Dina Manzo Reveals "Anxiety" About Dating, Getting Naked in New Real Housewives of New Jersey Video - May 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The bitch is back...and on the prowl! After three seasons away from The Real Housewives of New Jersey, former series star Dina Manzo is back with a vengeance in season sixand Us Weekly has an early look at what kind of drama awaits her over the next few months.

    PHOTOS: Former Real Housewives

As seen in this exclusive footage from the Bravo show, Manzo will try her hand at dating following her separation from her husbandin February 2013. The two were married for seven years, so the Project Ladybug founder, 41, has been out of the game for quite some time.

PHOTOS: Before they were Real Housewives

"When I pictured myself 40-something, this was not what I was expecting," she confesses. "The last time I had to get naked in front of a guy, I was 28 years old...There's definitely anxiety around that."

There's also some nervousness around her daughter Lexi's departure for college. (Lexi, 17, is Manzo's child from her first marriage.) "It's the end of an era as a mom," she says. "Now I just have to worry about my f---ed-up pets."

Manzo's RHONJ comeback follows the departure of her estranged sister, Caroline, who left the series after five seasons last October. Announcing her return in previews for upcoming episodes, the interior decorator says cheekily, "The bitch is back, and if you don't like it, you can kiss my ass."

The '70s are back in fashion in Penang - May 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    27 May 2014| last updated at 06:06PM

It was designed with a retro 1970s theme by the interior decorator and principal of The One Academy, Dr Eric Leong.

It caters to people who are looking for "gems" from the recent past and those who are curious about what was considered fashionable back then.

Managing director of Hunza Group, the owner of the mall, Khor Siang Gin said it was aimed at helping small-time entrepreneurs to set up businesses.

He said young entrepreneurs could use it as a platform to start their own businesses.

"We also want to promote Penang and let more international tourists know about Penang and the trends that were popular in the recent past," he said at the launch.

Khor said there would be a Retro Saturday event every week from 2pm to 10pm, with 30 traders selling collectibles, fashion accessories, handicraft and other rare items that would be of interest to collectors.

He said there would also be lots of activities for children.

"We intend to promote this spot as a one-stop centre for tourists looking for specific items found only here," he added.

Also present were state Tourism Development and Culture Committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang and Hunza Properties founder Datuk Khor Teng Tong.

Frances W. Riepe, interior decorator - May 23, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Frances W. Riepe, a former interior decorator who had been a trustee of Ladew Topiary Gardens, died May 16 of congestive heart failure at her home in the Brightwood retirement community in Lutherville. She was 91.

The daughter of Francis Asbury Warner Jr., founder of the Warner-Graham Co., and Elsie McGee Warner, a homemaker, the former Frances Warner was born in Baltimore and raised on Hollen Road in Cedarcroft.

She attended Bryn Mawr School and graduated in 1941 from the Knox School in Cooperstown, N.Y.

In 1946, she married George Mitchell Stump Riepe, who later became president of the Warner-Graham Co.

Mrs. Riepe earned a certificate in 1964 from the New York School of Interior Design and owned and operated an interior decorating firm from her Guilford home. She was still working in interior design well into the 1980s, family members said.

"Mom had a great sense of style and an eye for design in just about all things clothing, interiors, gardens and landscapes. She always looked New York-sharp," said her daughter, Kathryn Riepe "Kate" Chambers of the Woodbrook neighborhood of Baltimore County.

"She loved Paris and anything French. She was arranging cut daffodils and issuing orders about placement of furniture right up until a week before she died," said Ms. Chambers. "Having a hospital bed in her lovely bedroom really ticked her off."

"She was a stay-at-home mom, but she was fully engaged in her interests out of the home," said a son, Frank W. Riepe of Sudbury, Mass.

Mrs. Riepe founded the Woodland Garden Club, which is associated with the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland. She also had been chairwoman of the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage.

She had been a member of the Women's Committee at the Baltimore Museum of Art and had chaired their antique show.

Award-winning South End home brings $16.25M - May 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Seascape an oceanfront house that won its architect the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beachs 2011 Schuler Award has sold for $16.25 million, the price recorded with the deed.

Bryan Cressey and his wife, Christina, bought the South End house, which was built in 2010 at 2315 S. Ocean Blvd., according to documents recorded Wednesday by the Palm Beach County Clerks office. The British Colonial-style residence has five bedrooms and 21,148 square feet of living space, inside and out.

Bryan Cressey heads Cressey & Co., a private-equity firm with offices in Chicago and Nashville, Tenn., that specializes in health-care investments. He and his wife, known as Christy, live in Barrington Hills outside Chicago and own no other property in the Palm Beach County in their names, records show.

Seller Donna Ward is an interior decorator and art historian who oversaw the construction and furnishing of the two-story house. She has supervised the construction and renovation of a number of homes she has shared with her husband, international investment banker Rodney Ward. Their primary residence is in London.

The property was listed for sale in November at $22.5 million by broker Lawrence Moens of Lawrence A. Moens Associates. Neither he nor Ward could be reached for comment.

The house stands on a narrow lot measuring 1.8 acres, a bit north of the Par 3 Golf Course. The property was once the site of the Sea Lord Hotel.

The Cresseys were familiar with the house before they bought it. We used it for the winter, and when Donna Ward decided to sell it, we decided to buy, said Bryan Cressey, who spends some of the winter season riding in Wellington, where the couple stables horses.

The setting is enchanting, he added. We found the home just captivatingly beautiful.

    Wonderful for parties

Architect Daniel Kahan of Smith and Moore Architects designed the house in close collaboration with Donna Ward. Three years ago, he was presented with the Elizabeth L. and John H. Schuler Award from the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach for the design. The annual award recognizes excellence in new construction projects that reflect the towns architectural character, according to the foundation.

HAVEN'T BEEN to the San Francisco Decorator Showcase yet? There are at least three good reasons to go.

You can wander through House Beautiful magazine's Kitchen of the Year, experience the design work of eight Marin experts up close and tour 30 interior and exterior spaces containing plenty of inspirational ideas.

The Showcase House this year is a four-story brick mansion with six bedrooms spread out over 8,820 square feet, set on a third of an acre overlooking the Presidio and San Francisco Bay. It was built in 1908 for Alfred Sutro's family.

Here is a look at the work of the Marin participants.

"I always want people to have an aha moment, so as you come up the stairs from the Grand Entrance, I think you are surprised by this (rough-edged bronze alphabet collection) by Martin Bialas," says Ray of Five Senses Art Consultancy in San Rafael.

"The installation and concept is thoroughly contemporary and chic," she says. "It can be comfortable in a traditional home or contemporary home, or in a garden. It is extremely versatile."

Ask Mick: Stardom hard to walk away from - May 16, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

DEAR MICK: Can you think of any actor or movie professional who made millions of dollars early, and then just decided to quit the profession, retire and live on the money?

    Robert M. Lange, Albany

DEAR ROBERT: There are some examples that seem that way anecdotally, but then you look into them and you find out otherwise, that no one leaves the party without getting shoved out the door.

For some people, a gentle nudge is enough. In 1942, for example, MGM got rid of its three most popular leading ladies from the '30s. Two of them went ahead and retired, while one of them, Joan Crawford, clawed her way back to stardom at Warner Brothers. Some stars have had successful second careers. Ricardo Cortez became a stockbroker, and William Haines became an interior decorator, but both turned to their new callings only after their stars had faded.

Basically, some people are content to pull the plug when the best is over and others won't quit until a brick wall buries them, but nobody but nobody walks away from being a movie star, because it's not about the money. It's about being a movie star.

HI MICK: I don't understand the movie industry's obsession with Amy Adams. I don't find her very compelling. She seems to play Amy Adams in every role. Is there something I'm not seeing, or am I seeing something that others aren't?

    Ken Ogle, San Francisco

HI KEN: You're not seeing something others are seeing, and while you're not obligated to, you might want to try, just for your own pleasure. She's remarkable, either a great actress or someone in the process of becoming one. She is different in every role, but as with all actors, she has the same voice and face, and there are some elements that are either consistent or recurring.

In a review of "Sunshine Cleaning," I wrote that, "Adams gives us a portrait of raging want beneath a veneer of surface diffidence. In her every encounter ... you can see her eyes turn in on herself, measuring her own worth in terms of others' reactions, wondering if she's being powerful enough or if the other person has noticed that she is as frightened as she feels." That's a familiar Adams mode, but she can play off of that, as in "American Hustle," where she plays someone a lot more grasping and confident, even while roping in hints of her more usual self.

She's like the American Isabelle Carre, in that a part of her seems like a little girl who woke up one morning, suddenly 35 years old, and decided not to tell anybody, but to test out her newfound power.
