84 Watt Vapor Proof LED Light Fixture for Outdoor Applications Released by Larson Electronics - August 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Kemp, Texas (PRWEB) August 27, 2014

The GVP-48-3L-LED-G2 from Larson Electronics is similar to our popular explosion proof LED fixtures that provide an LED alternative to fluorescent fixtures. These LED fixtures produce more light output with longer lamp life and are vapor proof and impact and vibration resistant. The lamps in this vapor proof fixture are specially designed LED T8 series bulbs which produce 2,940 lumens each and have a correlated color temperature of 4,500K or 5,600K. These fixtures are designed for operators who wish to replace fluorescent fixtures with a unit that offers better light output, longer lamp life with reduced maintenance costs as well as lower operating costs. By eliminating the ballast that is normally associated with fluorescent fixtures, the weight of the fixture is significantly reduced and a slimmer profile is created. With solid state LED light tubes, this fixture draws 84 watts at 0.7 amps of power while offering durability and versatility that common fluorescent fixtures cannot match.

The integral aluminum heat sink tube backings provide cool operation and long LED life, while a simple latching system seals the lens cover to the housing and provides easy access for re-lamping. These units are designed to be surface mounted or hung from cable or chain and includes built in mounts. The GVP-48-3L-LED-G2 is multi-voltage and operates on any voltage from 110V to 277V AC. This fixture is also available in low voltage 12-24V DC configurations. This fixture is ideal for indoor/outdoor applications and suitable for use as general area lighting, shop lighting, work space lighting, garage and warehouse lighting, and anywhere a rugged and dependable fixture with high output and efficiency is needed.

The solid state design of the LED lamps provides this fixture with a longer operational life without high maintenance costs, said Rob Bresnahan with Larsonelectronics.com. This light comes with a multi-purpose mounting bracket that can be used for a direct surface mount or reversed and used for chain hanging the unit.

Destination: Cary Towne Center indoor playground - August 23, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Cary Towne Center will unveil its $1 million investment on Saturday - a new indoor playground featuring all manner of soft play toys for young kids to climb all over.

At 2,000-square-feet, the playground, across from Dave & Busters, Belk and Gymboree, is the largest mall playground for CBL & Associates Properties, the mall's owners and one of the largest mall property owners in the country. The popular playground at Triangle Town Center, which will reopen Sept. 6 after an upgrade, is 900-square-feet, by comparison.

Cary Towne's playground has a music, art, dance and literature theme. Eleven large, soft play pieces will be scattered across a colorful themed rug. It's sponsored by Raleigh-basedcelito.net, which will provide free wifi throughout the mall by the end of the year.

Kids will be able to climb inside a ballet shoe and slide down another one; crawl under a keyboard; and climb up a blob of paint, for instance. A circle of soft, cherry red benches serves as a border between the play area and the rest of the mall. The new play area, like those at other malls, is designed for babies to preschoolers.

Josh Harmon, the mall's general manager and a father of two, said the addition is part of an effort to makeover the aging mall in an area where new and different kinds of shopping options are popping up and to make it more family friendly. A carousel, kiddie train, indoor bungee jumping and coin-operated rides remain.

"We want to continue to improve the mall as a community center and make it a place for families to shop," he said.

Five retail spaces were torn down to make way for the playground and open up this corner of the mall. Skylights and other lighting were added to give it an open, airy feel. A handful of kiosks will be near the playground, including a Doc Popcorn franchise. Pretzel Twister, an existing kiosk, will undergo a remodel in the next month or so. And Harmon hopes to fill a remaining kiosk with a specialty food vendor, such as a smoothie maker.

Cary Towne Center will celebrate the playground's grand opening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. Activities include a Fit Kids Challenge, kinetic sand station; a message in a bottle activity with local artist Helen Seebold; free train rides; face painting; refreshments; special offers and door prizes.

The event is free. Play at the playground is always free.

Go Ask Mom features places to take kids every Friday. For more ideas, check our posts on parks and playgrounds and Triangle family destinations.

Lower Pricing and New Specs for LED Waves Amazon LED Light Strip - August 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Brooklyn, New York (PRWEB) August 20, 2014

Brooklyn-based lighting supplier and manufacturer LED Waves is pleased to introduce an upgraded version of the Amazon Waterproof Flexible LED Strip Light, their best-selling linear lighting solution for wet or dry applications.

The Amazon is especially popular with professional lighting designers because it transmits a more pleasant, higher end quality of light over mass-produced LED strips. LED Waves is now offering spools in 5 meter lengths with lead wire ends to better serve this market. Technical specifications including its ETL safety rating and its simple instructions for cutting, connecting and controlling remain the same.

The most significant change is the lower retail price of the Amazon. Previously retailing at approximately $12.20 per foot, the newer strip is now much more affordable at $5.48 per foot.

This price reduction was made possible by streamlining their online selection of LED light strips to only their best selling color temperature options: 2700K (warm white) and 4000K (neutral white). LED Waves has prepared large quantities of these strips, affording the company a bulk discount which is passed onto their customers. As is the case with all LED Waves products, other color options are available by special order.

Delivering over 100 lumens per foot at 4000K and >85 lumens per foot at 2700K, the Amazon is best suited to provide ambient lighting along bars, under cabinets, or around reception areas and nightclubs. For higher output, as needed for indirect lighting, LED Waves recommends the more powerful Rio Grande Waterproof LED Light Strip. (A similarly upgraded Rio Grande debuted last month, featuring the same quality construction and mechanical specifications as the Amazon, but offering 200% more light output.)

Custom cuts and pricing by quantity for LED light bars and strips or other LED Waves products are available through the Contact form at LEDWaves.com or by calling 1(800) 986-0169.

Safety First in LED Lighting Retrofit Kits - August 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Yorba Linda, Calif. (PRWEB) August 18, 2014

As fluorescent to LED conversion kits from several manufacturers hit the market, energy-efficient lighting manufacturer Precision-Paragon [P2] released a statement today reiterating its commitment to the importance of safe, standards-compliant lighting retrofit kits.

[P2] is the manufacturer of the TKD LED Troffer Conversion Kit, which retrofits fluorescent prismatic and parabolic troffers to low wattage, high lumen LED lighting. The TKD meets a wide range of safety and energy standards. For example, the kit is designed to UL1598, 1598C and 8750 standards and is listed on the DesignLights Consortium (DLC) list. All testing on the TKD was performed to LM79, LM80 and TM21 IESNA standards.

However, the manufacturer cautions that not every retrofit kit on the market adheres to these same standards, and even some that do might cut corners in other ways.

One of our employees was watching an instructional video put out by a competing manufacturer, explained Joe Martin, [P2] vice president and general manager. Our employee noticed that the video encouraged the violation of a nationally recognized standard in the installation of the retrofit kit.

The video in question demonstrated the installation of an LED retrofit kit in a manner, which bypassed the original fluorescent ballast, but left the disconnected ballast in place within the upgraded fixture. This demonstrates a disregard for both environmental regulations and safety standards. As explained on this page from the EPA, older fluorescent ballasts may contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). These ballasts can rupture, causing a health hazard. Even intact, non-leaking ballasts can release PCB into the air. Additionally, any PCB-containing ballasts are now far past their normal life expectancy, which would increase their risk of smoking, or even starting fires.

Even with newer, safer fluorescent ballasts, its a good idea to remove the ballast as part of the upgrade. Once the ballast is bypassed and no longer in use, its electronic waste and should be properly disposed of. This also affects the UL certification of the retrofitted fixture. Replacing electrical components in a fixture requires a new UL sticker certifying the replacement electronics. Leaving an old ballast in the fixture after the retrofit means that there are electronic components in the fixture that are no longer UL certified.

I dont know what the motivation was to release an instructional video that demonstrated this disregard for standard safety practices. Maybe it was a simple oversight, maybe it was a desire to make the installation procedure look quicker than it actually is, said Martin. What I do know is that as manufacturers, its our responsibility to lead the industry in encouraging proper safety practices when using our products.

[P2] has released a video of the TKDs rapid five-minute installation procedure, which includes the proper removal of the fluorescent ballast. The video is available at http://youtu.be/_zO6ebytP-k.

The TKD LED Troffer Conversion Kit is available to order in a variety of configurations to convert fluorescent troffer lighting to energy-efficient LED lighting. Interested lighting professionals and business owners can learn more by downloading the TKD specification sheet.
