New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS): Home Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday reviewed the country's security situation at a high-level meeting here.
The meeting comes ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit to India for the Republic Day celebrations and following the recent violence in Assam perpetrated by Bodo militants and a blast in Bengaluru.
"We discussed the country's security situation," army chief Gen. Dalbir Singh told reporters after the meeting, but refused to give details.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and chiefs of intelligence agencies were also present in the meeting.
Last week, the home minister had met the army chief to review the security situation in Assam where over 70 people were killed and around 10,000 were taking shelter in relief camps after Bodo militants attacked adivasis in three districts.
A blast in Bengaluru Sunday killed a woman and injured three other people.
India has already asked neighbours Bhutan and Myanmar to help evict Indian militants who are believed to have bases there.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Members of a Brooklyn family woke up Monday morning to find a shocking site on their home security monitor.
As CBS2s Tony Aiello reported Monday night, the family found a masked man inside their home, just below the room where their children were sleeping. The man also had a gun.
When the police came, we looked over the video, and suddenly, what do I see? The guy has a gun! said burglary victim Haim Mitnizki. Its clear, and then I realized how lucky I was.
Mitnizki, of Crown Heights, was sound asleep early Monday morning when the burglar broke into a rear door and entered his home.
Mitnizki is in the security business, and his home is equipped with surveillance cameras and motion detectors. They set off a piercing alarm, and woke up the house.
Mitnizki said he looked at a video feed on his laptop and spotted the intruder.
I was yelling to my wife: Call the cops! Get the kids! Protect the kids! Im going downstairs, he said.
Mitnizki said he grabbed a knife for protection. But by the time he got downstairs, the burglar had fled.
This burglar was really brazen, Aiello reported. Not only did he target a house that was clearly marked as having home security, but he also broke one of the surveillance cameras as he approached the back door.
The NYPD was working to determine Monday night whether the burglary was linked to others. Meanwhile, the Shomrim, a local volunteer patrol, was warning residents.

5 cyber threats to watch for in 2015 -

The Sony hack -- and the FBI's conclusion that North Korea is responsible -- renewed security professionals' discussions of an ongoing cyberwar between countries and other opposing entities. Experts say we can expect more skirmishes to play out online rather than on the battlefield.
"Experts have been calling it a 'cyber Cold War' for some time, and that's only ramping up quickly," said Chris Petersen, CTO and co-founder of security intelligence company LogRhythm. "Nation-states both weak and strong see cyberattacks as a weapon to counter the global influence of the U.S."
Petersen also expects an increase in governments' use of malicious software to spy on certain individuals' activity. Last month Amnesty International released an anti-spyware tool that scans devices for government surveillance software.

Overall, the experts think the number of cyberattacks will increase during 2015 and beyond. It's scary stuff, but they hope the public conversation and awareness will increase as well.
"It doesn't happen overnight, but making changes requires starting the conversation," Petersen said. "Unfortunately, I do think truly moving forward will take a few years."
In the meantime, Coggeshall, the LifeLock executive, reiterated a handful of best practices "that will really protect the average person from the majority of attacks levied against them": Keep antivirus software updated, use strong passwords, never put sensitive personal information online or emails, exercise extreme caution when clicking links or downloading attachments and don't sign into accounts when using public Wi-Fi networks.
"We still have to tell people this stuff, which I think shows that in the next years we'll still be in this general discussion phase," said Thompson of Blue Coat. "There will be more breaches. But there will also be more and more discussion over dinner tables, and that's where awareness begins."

The home ministry has directed security agencies to remain vigilant as the date for promulgating the new constitution approaches.
In a meeting with regional administrators, security chiefs and chief district officers on Sunday, the ministry asked officials to beef up security in areas under their watch.
Five regional administrators, 12 chief district officers from mid-Tarai and CDOs form Rupandehi, Banke, Kathmandu , Lalitpur and Bhaktapur attended the meeting headed by deputy prime minister and home minister Bam Dev Gautam.
The CDOs briefed the security situation in the districts bordering India and possible infiltration of criminal elements from the other side of the border.

NEW DELHI:Security has been tightened in India after a bomb blast killed one woman in the southern city of Bengaluru.
India's home ministry has called the incident "an act of terror". But so far, no militant group has claimed the responsibility for the blast on Sunday (Dec 28).
The explosion killed a woman, 38-year-old Bhavani Devi, and injured three others in Bengaluru. Preliminary reports suggested that the improvised explosive device, which was triggered with a timer, was placed outside a popular restaurant in the heart of the city.
Junior Home Minister Kiren Rijiju said: "Definitely, it's a terror attack. We have to upgrade the security apparatus. We have to increase the level of alertness."
Known as the IT hub of India, Bengaluru had been on a high alert since the arrest of a youth last month for allegedly running a pro-Islami State twitter account. The account sent out an array of information about the group's activities.
Over the past six years, the city formerly known as Bangalore has been hit by several blasts, the worst being the explosions in 2008 which left over a dozen injured. Some security experts feel the latest attack was most likely the work of the Indian Mujahideen, a group responsible for most of the previous strikes in the region.
Security expert Qamar Agha said: "All indications show that it is one of those typical IEDs (improvised explosive device) used earlier by Indian Mujahideen. They have been consistently targeting the mega cities of India, which are the business hub of this country."
Meanwhile in the aftermath of the latest attack, authorities have stepped up security in all vulnerable cities in the wake of ongoing year-end festivities.

In aprevious article, Urban Defense Planning for the Home, it was briefly discussed that designing a home defense system to evade possible criminals is your only way to protect your home, your family and your belongings, as well as alert you to anyone trying to break in. Home invasions are growing more and more frequent these day. Recently in the news, a 15 year old shot a home invader trying to break into his home.
Desperate individuals feeltheir cause isjustified and important enough to break in, terrorize, attack and steal belongings from others homes. Thieves arebeginning to usetechnologies such as Google Maps and iPhone applicationsto gain an upperhand in breaking into your home. Being aware of thepossible bouts of crime in your area, the technologies that are being used against you and and designing a home defense system around this will help to better protect your home.
Preventative measures can be put in place to keep these scums far away from your home. Minimize thethreat of a home break in or home invasion by adding layers of security to prevent your home from being a possible hit.Security layers are preventative measures put into place thatwill advertise to possible intruders to avoid your home altogether.
This is the most critical layer.
Its not enough these days totellthose who are home alone tohave thedoors and windows locked at all times or to notopen doors for strangers. Parents need to thoroughly discuss emergency and safety plans with those living in the home, as well asprotocols on how to handle certain dangers. A person who is prepared for a possible run in with a burglar or home invader is well equipped with knowledge on the homes security features, knowledge on how to get additional family members to safety, get help, and as a last resort know how to use a weapon.Teaching members of the family what a home invasion is and the dangers associated with it will help them understand thatinvaderswill not be kind, that they are intending to hurt persons who are inside, and will stop at nothing to get what they want.
When an emergency arises, adrenaline is kicks in, andtriggers the fight-or-flight response, causing a rush of emotion, anxiety and for some, panic. Practising emergency plans can help a family knowexactly what to do and how to stay calm doing it. Dangerssuchas home invasions and burglaries are occurring more frequently, thus causing those who are home alone to be more at risk. Having layers of security features in and outside of the home can keepthose inside the homesafer.

The well-rounded, multi-layered approach outlined in the Blueprint helps you make sense of a wide array of preparedness concepts through easily digestible action items and supply lists.
