Eufy Security Indoor Cam 2K Pan and TiltEufy's 2K Pan And Tilt brings 360-degree coverage and sharp video quality at an affordable price.
Anker Innovations smart home sub brand, Eufy, has made strides building up its portfolio. The EufyCam 2and Eufy Security Video Doorbell have proven to be top contenders in their respective areas, but now comes the task of taking security inside of the home with an indoor camera. The Eufy Security Indoor Cam 2K Pan and Tilt is an intriguing option for watching over your home and protecting your privacy.
As the name implies, Eufys Security Indoor Cam uses a rotating base that allows it to pan and tilt delivering the maximum degree of coverage inside your home. No matter where its positioned, it can be manipulated to cover just about any area. This implementation is rare among indoor cameras, so it has a distinct advantage over its fixed counterparts.
Typically, indoor cams are best situated in corners to maximize their coverage. With this feature, however, it can be placed anywhere and still cover all corners and thats despite the cameras moderate 125-degree field of view.
By comparison, Rings Indoor Cam has a wider 140-degree field of view. However, since the Eufy Security Indoor Cam has an advantage with its articulating camera, it could potentially cover a wider area. On top of that, it can also be mounted on walls and ceilings to obtain a better vantage point, for even more coverage.
The only complaint I have with the pan and tilt is that the camera cant freely rotate past a certain point. There seems to be a locking point, so it cant continue to pan past a 360-degree rotation. Instead, you have to rotate the camera back in the other direction. This can be a bit confusing while youre using the feature.
The Eufy Security Indoor Cam Pan and Tilt offers a few notable features that preserve your privacy in the home.
First and foremost, theres a microSD slot for local storage, in addition to the cloud storage thats available. Its peace of mind for those who want to ensure that the footage recorded by the camera remains private.
Its worth noting that cloud storage plans start at $3 per month through Eufy for 30 days of rolling video history, which is only good for a single camera. Meanwhile, the $10 monthly subscription will cover up to 10 cameras with the same 30 days of rolling video history.
Secondly, the camera can be turned off through the app, resulting in the camera tucking itself away thus exposing its microSD slot. It can effectively work as a privacy shutter, which is nice, because the camera lens is completely obstructed. However, I wish there was a button on the camera itself that could cover the camera and mute the mic. Theres also an LED light on the base of the camera that blinks red to indicate the live stream is being accessed.
Lastly, theres the option to set activity zones, so any motion or detection registered in the specified zones will alert the camera to take action. All of these features indicate that privacy is an area of interest for Eufy.
Theres plenty of detail to distinguish faces and pets.
However, a big omission is the lack of 2-factor authentication. I applaud all the efforts put forth by the Eufy Security Indoor Cam Pan and Tilt, but 2-factor authentication is an important privacy and security feature that Eufy needs to include.
Eufy pushes beyond most of the competition with its 2K video capture resolution. Theres plenty of detail to distinguish faces and pets, but the resolution dials down to 720p whenever the lighting conditions take a dip. Its strange that it does this, especially when night vision footage captures at 2K resolution. Despite this, the video performance of the Eufy Indoor Cam is better than average.
One of the strange features about the camera is its ability to yell at people or pets. Seriously.
Whenever it detects a face or pet, itll yell Hey, what are you doing there?! I was actually alarmed the first few times it yelled at me, because of the shrill tone of the recording. Luckily, the motion/pet detection sensitivity can be toned down, and theres an option to disable it entirely.
The integrated speaker is weak, so conducting conversations through the camera is challenging. And while the siren function can quickly startle people, its not loud enough to alert neighbors in most situations.
Lastly, I wish the camera was smart enough to know when Im home or not much like how Googles Nest Cams can automatically switch on/off depending on your phones GPS coordinates. Instead, its all manual for the Eufy Security Indoor Cam 2K Pan and Tilt, which means youll have to manually select its mode whenever you leave home and return.
Theres plenty to like about the Eufy Security Indoor Cam 2K Pan and Tilt, and even more when you factor in its $50 price. Combining that with its rich set of features, excellent video performance, and emphasis on privacy, its rivals in the space will have no choice but to admit that its a legitimate player.
Cameras are typically fixed, but with so many moving parts to the Eufy Indoor Cam, theres a cause for concern that it may break down. One of the downsides about being so cost-conscious is that its mostly made out of plastic, so I imagine itd take a hit if it falls hard onto the ground. If youre worried about internal components conking out, theres a 1-year limited warranty for defects.
For its price, not really. If youre looking for something cheaper, the Wyze Cam V2 is an outstanding option for $20. On the other hand, the Google Nest Cam IQ Indoor is another solid package with advanced tech such as integrated Google Assistant, HDR video, and a 4K sensor.
Yes. Eufy has a solid, all-around security camera that wont break the bank.

With summer around the corner, many homes and laboratories are turning their air conditioning units to full blast, hoping to stay cool in the hottest months of the year. However, overusing an HVAC system can have devastating consequences for the environment. This, paired with inefficiency in other energy uses, dramatically increases our environmental footprint. In this article we take a look at some of the inefficiencies that are harming the environment and ways in which they can be minimized.
According to the EIA, the average annual electricity consumption for a US residential utility customer was 10,972 kilowatt hours (kWh), with Tennessee having the highest annual electricity consumption at 15,394 kWh per residential customer, and Hawaii the lowest at 6,213 kWh per residential customer. Let us now consider where the biggest impacts are.

Be mindful of the way you use your appliances at home and in the lab. According to a study conducted in 2018 and published in the International Journal of Design, even smart appliances, if not designed to create efficiency in every aspect of an appliances design, can lead to more energy-intensive use. The study examined everything from coffee makers to toasters and concluded that many design opportunities existed which could improve overall energy efficiency. The same is true of lab equipment.Of course, designing your own coffee maker or PCR machine isnt always feasible, but there are other small changes you can make in the way you use your appliances on a daily basis.
Dont open the oven door while cooking, as heat will escape an open door the internal temperature may drop by as much as 25 degrees, according to Energy.gov. Instead, use the internal light to check on food. Dont leave the lid off the water bath unless absolutely necessary and turn off hot blocks when theyre not in use.
ENERGY STAR appliances are another way to improve energy efficiency in the home and the lab. These appliances are certified by the US Department of Energy and are proven to use less energy on average than standard appliances. A study in 2016 lead to the first ENERGY STAR rating for an ultra-low temperature laboratory freezer.
Lastly, its crucial to keep all appliances clean and well-maintained. Appliances like refrigerators and dishwashers, irrespective of whether they are washing your cups or your reaction flasks, run more efficiently when their filters and door seals are cleaned regularly and are free of dust.
The way you light your space has a big impact on the environment. Lighting is also one of the easiest ways to fall behind on energy efficiency, making it important to make eco-friendly choices when considering lighting options. Communal spaces, like laboratories and offices can be particularly challenging with large areas often being lit even when they are not in use.Home Energy Management Systems include sensors and smart devices that help homes reduce their energy usage. While they have been proven effective in reducing energy consumption, a 2017 study conducted at the Western Cooling Efficiency Center found a relatively low market penetration rate for these systems, indicating that consumer interest is currently not great enough to become widespread.
Many older homes and facilities use incandescent lighting, but these light bulbs are not the most efficient in terms of energy usage. In fact, they give off only a fraction of the light an LED bulb emits the rest is expelled as heat energy. An LED bulb, on the other hand, prioritizes energy efficiency and will last much longer than an incandescent bulb.
Additionally, its always a good idea to capitalize on natural lighting when possible. During the day, leave the lights off in brighter rooms. Consider using light paint colors and mirrors to help enhance the natural brightness of a space.

Americans use a significant amount of water every day. In fact, the US Geological Survey states that the average person uses between 80 and 100 gallons of water every day. With that in mind, its important to do everything we can to cut our water consumption where possible.
When doing laundry, you should never start a load until its full the washing machine will use the same amount of water regardless of how many clothes, scrubs or lab coats are inside.
For items where sterility isnt paramount, you may also consider skipping a few washes between wears. A 2015 study conducted for a well-known clothing brand determined that washing jeans every ten wears (instead of every other wear) reduces energy use, climate change impact, and water intake by up to 80%.
The bathroom is one of the biggest water-using rooms. From showering to flushing the toilet, you may be using hundreds of gallons of water per day without even realizing it.A standard shower head sprays two and a half gallons of water every minute. According to the Alliance for Water Efficiency, the average shower time is 7.8 minutes. Taking this average and assuming that you shower daily, thats a staggering 7,116 gallons of water a year on showers alone. For a family of four, its nearly 30,000 gallons of water a year. To mitigate this, consider switching to a low-flow shower head.
Even with the incredible volume of water showers use each year, theyre nothing compared to baths. A full bathtub could require as much as 70 gallons of water at a time doing this every day would result in over 25,000 gallons of water for one person. To be more efficient when bathing, opt for a quick five-minute shower instead.
Labs too are big consumers of water, from water purification systems to autoclaves. It takes three gallons of water to make just one gallon of deionized water and autoclaves can use up to 90 gallons in a single cycle. Organizations are however taking steps to create more water efficient labs and make changes in the practices and equipment they use.
Credit:Coupon Chief.
A recent study published in The Royal Society Open Science Journal found that indoor temperature preferences for North American homes across seasons averaged approximately 25.35C (or 77.63F). Despite outdoor temperature changes throughout the year, indoor temperatures remain relatively consistent. This suggests that heating and cooling systems must work harder during certain times to maintain internal temperatures, creating a greater need for energy. In laboratories, equipment can generate a lot of heat, necessitating constant cooling of the space to ensure it is comfortable for staff and to prevent the equipment itself from overheating, impacting performance and requiring maintenance. A laboratory space that is overly hot or cold can also interfere with the effectiveness of experiments designed to be performed at room temperature.
Heating and cooling your home and laboratory space puts a heavy burden on the environment. According to Energy.gov, heating water accounts for 14 to 18 percent of total home energy. Thats why its important to look for ways to minimize heating and cooling needs where possible.
When it comes to your thermostat, there are several ways to be more efficient. Adjusting the temperature regularly (based on outdoor temperatures) can save energy, while smart thermostats will make efficient choices autonomously.
Your water heater also consumes a significant amount of energy. To compensate for this, consider doing the following:
Turning down the thermostat on the hot water heater
Wrap old hot water heaters in insulating blankets to help them maintain their temperature
Use a timer to turn off your hot water heater when no-one is there or at night when you dont need hot water.Ultimately, the amount of energy your home consumes is up to you. In the lab, energy savings will help the environment and the business. Your daily choices make a big impact on the environment, but energy efficiency is easily attainable with a few simple changes.

Reducing the Environmental Footprint of Your Home and Laboratory - Technology Networks

Indoor Lighting | Comments Off on Reducing the Environmental Footprint of Your Home and Laboratory – Technology Networks
After successfully bringing back outdoor dining, the state began allowing indoor service as of June 17. Seating is limited to 50% of capacity, and everyone is asked to wear masks and social distance.
As we did with indoor dining, we sent some reporters out to see what the scene is like in restaurants from Stonington to Old Saybrook.
Il Pomod'Oro, East Lyme
My first time eating indoors after Connecticut restaurants reopened felt rather dare I say? normal.
Imagine that.
Of course, the expected coronavirus protocols were in place. (And aren't those protocols feeling weirdly normal now?) The tables were spread out in social-distancing fashion, for example, and servers wore masks and gloves.
That was the scene Friday night at il Pomod'Oro in East Lyme.
When I ate outdoors at some local restaurants during phase one of reopening, it was more of a takeout vibe. (Plastic forks and knives, food in takeout containers, and so on.)
Il Pomod'Oro, though, was a full-on fine-dining experience. A friend and I checked in when we arrived, and the greeter found our reservations and led us to a table.
The venue was busy, with people sitting outside on the front patio and others like us eating inside. People seemed to be following the coronavirus-in-Connecticut guidelines, including wearing masks until they were eating and drinking.
I will say that one nice consequence of the COVID-19 era at all restaurants is the social distancing of tables. You don't have to talk over someone sitting who sometimes feels very close to you, and you don't feel crowded. Ah, the joys of elbow room!
At il Pomod'Oro, the waiter brought us glasses of water, regular utensils, menus, and bread and olive oil. I ordered the pasta special, which boasted vodka sauce, spinach, mushrooms and sausage. My friend got the homemade tagliolini al profumo di mare, with mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp and garlic white wine sauce. Il Pomod'Oro highlights its handmade pasta on its website, and yes, indeed, it lives up to the hype.
We shared dessert, warm apple crostata a la mode, and left quite content with our first phase-two, inside dining experience.
Kristina Dorsey
Whitecrest Eatery, Stonington
A bandanaed Johan Jensen visited our table shortly after we had finished our appetizers on Father's Day to welcome us to his Whitecrest Eatery and, in his Danish accent, tell us how much he'd missed seeing and chatting with customers during the COVID-19 shutdown.
The chef and owner is delighted that he and wife Abbey Hemmann are welcoming customers for inside dining again. Whitecrest served takeout throughout the shutdown but didn't have outdoor space to reopen for phase one. Now, they've moved to the cavernous atrium at Stonington's Velvet Mill, where their restaurant is located, able to seat 40 customers at tables more than 6 feet apart, and ringed with fern-filled planters. That's just two seats short of their indoor capacity, which included the bar.
The chef said he is grateful to be healthy and back in business. With takeout, his menu was limited, but with indoor seating, he's offering dishes such as seared bonito with shakshuka, orzo, Kalamata olives and herbed yogurt, and a summer schnitzel, with mushrooms, peas, asparagus and lemon. We ordered both and were delighted.
There is more joy in cooking for people seated at a table in your restaurant, and seeing their reactions to your food, Jensen said.
For the waitstaff, it was equally exciting. Our waitress told us that although we couldn't see it, she was smiling beneath her mask, as she scribbled our order with gloved hands. It is the employees who have more steps to cover, to carry food and beverages from inside the eatery out to the new dining room in the atrium.
Business is resuming, Hemmann told us, and the restaurant was busy its first weekend. Reservations are recommended and are easily made through the website, whitecresteatery.com.
Guests are asked to arrive with face masks, and to wear them whenever they leave their tables. We felt incredibly comfortable and more than adequately distanced from other diners. And, with no air-conditioning running and all the old mill's big doors wide open, it was pretty close to alfresco dining with a roof and big glass windows over our heads.
Ann Baldelli
Little Pub Restaurant, Old Saybrook
Dining indoors felt like a silly idea when I met a friend on a summer Wednesday evening at the Little Pub restaurant on Boston Post Road.
Exterior tables with umbrellas beckoned from both sides of the Tudor-style building, and the weather was perfect. But we were here to sample indoor dining, a privilege unavailable until last week as we Connecticut residents quarantined at home for months and grew weary of our own cooking.
We hadn't seen each other for a while, and we air-hugged as we exited our cars. Deb admired the decorative old-school phone booths outside as we put on our face masks and entered the restaurant's vast dining room.
A masked server greeted us at the open side door, and we asked for a four top table so we could sit diagonally from one another, remove our masks and chat without swapping respiratory droplets.
With a high ceiling, generously spaced tables and open doors at both sides, the dining room felt airy and safe. Our wooden table was spotless, and big pump bottles of hand sanitizer were available at both entrances.
We forgot about COVID-19 for a while as our attentive server, Kayla, brought food and drinks. Deb had a white zinfandel and ordered the BLT sandwich on thick bread that she said she'd been craving. I had a Bombay and tonic, French onion soup and New England-style lobster roll. We both chose the sweet potato fries on the side, and they came out hot, crispy and luxurious. We considered ordering ice cream, but conceded we were too full.
Our only nitpick of the pandemic-era Little Pub, and of another restaurant where we dined outdoors recently, was that we had to ask for more napkins after unwrapping our silverware and placing it on the sole napkin provided. With heightened concerns about hygiene, restaurants should routinely provide a couple of extra napkins or even a wet wipe or two.
Karen Florin
S&P Restaurant and Oyster Bar, Mystic
At S&P, indoor dining on the first and second floors felt spacious, sanitary and safe.
The restaurant's reopening doubled as a debut for new decor in its sleek second-floor dining room a colorful lighting fixture that decorates the ceiling with waves of blue, pink and orange, shining neon light down on the room. Hanging above the dining room's floor-to-ceiling windows, which offer sweeping views of Mystic Harbor and the drawbridge, the installation brightens as the sun dims each night. The installation was designed by glass artist Jeffrey P'an.
Instead of reservations, the restaurant is offering priority seating. Guests who call in ahead of time can request a time block during which they will be seated before any walk-in guests. The restaurant's automated messaging system suggests calling days in advance, as priority seating slots are expected to fill up quickly, but a day-of call was no trouble on June 23 for a 7:50 p.m. slot. Our table, tucked into a nook on the second floor, was ready as soon as we arrived.
Nine tables on the second floor were spaced at least 6 feet apart. Our table, at the very back of the dining room against a large window, offered beautiful views of the foggy sky and a safe distance from all other diners. Three other parties of two and one party of four were dining upstairs that evening.
The surfaces in the dining room floor, tables and bar looked sparkling clean and our servers changed their gloves more times than I could count. Whenever a guest left, staff swooped in to quickly sanitize the tabletops. Two waiters alternated throughout the evening, taking turns checking in, serving our food and clearing our plates. I would have felt more comfortable coming into contact with only one server. Though both were introduced to us, an explanation for the team wasn't offered.
Disposable menus were printed on paper but everything else was standard fare there were no offers made for plastic utensils or disposable napkins and drinks were served in glasses without straws. I would've preferred to use disposable utensils, napkins and straws, but opted to use what they had set out, since everything felt impeccably clean.
In addition to a new look, the restaurant debuted a new summer menu. We started off with The Saint, fizzy cocktails made with blueberry vodka, as we enjoyed our appetizers spinach artichoke dip and a seafood crepe. The dip was served with fresh wontons and the crepe was as delicious as it was unique, filled with shrimp, crab and lobster topped with a cream sauce.
For our entrees, we enjoyed a steak prepared in an ancho coffee rub and a heaping plate of linguini alfredo topped with a half-pound of lobster tail and claw meat. It was the first time I've ever been served more lobster than I could finish.
Throughout our meal, the ambiance was peaceful. There was no foot traffic, no bustling staff going in and out of the kitchen, no quick turnover at neighboring tables. As slow, melodic music pumped through the speakers as the sun set, the environment felt calm and quiet.
Our servers wore masks the entire time. No other diners were wearing masks once seated, and some patrons seen wandering around the first floor to use the restroom were not wearing masks. There did not appear to be any hand sanitizer available on the second floor, besides in the restroom, but a small bottle was available on the host stand on the first floor. We, however, were seated directly by a host who was set up on the porch outside, so we didn't pass by the indoor host stand and therefore did not have access to hand sanitizer besides our own before starting our meal.

Buildings and homes designed to fight viruses and mental health issues could be part of the COVID-19 legacy.
Healthy homes are already cropping up across Melbourne, featuring simple additions that can lead to happier and healthier lifestyles.
We've asked the experts what can boost your family's wellbeing today and what's on the horizon.
HUMIDITY HAVENS
Humidity has emerged as one of the few environmental factors that can help fight COVID-19.
Harvard Medical School infection control consultant Dr Stephanie Taylor - from the hard-hit United States - has revealed there are virus-fighting air moisture levels we can create at home.
"Ensuring a relative humidity of 40-60 per cent has been proven to be more effective in deactivating these viral particles, both in the air and on surfaces," Dr Taylor said.
"The cold, dry air of winter clearly facilitates the spread of SARS-CoV-2 - the virus that causes COVID-19 - among people. Setting minimum indoor humidity levels for public buildings will reduce the burden of COVID-19, and other upcoming seasonal viral illness, on society."
One of the first Melbourne homes to provide automated air quality control including humidity was built in Truganina in 2018. Picture: Jay Town.
Modern smart homes with hi-tech air purification systems were an option, she said. But even installing a humidifier could help prevent "dry air", which resulted in mucous membranes in the nose and mouth drying out and becoming less efficient at fighting bacterial and viral infections.
RMIT School of Property, Construction and Project Management lecturer Dr Nicola Willand said energy-efficient design requirements in Victoria put many new homes ahead of the game.
"Having a warm home is really important, because air is like a sponge" she said. "It can absorb moisture - and to get to a particular level of humidity, the home needs to be warm. In cold rooms, humidity drops and your nose and mouth dry out, which makes it easier to get sick."
Dr Willand - who's establishing Australia's first housing and health course - said homes designed with greater thermal efficiency, which required less heating and cooling, were more likely to remain in the right temperature brackets to maintain ideal humidity.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH
The industry is also increasingly aware of the impact the home environment can have on mental health.
Big windows for plenty of natural light, gardens and indoor greenery have all featured in studies into human wellbeing - though their effects are not well understood as yet.
A bit of greenery at home is believed to help with mental health and to lower stress.
"Even a balcony with a green area will help to reduce stress," Dr Willand said. "Our nervous system responds really positively to green. It's probably part of why we tend to take flowers to someone in hospital."
Window orientation is also important. Most people would know the importance of north-facing glazing for natural light throughout the year. But few would know that a west-facing window, with a deciduous tree or a vine-clad pergola in front of it, was ideal for boosting warmth in winter without overheating in summer.
For those who worked from home, Dr Willand also recommended a south-facing window to provide even lighting without glare.
It was also important homeowners ensured existing building features aimed at protecting their health were operating correctly.
A U-shaped bend in pipes helps keep bacteria and bad smells from wafting back into homes.
World Health Organisation studies of the SARS outbreak in Hong Kong in 2003 suggested faecal matter in sewerage pipes had infected people in one apartment tower with the virus. This was because U-bend pipes had been left to dry out in some areas.
Normally filled with water, these pipe features create a barrier to smells and bacteria wafting back out of pipes into bathrooms and laundries. But if allowed to dry out, they stop working.
Overspill pipes set into bathroom and laundry floors were the most likely to dry out. "So if you can smell a funny smell, put in some water," Dr Willand said. "What you are usually smelling is bacteria."
HI-TECH FUTURE
Advanced home features that control air quality, humidity, or keep bushfire smoke out, are another way the home can help keep illness at bay, according to Delos building biologist Bree Fisher.
Ms Fisher expected health and safety to "become a standard benchmark" in buildings as a long-term effect of COVID-19.

Her industry identifies and mitigates health hazards in the built environment, be that through air and water quality, building materials, mould and moisture levels, or electromagnetic fields.
"Anything to boost your immune system, or even to get you good sleep and reduced stress," Ms Fisher said.
Houses with such a focus have been built by Simonds Homes across Melbourne since Delos launched their Darwin Home Wellness Intelligence platform here in 2018.
Operating in a few thousand homes today, it tracks and maintains air quality including humidity, purifies water from every tap, and includes circadian-rhythm based lighting.
Ms Fisher said even a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter over heating and cooling ducts could provide benefits for some conditions.
For those considering a renovation or buying a home in the near future, it could be wise to consider the building materials, too.
"Concrete or unsealed ceramics or unsealed wood will be a lot more porous, and a lot more bugs can be absorbed into them," Ms Fisher said.
OUR HEALTHY HOME

Guramarinder Singh's healthy home in Melbourne's southeast has been a boon for him and his family.
He moved into the Botanic Ridge house with his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their daughter Heleen Kaur, 10, and son Guramarpel, 5, just in time to escape the worst of bushfire smoke that blanketed Melbourne early this year.
Its computer-controlled air and water filtration proved to be particularly important, given both his children have had problems with asthma. "Inside, they were really good," Mr Singh said.
The family also noticed it had adopted healthier habits since moving into the house featuring home wellness technology from Delos.
This included wanting to drink the tap water - something they never enjoyed at their previous home.
"With good hydration, you feel it cleaning your body," Mr Singh said.
The importance of the home environment for the family's health had also become more apparent.
He said he now believed construction or material improvements that might help viral infections could soon be a wonderful addition to home life.
