA Ravi Subramanya suggested that garbage clearance had been affected in his constituency as the contractor had failed to do his duty. The commissioner assured the MLA that he would look into the matter.

    Tainted officers

As many as 34 tainted officials, who were either trapped by the Lokayukta police or are being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), are serving in the BBMP.

The matter came up for discussion when Nagapura corporator S Harish wanted to know why the tainted officers were allowed to work in key departments. We were complaining about 45 engineers, mostly from PWD on deputation to the BBMP, in the Town Planning Department. We were told the TP department would be downsized but we recently got to know that its strength has actually swelled to 55. Why is there such a craze to get posted there, he thundered.

Valdosta business owner arrested for insurance fraud & forgery - February 27, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

An investigation conducted by the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation's Enforcement Division has led to the arrest of Valdosta business owner Pieter A. Demare, Jr. /Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation

VALDOSTA, GA -- An investigation conducted by the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation's Enforcement Division has led to the arrest of Valdosta business owner Pieter A. Demare, Jr.

According to Enforcement Division Director Stan Bexley, Martinez, age 46 was arrested Wednesday, February 25, 2015, and transported to the Lowndes County jail where he is charged with multiple counts of Insurance Fraud and First Degree Forgery.

Pieter Demare, the owner of Demare Wallcoverings, LLC, and DBA Apartment Turn Key Services is a painting contractor that provides residential and commercial painting in and around the Valdosta and North Florida area.

The Enforcement Division's investigation alleges that Demare altered several workers' compensation insurance certificates and then presented the bogus certificates to general contractors in an attempt to avoid paying premium for a valid policy.

Initial estimates indicate Demare has defrauded several insurance companies out of approximately $50,000.00 in workers' compensation premiums by passing the bogus certificates to several Valdosta area apartment complexes.

If anyone has received a certificate of workers' compensation insurance coverage from Pieter Demare, d/b/a Demare Wallcoverings, LLC, or Apartment Turn Key Services and are unable to verify the coverage by using the Board's website http://www.sbwc.georgia.gov , you are asked to contact the State Board of Workers' Compensation's Enforcement Division at (404) 657-7285 or (800) 533-0682.

All other lines of insurance coverage such as auto, home or general liability should be verified directly with the insurance carrier.

Schlow Library remains closed as repairs continue, opening date pushed back - February 25, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Updated: Wednesday, February 25 2015, 05:33 PM EST

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Schlow Centre Regional Library is still trying to overcome flood damage due to a frozen pipe, but the process is a slow one, and their expected reopening date has been pushed back again.

A Closed sign remains on the front door of the library as crews continue to try to repair the upstairs and downstairs that were damaged by water from a frozen pipe.

The drying-out phase is complete, and crews are now painting and making minor repairs, but contractors found yet another frozen pipe a situation they have to take care of before opening day.

Library officials said they know this is an inconvenience, but theyre humbled with the support theyve received. More than $8,000 has been donated so far to help bridge the gap on items their insurance wont cover.

During this closure, library officials want to remind everyone that books that were on hold will still be waiting when their doors do open, and of course, no late fees will be charged.

Library officials said they are confident that theyll be opening next week.

New healthcare facility in Maple Creek nears completion - February 24, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Published on February 23, 2015

After a series of unexpected delays and service location changes, the community of Maple Creek is excited by the prospect of construction being completed at the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility.

Construction completion at the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility is anticipated by mid April, which would pave the way for a May opening of the $37 million healthcare facility.

The Cypress Regional Health Authority provided a construction update at their February 11 meeting, noting that work will be completed over the coming weeks.

"We are anticipating, if the schedule continues to go according to plan, and the general contractors are also attempting to pick up where they can as far as scheduling goes, we're hoping to have substantial completion in that area in mid April. Which would then allow us to get in there, do our more substantial cleans, move the remainder of the equipment and furnishings into those areas, and hopefully be ready for occupancy some time in early to mid May," explained Bryce Martin, Vice President of Communications and Stakeholder Relations.

A shortage of skilled tradespeople resulted in a delay from the originally scheduled summer 2014 opening, with a rescheduled mid-November 2014 possession date then stretched into early in 2015.

The construction completion plan will focus on wholly finishing work in one area before moving into other areas. Phase one consists of the Universal Care Unit area and a good portion of the Acute Care area in the Integrated Facility, while phase two is the remainder of the Acute Care area and the three Long Term Care houses.

"Phase one, we are now to a point they're just going through the final deficiency lists with the general contractor in phase one, and we're going to be to a point where we can gain substantial completion on that one for February 23."

By completing this initial portion of the facility, it will allow the health region to begin moving in equipment and furnishings into the rooms. It will also permit staff to start being orientated to their new surroundings in advance of the opening.

However, there is still painting and flooring being installed in the long term care area, so the entire facility remains a construction zone.

Jerusalem Baptist celebrates renovations, black history Sunday - February 21, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Since August 2014, Jerusalem Baptist Church has been renovating.

During this time, worship services continued every Sunday. The entire Jerusalem Church family participated in the decision of starting and financing the project.

The project was headed by Pastor W. R. Washington, who was installed as the pastor in 2013.

Deacons Leo Smith, Carl Crayton and Franklin Beane, chairman of the deacon board, took the lead in the project. Other deacons include Mitch Mclin, and James Clark.

Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1874. The church was first located on Carter's Ferry Road, which was known as Hubbards' Hill.

Due to its designation as a historical place, no physical changes to the outside of the building could be made. It was sometimes challenging to make changes and add plumbing where no plumbing existed.

The faith and prayers of the membership, strong leadership of the pastor and deacons, excellent contractors, allowed all of the work to be completed. The improvements made included:

Handicapped restrooms for male and female added upstairs and downstairs

New upholstery installed on pews and chairs, and painting

    New carpet installed

OAKLAND (KCBS) Hundreds of small business owners gathered in Oakland this week to try to win a piece of the Super Bowl 50 pie. Theyre hoping for a slice of the millions of dollars in contracts organizers of next years game in Santa Clara will hand out.

The SB 50 Host Committee held a workshop and expo for businesses owned by minorities, women, LGBT folks and disabled veterans.

Committee spokeswoman Stephanie Martin said the NFL is emphasizing them as it hires local contractors to help put on the big game at Levis Stadium in February 2016.

Its hundreds of contracts and millions of dollars of contracts to work on Super Bowl, she said. Everything from entertainers to bartenders to sign painters is up for grabs. Its a gig that Michael Williams of San Jose hopes to land for his two-person painting company.

Oh my god, it would make my world, make my business grow. It would make everything right, so thats what Im trying to do, he said.

Carmel Karrick, who owns Cal Safety in Fremont, hopes to snag a Super Bowl traffic control contract. She said that would be lovely, especially if they could get a couple of free tickets.
