HOUSTON, Texas How far hasCarlos Carrasco come this season?

Carrasco was so good Wednesday night at Minute Maid Park that it took the best hitter in baseball to deny him a no-hitter. Carrasco coped nicely, settling for the first two-hit shutout of his career in the Indians 2-0 victory over the Astros.

Houston's two hits belonged to Jose Altuve, who leads the big leagues with 213 hits. The two hits never left the infield and if played differently Carrasco might be the owner of a no-hitter today.

Still, the night was not about two coulda, shoulda, woulda plays. The night was about Carrasco and the continued rebirth of his career.

He is 5-1 with a 1.17 ERA in eight starts since rejoining the rotation on Aug. 10. The eight starts include 59 strikeouts, seven walks and seven earned runs in 54 innings.

Wednesday night Carrasco set a career high with 12 strikeouts. It took him only 98 pitches as he threw 76 percent of them (74-for-98) for strikes.

"Everything I'm doing now is about the three months I spent in the bullpen," said Carrasco.

Which explains why about 15 minutes before game time, Carrasco was in the clubhouse with only half his uniform on. The bullpen taught him to relax.

After being sent to the pen after four poor April starts, Carrasco helped pack the backpack full of goodies for the rest of the relievers. He wasn't a rookie, but he was a rookie reliever and that's what they do.

He learned that the often grim routine of being a starter, one day of action followed by four or five days of grinding through workouts and worry was not the only way to pitch and succeed.

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) Since she was a young girl, Danielle McCray knew she wanted to be a service-providing business owner. She had no clue exactly what type of service she would provide.

Now, at age 33, she is the owner of the Cleaning Bouquet, a cleaning company that she started two years ago to serve the Pee Dee area.

After serving eight years in the U.S. Navy as an intelligence specialist, McCray moved on to work in human services with the postal service.

"When I was at the postal service, I was sitting behind a cubicle all day," McCray said. "I knew that I didn't want to retire sitting behind that desk. Basically, I made a conscious decision to step out on faith."

McCray moved back to Florence, her hometown, from Greensboro, North Carolina.

"I moved back here because I knew I would have a little more support from my family," McCray said. "And I started the cleaning service, and it's been going really well."

If someone would have asked her five years ago about starting a cleaning business, McCray said she would have responded, "You are crazy. I'm not starting a cleaning company."

"But I'm glad I did, because I get to meet some really great people," McCray said.

The Cleaning Bouquet did not start out as such, however. Before there was The Cleaning Bouquet, there was ProAlliance Commercial Cleaning. McCray owned that company as well, and it focused primarily on office cleaning. Several of the ProAlliance clients wanted residential cleaning as well.

"I guess the stars were not aligned for me to do (commercial cleaning), so I switched it," she said, "and I'm glad I did."

Trainer Peter Moody holds the group1 trumps on Saturday with Bring Me The Maid at Rosehill Gardens and Dissident in Flemington's Makybe Diva Stakes.

Perhaps Bring Me The Maid will find stablemate Better Land the main danger in the $1million Golden Rose but Moody has a preference for the filly. He figures that in six months Better Land will be superior, but is not as seasoned at this stage as Bring Me The Maid and has applied blinkers to assist the colt.

Fillies have not figured prominently in the Golden Rose but the trainer puts this down to the best of them preferring other spring events.

However, some bookmakers, including Luxbet, will gamble against Bring Me The Maid.

"Keen to take on the favourite as history shows only one filly, Forensics, a Slipper winner, has been successful and the race that year was held in the autumn due to equine influenza," Luxbet's Tristan De Luca said.

Track conditions will play a role; a slow six is predicted, better than Randwick last Saturday but wet form promises to dominate, which should not inconvenience the Moody pair.

By the 1400-metre Rose, race seven, the pattern will suit Hallowed Crown, a real mudlark. However, Hallowed Crown eased on Betfair trading on Friday from $5.50 to $7, as did Bring Me The Maid ($3.30 to $4.60).

The most significant mover on the betting exchange was Sarajevo, from $23 to $13. When beaten at Rosehill Gardens last start, in the betting ring Sarajevo was about as unpopular as you can get.

Advertisements likening maids to goods are no longer seen at Katong Shopping Centre and Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, two months after the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) warned against insensitive ads.

Such demeaning banners and signs have been removed, while notices showing "maid fees" have been covered up at the two centres, which house about a dozen maid agencies each.

Also absent were rows of maids usually seen seated outside the agencies, a practice which MOM had deemed "unacceptable".

Bernard Ryan, operations director of Maids & Manpower Agency, used to have his agency fees and the biodata of maids displayed on his shop window but has since removed them.

Maid agents told The Straits Times MOM officers had visited a few times over the last month to ensure they follow the guidelines.

Students perform at Music and Vocal showcase over the summer

A Music and Vocal Student Showcase was held at Dosey Doe Music Caf over the summer by the Theresa Yow Vocal Studio. The evening showcase included public and homeschool students from all over Montgomery County.

Aaron & Ash, an up and coming pop/rap duo with a fresh new sound; Chelsea Rollins, a pop/soul singer with vocals that will blow you away; Sierra Bernal, a singer/songwriter known as "the little girl with the big 'bluesy' voice". Rachael Sutton, a singer/songwriter who uses her captivating musical gifts all for God's glory; Julianna Banks, Morgan Wilson, and Emily Cole, all singer/songwriters that are still in high school but still manage to find time to write and perform almost every weekend, often times together; Emily Hammer, a singer that enjoys singing all genre's of music, including musical theater; Jordan Burmeister, who's passion is singing and hopes to record her first single soon.

The student showcases offer opportunities to perform in front of a live audience and to perform for industry professionals that can help them get to the next step in there career.

In light of the recent suicide of actor, comedian, and filmmaker Robin Williams, Lone Star College-Montgomerys Human Services Student Organization and the Psych Club feel theres an urge for more awareness about depression and mood disorders. In conjunction with the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance, they will host a free informational lecture on understanding depressive and bipolar related disorders on from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 16, at the LSC-Montgomery campus (building G, room 102).

Glen Killian, professor and program director of human services at LSC-Montgomery, feels it is a timely topic with there still being so much talk and interest in the media surrounding Williams death.

I think mental illness and mental health issues are very common, but also very misunderstood, Killian said. Theres a lot of negative beliefs and stigma toward people with mental health problems, despite the fact that theyre so common.

Its likely that a large number of people suffering from depression do so in silence because it carries so much social negativity. In order to decrease the number of suicides related to mental health, education of mental health disorders is imperative.

Megan Gust, program manager with the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, will speak on the signs and symptoms of depression. Gust will be on hand to answer any questions about mental health struggles and their connection to suicide.

Support groups are just as vital to those suffering from depression and bipolar disorders, as seeking the right treatment. DBSA is a national organization formed to provide free and confidential support groups for individuals living with, or have family and friends affected by, depression and bipolar disorders, and works to educate the public about depression and bipolar disorders.
