Cape Coral Fire Station 2 reopens - February 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral Fire Station 2 has reopened after cleaning and remodeling, following the discovery of mold.

The discovery of mold in the fire station, located at 701 Nicholas Parkway East, prompted City officials to relocate the crews from Engine 2 and Rescue 2 over to the Citys Emergency Operations Center for several weeks. The relocation was only two blocks away from the fire station and there was never any adverse effect on response times.

The fire station had a complete mold remediation completed and drywall and ceiling tiles in the living room and kitchen area were replaced. In addition, kitchen cabinets and the ductwork for the heating and air conditioning were replaced. The bathrooms were remodeled and retiled and new paint was added throughout the station.

Two separate mold inspections were completed to verify all potential issues were addressed. This cooperative effort between city departments and private agencies assured the quickest mitigation and a rapid return of the firefighters into the fire station.

There was never any disruption in service provision, said Interim Fire Chief Donald Cochran. We were able to resolve the issue and still maintain the highest level of readiness and response for the community.

Consultants report details problems with old courthouse - February 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The historic Flagler County Courthouse, front, needs extensive works before it can be occupied but the annex is in pretty good shape, a consultant told Bunnell city officials.

BUNNELL Before the county seat can relax in the old Flagler County Courthouse, the building needs extensive cleaning and remediation.

That was the conclusion of consultant Rich Van Dort in a report delivered to city officials during a workshop last week.

You have to get the building under control for moisture, that is your biggest issue there, Van Dort told commissioners, referring to the historic courthouse facility. The annex building adjacent to the older structure is in better shape, he said, but it still needs mold remediation.

Van Dort said the historic courthouse building has a major problem with humidity because the air handler system was haphazardly put together.

Youve got a multitude of air handlers just in ceilings of rooms, he said.

The city concluded an interlocal agreement with Flagler County to take over the historic courthouse last year. As part of the agreement, city officials agreed not to make any exterior changes to the structure but theyre free to rework the interior of the facility.

Van Dorts report was the citys first step in assessing the extent of work that needs to be done to make the building safe for use. The city paid $11,900 for the report and an initial assessment done earlier.

Van Dort said for the historic courthouse to be made usable, the entire building has to be cleared of mold and carpeting and other areas that contain mold should be removed.

Basically, youve got to strip that building down to its bare bones, he told commissioners. Theres a lot of wood paneling that has to be removed.

Mold Removal Cost What You Can Expect To Pay – The … - January 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

NEW! Do you have a question about mold? Are you in the middle of a mold battle and needing some help or advice? Ask your question today.

When it comes to having mold removed from your home, one of the things youll need to consider is the remediation cost. Of course, the safety and health of your family (there are 7 good ways to know if a mold is dangerous) is more important than the price youll have to pay to remove the mold, but its still a good idea to be aware of how much something might cost you. If the area is a small one (weve got 5 tips for fighting a small infestation), you can remove the mold yourself with just a few dollars worth of cleaning supplies. If youre concerned about breathing the spores, you can get a respirator, and youll still only have spent around $120 to $150.

When The Job Is Too Big

For large areas, though, youll need specialists. The remediation cost will be much different if you have someone do it for you, but big areas cant be handled very easily be a homeowner, so it may be worth posting a few jobs on Gumtree (in the UK) or Craiglist (in the US) for this and see what responses you get. One of the things a mold remediation specialist can do is clean areas like the crawlspace under your home and the ductwork in the walls and attic. Mold spores that get into your heating and cooling system can just get recirculated through your home, continuing to make you sick even if youve cleaned up the area where you originally found the mold.

Alright, so what can it cost?

The remediation cost of a crawlspace can really vary. It could average as little as $500 or as much as $4,000. If the attic and wall ducts are involved, the cost for those generally ranges from $2,000 to $6,000. If your home has been flooded and the mold is all throughout it, there is much more that has to be done. This could drive your remediation cost up to $10,000 to $30,000 and it could even go higher, depending on the size of your home.

    Remember Insurance Considerations

When youre considering insurance, make sure you get something that will cover at least part of the remediation cost if you live in a flood zone (weve got some tips on handling water damage claims). Most consumers dont have that kind of money to spend out of pocket, and you probably dont, either. Even though youll have an idea of how much something should cost, be sure to shop around. The first company you find might not be the best one for your needs. The price may be different, and you also have to pay attention to the credentials.

    Look For Experienced Remediators

You want people whove been removing mold (especially black mold) for a while, not new people who arent sure about the job. Youll also want to see if there is some kind of guarantee offered and there should be. You dont want to find out that the people didnt do their jobs properly and the mold has come back, only to be told that there is nothing that can be done until you pay more money.

Florida Mold Inspection Firm AGC Environmental Gives Public Air Quality Maintenance Advise as Mold in Main Street … - January 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 31, 2014

A mold problem was plaguing Virginia's Main Street Library. And in response to it, AGC Environmental, a Florida mold inspection company, gave out an advise how to maintain a safe indoor air quality.

According to a report from dailypress.com, which was published on January 30, 2014, the problem was discovered in November and the management is now working on getting it fixed. It detailed that it particularly affected the non-fiction and reference books of the library located at the 2nd floor of the building.

Newport News Library Director Izabela Cieszynski said in the report that they are not sure about the source of the mold but it could be the automatic doors, which allowed the entry of high humidity. Despite the closure of the contaminated area though, she said that the public could still checkout specific books.

Below is an excerpt from the said report.

"Moisture is the enemy of librarians in humid climes and Newport News is no exception."

"The latest victims are non-fiction and reference collections housed on the second floor of the Main Street Library, where mold was found growing on the books."

"Volunteers are helping clean the books of mold, and "we're in the process of getting a vendor to come in and clean that collection," said Newport News Library Director Izabela Cieszynski."

AGC Environmental said that mold greatly affects a place's indoor air quality. Wherever it grows, it stated that its spores could go airborne and threaten the health of the people.

Because of that, the company stressed that mold remediation is essential in keeping a safe indoor environment. Nonetheless, before it is implemented, it said that the fungus' presence must first be confirmed. And to do that, it asserted that an air test and mold inspection are needed.
