KUCHING: Naim Holdings Bhd, one of Malaysias leading developers, has engaged top French interior designer Bruno Panis to provide the wow factor to its new sales gallery and show units situated at Rock Commercial Centre, Jalan Green, Kuching.

Declared open on February 2, the sales gallery created hype among the Kuching community with its tasteful design and cozy ambiance. The sales gallery also houses two Sapphire On The Park condo show units, the first product under the Naim Signature Collection, Naims newly-launched upmarket brand.

No stranger to interior design and armed with over 20 years of experience, Panis who has been in Malaysia for the last four years, has worked extensively with internationally renowned brand names such as LOreal, D & G, Helena and Nivea.

Besides having an interior design background, Panis also possesses a Master degree in business and marketing specialising in product-design.

Panis told The Borneo Post that the interior design concept for Naim Kuchings new sales gallery was based on three main factors the companys philosophies, environmental conservation and profiles of its customers.

As one of Malaysias leading developers, Naim has always been a trend-setter. The sales gallery showcases the seamless fusion of space and function, exuding style in simplicity.

We also chose the right materials and colours to enhance the aura of coziness and comfort. The sales gallery echoes Naims philosophy of differentiating itself from the rest, being in a class of its own, explained Panis.

The main feature of the gallery was the striking Vertical Garden, a backdrop comprising local plants and greenery, a manifestation of Naims focus on environmental conservation.

As a responsible corporate citizen and through the Vertical Garden, Naim is saying that environmental conservation is beautiful, and that its properties are designed with this in mind. The sales gallery is also equipped with LED lights to facilitate energy saving, a further tribute to the environment, disclosed Panis.

Susan Huckvale Arann seldom swings a golf club, but holds the unique distinction of leaving her mark on famous golf courses.

Ms. Arann of Westerleigh is an award-winning interior designer with more than 30 years of experience and a long list of accomplishments in dressing up many interiors. In addition to adding her magic to Richmond County Country Clubs main clubhouse, as well as the newer golf house on the Todt Hill course, she has left her mark at the South Shore Country Club when it was operated by the Toto family.

But now, after a year, the principal of American & International Designers Inc. unveils her restoration and renovation of the 111-year-old Van Cortlandt Golf Course in the Bronx. She has applied her smooth touch to the structures main clubroom, locker rooms and relocated pro shop.

I was delighted to receive this -- my all-time favorite -- assignment. Its just a beautiful place with tremendous history, said Ms. Arann. It has been a long, but delightful challenge to restore and retouch as much as possible and still maintain that original feeling.

With a broad smile, the Staten Island designer added, I am extremely honored to have done this at Van Cortlandt, which is the oldest public golf course in the United States and add that to my work at Richmond County Country Club, which is the oldest and only private golf course in the City of New York.

Van Cortlandt opened in 1895 on a 1,141-acre plot of parkland as a nine-hole golf course consuming 55-acres. The course was expanded to a 120-acre 18-hole course in 1899. The two-story clubhouse was built in 1902 featuring elements such as a grand staircase leading from the main clubroom to the second-floor locker rooms.

The existing woodwork was removed for meticulous rehabilitation and some was reused to create display cases in the new pro shop and to front the snack bar on the ground floor. A new snack bar was installed in the main clubroom along with an imposing natural stone fireplace, wood-lined tray ceiling french doors, refaced columns and extra windows. Most of the woodwork has been finished with a rich dark stain, together with the comfortable and carefully orchestrated gathering areas, makes the space warm and inviting.

We relied on old photos to maintain the feeling of the historic old structure that has been the site of filming Oliver Stones 1987 movie Wall Street and more recently filming of the HBO series of Boardwalk Empire, said Ms. Arann.

The Bronx layout has played host to countless N.Y. golfers as well as distinguished visitors including Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Joe Louis and even the Three Stooges.

Van Cortlandt is a city-owned course and is leased to an operating company known as Van Cortlandt Golf LOC.

Despite the fact that NYC-based interior designer Joe Nahem has a ridiculously enviable contemporary art collection at his Amagansett, N.Y. beach housethere's a Warhol print of Jackie Kennedy and a Richard Prince collage, to name a couplethe home somehow manages to dodge that pristine, white-walled museum quality, in favor of a breezy vibe that feels both relaxed and welcoming. "A lot of people who work with art collections are so afraid of them that they make everything beige or white," explains Nahem to Domaine. "I didn't do that. I didn't want it to intimidate me, so I found a fine balance."

The five-bedroom, 4,200-square-foot spreadwhich the designer rented out for $490K in the summer of 2012sits on a luxe acre of oceanfront property and relies on natural materials like mahogany windows, reclaimed wood floors, barn-wood doors, and knotted pine paneling to complement the surrounding beach landscape. The decor is a similarly cool, eclectic mix of neutral-colored midcentury and vintage furniture which Nahem modestly describes as just "a bunch of stuff that looks good together."

Despite this laid-back attitude, the home is not without its swanky amenities. According to Curbed Hamptons, each of the en-suite bedrooms comes outfitted with its own mini-refrigerator, like the world's most decadent dorm rooms. Outside there's also a steam room, a 50-foot swimming pool, and a cabana with a fireplace and changing rooms. Domaine has more photos, right this way.
