SYRACUSE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--After successfully illuminating more than two dozen sports venues across North America with its revolutionary LED arena lights, Ephesus Lighting in partnership with Durham, N.C.-based Cree, Inc. and Duke University, is taking its innovative stadium lighting solution outdoors. Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium, a multi-purpose outdoor facility that serves as home of the womens field hockey team and is also used for campus recreation and club sports, will become the first NCAA Division I outdoor college sports venue to be lit with LED lighting. The ground-breaking announcement was made Tuesday by Amy Casper, CEO of Ephesus Lighting and Mike Cragg, Deputy Director of Athletics for Operations of Duke University.
Sports facility operators now understand that LED lights are the natural evolution of arena and stadium lighting as it provides an optimal stage for events in person and on high definition television, explained Casper. The success of our lighting solutions and the glowing testimonials from fans, players, television broadcasters and facility operators reinforce and prove without a shadow of a doubt that LED is ready for primetime in all sports venues.
Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium, located on Dukes East Campus was built in 1996 and renovated in 2011, will host the 2014 ACC Field Hockey Championships in November.
Ephesus Lighting will provide its new Stadium Series lights, powered by the industrys highest-quality LEDs from Durham, N.C.-based Cree, Inc., to replace the 1500 watt metal halide fixtures currently installed. The new system will also utilize Ephesus integrated wireless controls to operate the lighting and maintain constant light output for 25 years. Despite reducing the number of fixtures by more than one-third, the Ephesus lighting solution will dramatically increase light to 75 foot candles and yield a projected energy savings of more than 70%. The Ephesus LED lights have undergone comprehensive luminaire testing at Crees testing and certification facility.
Ephesus manufactures the brightest LED on the market and is the only arena-designed lighting solution that is certified under Design Light Consortiums (DLC) quality, performance and energy efficiency requirements. The DLC certification enables facilities to receive energy incentives from utility providers.
Since lighting the first sports arena with LED in North America in 2012, Ephesus Lighting has created LED lighting solutions for more than 20 sports and entertainment venues all across North America.

PRESIDIO - A huge boost for tourism in West Texas are the starry skies in the Big Bend region. The City of Presidio is making moves to preserve their beauty.
The City of Presidio passed their Outdoor Lighting Ordinance with full support by the council. That makes them the final city in the Big Bend region to pass an ordinance dedicated to preserving their night skies.
When some wish to stargaze, they might have to drive to the country. For those in the Big Bend region, they can simply walk out the front door.
The City of Presidio passed an outdoor lighting ordinance to make that a possibility. For the past 25 years, the McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis has urged the City of Presidio to act on passing an outdoor lighting ordinance. Mayor John Ferguson thought, why not right now?
"McDonald Observatory has a very important mission. The dark skies also are part of tourism in the Big Bend, so we want to make sure we're doing our part," John Ferguson, Mayor of the City of Presidio, said.
The observatory's Dark Skies Initiative promotes the awareness of "light pollution", which they define as, "Any adverse effect of artificial light, including sky glow, glare, light trespass, decreased visibility at night, energy waste, and more."
"As we're able to make these changes, not only is it going to darken our night skies, but it's also going to be a significant reduction in energy consumption," Ferguson said.
Even neighboring Ojinaga jumped on board the "go green" wagon by changing over to LED lights.
Some adjustments to outdoor lighting will be made.
