MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / June 2, 2014) - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has suspended a recruitment agency for allegedly issuing two sets of different working visas to a Filipina maid bound for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said he ordered the preventive suspension of Chanceteam International Services, Inc. after stopping the woman - who was carrying visas for the position of sales staff and servant - from leaving the country.

He said this was discovered after the woman presented the two different visas at the pre-departure verification desk at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The woman admitted during an investigation that she was handed two visas by the recruitment agency. She told investigators that her agent directed her to present the visa bearing the sales staff at the airport and the servant visa to her employer in Dubai.

She said her agency instructed her to tell the POEA officers at the airport that the servant visa was obtained on her behalf by her cousin in Dubai, but she mistakenly presented all two visas to inspectors.

Cacdac said the recruitment agency committed serious violations. There was no immediate statement from Chanceteam International Services.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Milk deliveries resumed at Henrico schools Monday morning, after Henrico County school officials announced Sunday night that a new source would provide milk to some schools.

Henrico School Nutrition Services says they've made arrangements with a new provider. Schools that have the highest demand for milk services during breakfast and lunch will be getting milk.

They hope to have milk delivered to all 72 schools and program centers by the end of the week.

This all started this past Wednesday after students started feeling sick at school. It was later confirmed the cartons of Marva Maid milk had spoiled before the expiration date.

It was on Wednesday afternoon that we had four kids at an elementary school who complained of illnesses, had nausea-like symptoms, said Andy Jenks, HCPS director of communications and public relations. It became apparent shortly after that that there was a funny smell and taste to the milk.

After the four initial complaints, 10 more were made to the Henrico County Health Department. The agency began investigating immediately.

I know that we havent identified any storage issues at the Henrico County Public Schools said Health Director Susan Fischer Davis.

Marva Maid Dairys internal investigation, however, did turn up something. The company tested the milk from that date of production in its lab and found it had spoiled. A spokesperson for the company also said a valve issue at a Norfolk processing plant had taken place the day the milk in question was put into cartons, and that this could increase bacteria growth in the product. Marva Maid Dairy didnt feel it was a big enough issue to recall the milk.

In a written statement, Marva Maid Dary said: A number of factors can contribute to milk spoiling before its expiration date. The most common cause is lack of proper refrigeration, which puts added stress on milk and makes it more perishable.

the 23-year-old fahima alagasi palacasi the overseas filipino worker was a victim of maltreatment. her cousin in riyadh normiah alagasi told arab news on friday that fahima's injuries are healing now and she is much better after visiting bahay kalinga.

her parents also traveled from southern philippines to manila to keep track of the case.

according to the dfa spokesman fahima was accompanied by philippine embassy representatives on may 20 to a police station where she filed her complaint.

'the police have subsequently issued an endorsement to a hospital in riyadh to conduct a medical examination" said dfa spokesman charles jose.

he said the hospital will issue a medical report for use by the police in its investigation adding that the case was also brought to the attention of saudi ministry of foreign affairs by the philippine government.

'the philippine government will give her whatever assistance she may require" jose said.

embry said the same agency also has a record of providing fake birth certificates to under-aged workers and was suspended following its deployment of under-aged workers to qatar last year. however it was allowed to retain its license which expired on may 18 this year.

A pilot project in Singapore to recruit maids from Cambodia is struggling to take off as workers are turned off by high recruitment fees, and the fear of not being able to adapt to life here.

Under a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) pilot scheme that began last August, Cambodian maids are, for the first time, allowed to work in Singapore.

The ministry had set a target of 400 maids to arrive by February but only about 200 are in Singapore now, based on figures from the Cambodian Embassy.

This has prompted MOM to push the deadline to August for Cambodian and Singapore agents to bring in all 400 maids.

But even with the extension, agents here are worried that their Cambodian counterparts will not be able to recruit enough workers.

Singapore maid agents blame the high placement fees of S$2,400 (US$1,916) that the women pay to Cambodian agents to get jobs in Singapore.

Homejoy just announced its first acquisition New York-based Uber for maids startup Get Maid.

Both Get Maid and Homejoy announced their cleaning services towards the end of 2012. They have a slightly different emphasis Get Maid is more focused on immediate service, promising users that the maids will arrive within two hours of their order, while Homejoy customers usually schedule their cleanings days or weeks ahead of time. Homejoy is also available in more than 30 markets in the United States and Canada (Update: And the United Kingdom), while GetMaid is just available in New York.

GetMaid co-founders Steven Gutentag and Demetri Karagas will be joining Homejoy and working out of its recently opened New York office. (Their third co-founder, CTO Justin Fargione, will not be joining.)

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Since Homejoy raised $38 million in Series A and B funding last year, the company seems positioned to make more acquisitions like this, but a spokesperson told me there are no plans for such deals, with future acquisitions evaluated on a case by case basis.

Homejoy says Get Maid customers will now have the option to make their bookings from Homejoy. Ive asked the company for more details about how the deal will affect the existing Get Maid service and will update if I hear back.

Stephanie Nesseth is the first to admit that her house doesnt always get cleaned. But she has a good excuse.

As the owner of Absolutely Clean in Cedar Rapids, Nesseth is making sure that the homes of all her clients are absolutely clean.

We are a maid service that cleans everything from top to bottom, left to right, Nesseth said. Weve even done laundry before. Our services are really customizable.

Nesseth spent many years as a stay-at-home mom and preschool teacher before starting Absolutely Clean 14 years ago. I didnt start this thinking I would become a business owner, she said.

Back in 2001, Nesseth was looking for full-time flexible work, as her family including her son who battled childhood cancer was her first priority.

After gaining some clients, Nesseth quickly realized there were other moms out there who needed flexible work and could assist in her expanding business. Hiring those who needed flexibility was my business model. It keeps loyalty high and employees happy.

Absolutely Clean has about 18 full-time employees. Nesseth said her business runs optimally with about 25 employees. They work from 8:45 a.m. until about 4:30 p.m. sometimes until 6 p.m. to clean client homes.

Some clients we dont even see. Others we will spend 45 minutes in a consultation interview before we clean their house for the first time, explained Nesseth. Either way is OK with us, because its their home we are cleaning.

Absolutely Clean also operates a commercial division with part-time staff who work evening hours. Nesseth said she especially enjoys helping her employees grow. We are more than just maids.
