Why London, Ontarios Pervasive Mold Problem Isnt a Big Deal - August 25, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

London, Ontario is one of the best places in the country. If theres any one place Id recommend people to move to, it would definitely be London. The city boasts an amazing community. In addition to this, its infrastructure rivals that of the most well-developed cities in the world. London might not be very popular among tourists, but is certainly considered one of the best cities in the world by most of the people who visit it.

Of course, despite the fact that London is such a great place, it also faces some problems like any other city in the world. One of Londons most pervasive problems happens to be mold growth. Due to the climate in the area, mold can easily grow in many homes in the city. Thankfully, though, despite mold growth being a big problem in the city, it is actually very easy to deal with. Thanks to the fact that there are so many mold contractors both within and without the area, mold growth is never a big problem for those who live in the city.

Despite mold growth being a common problem in the city, fatal allergic and asthma attacks that result from them are not that common. This is because virtually every member of the citys community knows that they should call a mold removal contractor the minute they suspect the mold growth in their home to be significant. Mold removal contractors are typically quick to respond to requests from Londons citizens this is because mold contractors consider London a hotspot when it comes to mold growth (London is such a hotspot for mold that there are even times when GTA mold contractors have to go out of their way just to service the homes of Londons residents).

Also, even though mold growth is a very common problem faced by Londons community, their daily routine is never disturbed when they get professional help. This is because mold remediation techniques have evolved in such a way that they are now non-disruptive. Gone are the days when mold removal contractors would immediately tear down walls the minute they suspect mold growth in a home to be significant. Now, they exhaust minimally invasive mold testing and removal methods first before they have to do that.

Due to the fact that the level of humidity in my home is always high, I have to call a mold removal company often to deal with mold growth. Its become routine already. Still, it doesnt really get to me. The mold removal company that services my home uses the most efficient and non-disruptive mold testing and remediation methods. Also, they dont really take a lot of time doing their job thanks to the fact that they use the latest mold removal technologies, Michael Lanegan, a homeowner in London, told us.

Dont let Londons pervasive mold problem deter you from moving to the area. Its really just a minor problem you can deal with easily. Hiring the help of a mold remediation company isnt going to cost you a lot, so its not really a major drawback. The city of London has a lot to offer when it comes to education, culture, science, etc. Its definitely a city you would do well to consider moving to.

Lindenhurst Homeowners Want Something Done About Vacant Moldy House - August 25, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    TRI-STATE NEWS HEADLINES

From our newsroom to your inbox weekday mornings at 9AM.

LINDENHURST, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) Homeowners in oneLong Island town have new concerns about a home on their block that is apparently filled with mold.

As CBS 2s Jennifer McLogan reported, school starts next week in Lindenhurst and parents dont want their children walking to Harding Elementary School past the so-called Mold House on Granada Parkway.

Residents say active wasp nests inhabit the door frame, cats and mice can be heard scurrying within and spores can be seen clinging to windows and siding.

My next step is to have an X-ray of my lungs, because I dont know if its doing anything permanent, said homeowner Keith Daniels. And weve got a school across the street thats starting up, we have hundreds of kids walking every day by here.

Daniels saidhe has had a lingering cough and painful chest. He also said his street was ravaged by Superstorm Sandy.

The tidal surge was up at least 8 feet. (Including next door?) Yes,Daniels said.

Daniels neighbors never returned after Sandy and the home went into foreclosure,McLogan reported.

Now, 22 months later, amid sodden sheetrock, wrecked floors and floating carpets, mold spores the size of basketballs can be spotted lurking within the stench overpowering.

St. Charles School District 303 to pay $660K settlement in mold case - August 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

ST. CHARLES The St. Charles School District 303 Board this month approved a six-figure settlement in a lawsuit tied to the 2001 mold discovery at St. Charles East High School.

School board members on Aug. 11 voted, 7-0, in favor of paying the Illinois School District Agency $660,000, plus court fees and interest. The members made a motion on the settlement issue after an executive session lasting less than 45 minutes.

The $660,000 settlement is in accordance with a July 31 ruling in Cook County Circuit Court on a lawsuit filed against the district by the agency, according to the boards motion on the payment. The Illinois School District Agency was one of the districts insurance carriers at the time mold was found at St. Charles East, District Superintendent Don Schlomann said.

The ruling was in favor of the agency, which sought to obtain the roughly $660,000 the district collected from its other previous insurance carriers. The court fees and interest that were part of the ruling likely will amount to about an additional $3,000, Schlomann said.

The Illinois School District Agency argued that it helped pay for costs associated with the mold remediation and was due the $660,000 instead of the district. The district contended that there had been additional costs in connection to the remediation that the agency did not cover, and therefore the district should not have to give the money to the agency, Schlomann said.

The agency also sought payment for additional legal costs associated with its lawsuit, but that was denied in the ruling.

Indications are that [the agency] might appeal based on the legal costs, Schlomann said. If thats the case ... more than likely we would cross-appeal.

The agency has 30 days from the July 31 ruling to file an appeal. The settlement will be paid out of the districts tort fund, which is directly set up to help pay for its legal expenses, Schlomann said.

It wont affect our expenditures for this years district budget, Schlomann said of the settlement.

After testing in 2001 showed St. East had a mold problem, the district closed the building for 18 months and spent more than $29 million to remove the mold. Some of the personal injury lawsuits in connection to the mold eventually were condensed into one suit, which included a settlement of less than $100,000 to six defendants, Schlomann told the Kane County Chronicle in 2007.
