ORLANDO, Fla.Theatergoers sang Shen Yuns praises at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, Jan. 1517. Donna Ganey, a retired interior decorator, adored the colors: Oh, the colors! I was going crazy!

I especially liked the ones where they looked like pansies. The fairieswhere they had the purple pansies. Oh, it was gorgeous, just gorgeous, she said.

Oh, I thought it was wonderful. The colors, the outfitsI dont know if they were silk, but the intensity of the colors was fascinating, she said.

And I have never seen a screen where the people levitated out like that. That was so unique and clever. She wondered if that had been done before. It was unbelievable! It was like a new form of art, Ms. Ganey said.

Many theatergoers are awestruck by Shen Yuns unique animated backdrops, which extend the stage and also complement and synchronize with every aspect of the performance. Dancers appear to float seamlessly between the stage and the digital backdrops, which display spectacular scenes of Chinas land and history.

I liked the history aspect of it. It was 5,000 years old. I loved that, she said of the traditional Chinese culture that Shen Yun embodies.

Mrs. Kay Lee, a retired accountant, accompanied Ms. Ganey to the performance. It was colorful, it was energetic, it was lively, and it made you feel good. Thats really what I liked, she said.

Judy Bilkey, a retired nurse, was moved to tears by the performance. It was phenomenal. The words that were being sung , she said, weeping.

The music really tore her up, said Jack Bilkey, who accompanied her.

The lyrics are all original compositions. Brimming with philosophical reflection about human life and deep layers of meaning, they traverse the boundaries of nation, race, and culture. , Shen Yuns website states. The lyrics are sung in Chinese, in bel canto style, with the English translation displayed on the backdrop.

Interior decorator Veronika Emrich came to enjoy Shen Yun Performing Arts for the fifth time on Jan. 11, 2013. Now that her grandchildren were old enough, she decided to bring the entire family. (Courtesy of NTD Television)

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, CanadaIt was the fifth time that interior decorator Veronika Emrich and her husband came to enjoy Shen Yun Performing Arts, and this time they decided to bring their children and grandchildren as well.

Now that their grandchildren were older, Mrs. Emrich thought they could finally appreciate the show. Her predictions proved right. They were quiet as little mice. They enjoyed it a lot. They were very good, she said.

Ms. Emrich and her family attended Friday nights performance at the Centre in the Square Theatre. The show was sold-out like most of Shen Yuns shows in Eastern Canada.

With a mission to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired civilization, the New York based group has won audiences hearts through its superior artistry and uplifting message.

Ms. Emrich could sense this divinity in the show. I think it gives you a feeling of grace and well-being when you watch it, she said.

She felt that she would now take a feeling of beauty into the new year. Thats what Im in the business ofcreating beauty in homes and so on, said Ms. Emrich. And definitely theres a feeling of beauty and peace.

Ms. Emrich is the owner of Inside or Out, a staging, decorating and remodelling company in Kitchener-Waterloo and the surrounding area. As a designer, she felt that she could appreciate the work that goes into the fine choreography and costumes.

The colour coordination of everything is beautiful, she added. Very beautiful.

Ms. Emrich noted there was a variety of colour combinations some were soft and fresh like spring, while others were very lively like the deep blues and oranges of the dancePhoenix Fairies. I thought they were very inspiring, she said.

How to Decorate Using Accessories
Today #39;s decorating tip, "How to Decorate Using Accessories" is brought to you by interior decorator, Leslie Sarmiento. The question, "Where should I place my accessories?" is asked by many people when looking to add those special touches in a room to cozy up their space. The most common mistake most people make is buying accessories before they know where they will go. But, buying accessories should never be an impulse buy. Before purchasing, first look around and identify where you have any "negative space." Next, ask yourself these 3 questions: "Where does it seem off balance? What spaces feel empty? and, What areas need a little more weight?" Then, measure, measure, measure! You should measure for your accessories before shopping so you know what to buy. For instance, if you buy a small vase and put it on a large shelf, it will look bare. And adding more items around the vase will simply create a cluttered area. Remember "scale" often means "less is more!" Using larger scale pieces to fill up the space will look more deliberate. When dealing with collections and collectibles, display them in a way that is dramatic and meaningful. Rather than scattering single pieces randomly, group them together to create one large statement. Also use stands and cases to help define them even more and give them real importance. Keep these basics in mind when decorating, and your accessories will fill your space beautifully and help you enjoy your room even more.
