CES 2013: Cisco builds wireless home security control panel for AT&T - January 9, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Summary: Cisco has teamed up with AT&T on a new home security platform for wirelessly monitoring and managing everything from smoke detectors to door locks.

LAS VEGAS -- Cisco is trotting out a new home security automation and management platform that it has built in partnership with AT&T.

Based on a concoction of AT&T software and Cisco communications radios, the Digital Life platform is touted to offer customers with the ability to manage home security and various connected devices within the home from virtually anywhere.

Examples of such devices range from smoke and motion sensors to thermostats to security cameras.

Cisco will be more responsible for the back-office provisioning work and applications, which enable users to manage home security remotely from PCs and mobile devices. And note that while the service runs on AT&T's nationwide wireless network, it's actually broadband-provider agnostic.

Here's a rundown on some of the hardware and software that makes up the Digital Life home security platform:

The Digital Life service is scheduled to roll out across eight U.S. markets in March, followed by up to 50 more markets throughout the year.

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) January 08, 2013

Alabama, also known as the Dixie state has over 4 million residents and the number of property crimes reached over 168,000 in 2010. The need for home security and safety has never been greater. Alabama residents now have a resource that will help them choose the best alarm system for their family.

After a thorough investigation of the top security providers, the results for the best security companies in Alabama are in. The 2013 winner for the best security company in the state of Alabama goes to FrontPoint Security. FrontPoint Security offers a simple to install wireless home security system that not only provides intrusion detection but also will serve as an early warning against fire and carbon monoxide. The 6Webs.com editorial staff discovered an overwhelming amount of positive customer feedback when conducting the FrontPoint Security system reviews.

Tim Smythe, the senior editor for 6Webs.com stated, "We enjoy going from state to state and ranking the top security providers. It provides the residents of the state more information than what they receive with just a single review. Not all of the nation-wide home security companies conduct business in every state so it is important to 6Webs.com to deliver this information on both a national and local level."

Another home security company that received high marks is ADT. ADT provides professional installation services of their home security systems. The ADT security reviews resulted in them earning a Bronze Award at a national level for their excellent customer services and high-quality home security equipment.

There was one aspect of home security that Alabama residents expressed as most important to them and that is reliability of both the home security company who provides the monitoring services and reliability for the equipment and technology used to protect their home. Both FrontPoint Security and ADT provide reliable 24/7 monitoring services 365 days a year. Additionally, they both provide cellular monitoring which is the best home security monitoring technology available on the market today. Cellular monitoring prevents burglars from cutting phone or Internet wires which can render a home security system useless.

iSmartAlarmTM Puts Home Security in the Palm of your Hand - January 9, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

CES 2013 iSmart Alarm, Inc. (www.ismartalarm.com) today unveiled a new alarm system that utilizes the iPhone to revolutionize the modern day home security experience. The system, with iCameraTM video and picture alert and notifications, is the first to allow iPhone users the ability to arm, monitor, and disarm their security systems anytime and anywhere in real time. The iSmartAlarm offers a simple setup and no contracts or monthly fees. The company will be showcasing a working version of the iSmartAlarmTM product at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES, booth 6519) in Las Vegas held Jan. 8-11.

People are already using their iPhones in all facets of their lives, so it was natural to extend the use to home security, said Raymond Meng, Co-Founder & CEO, iSmart Alarm. By incorporating the iPhone into our system, people can now use their iPhones to protect their homes, belongings and, most importantly, their loved ones in safer and more intelligent ways.

The iSmartAlarm puts a 21st century spin on traditional security systems. The sleek, sophisticated design sets up in minutes with no need for professional installation. Simply plug the CubeOneTM, the brains of the system, into any outlet and connect to an Internet router. Then attach the wireless window sensors, door sensors, motion detectors and cameras in any room you want to monitor. If the alarm is triggered by suspicious activity, the system will phone the user instantly and automatically take five pictures from different angles, moments apart, and send them to the users iPhone.

The iSmartAlarmTM allows you to see what is happening at your house no matter where you are, judge the situation quickly, and make the right decisions to protect what matters most, said Raymond Meng. Additionally, an alert message will also be sent immediately to your family members or other contacts allowing you and your loved ones to stay out of harms way.

While traditional security systems are built into the home, the iSmartAlarmTM is a portable home security solution, making it ideal for not only house owners, but also renters living in apartments. With no monthly fees and no contracts, the iSmartAlarmTM will save customers thousands of dollars for the life of the product over conventional home security systems.

In addition to protecting homes, the iSmartAlarm is an open platform and could be used for a variety of household purposes including turning lights on and off, controlling room temperature remotely, monitoring for carbon monoxide gas, smoke and water leaks, tracking your pets and feeding your pets on your schedule.

iSmart alarm transforms the iPhone into a home security system - January 9, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

A new home security system due to be showcased at this year's CES transforms the iPhone into an image-supported burglar alarm, enabling users to make rapidfire decisions about their home security from afar.

Called the iSmartAlarm, the device incorporates wireless window sensors and camera technology to create a home security system. Users connect the central hub of the system, called the CubeOne, into a power outlet and a wireless router and then connect the wireless door and window sensors, motion detectors and cameras to strategic points around their house.

When the system is activated, in the result of a break-in for example, the system will phone the user's mobile and automatically take five pictures, a few moments apart, and send them to the user's iPhone. The iSmartAlarm will also send a message to the user's family, or other phone contacts, alerting to them to the fact that the alarm has detected suspicious activity. The service does not require a subscription fee.

Also at CES this year will be home security solutions company Alarm.com. Initially launched in 2010, the company now manufactures an integrated home support system that enables users to control several aspects of their home, such as lights and blinds, from afar as well as view a live video feed of their house or apartment. Subscriptions to the service vary depending upon the number of connected devices in the user's home.

Home security system captures Raleigh burglary on tape - January 3, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Raleigh, N.C. A Raleigh couple's home security system could help them find the criminals who broke into their home.

Matt Robinson installed eight cameras in different places around his home as a way to keep an eye on his dog.

The cameras can be accessed online or by using a smartphone, but Robinson said he and his wife had trouble pulling them up Saturday night while they were out of town for the holidays.

A relative went to their home to check things out and found the house had been burglarized.

"Three kicks is all it took" to break through the back door, Robinson said Tuesday.

He retrieved the video that recorded the the burglary. It shows the three thieves casually walking around the house for nearly 15 minutes looking for valuables. One of them even used a knife to open a box.

"Imagine seeing your own house and people that should not be there going through your stuff. It is not a good feeling," Robinson said.

One of the thieves eventually noticed the video cameras and is seen in the video cutting the cables to at least one of them. Bleach also was poured over a box that records the video from the cameras, but it wasn't enough to erase the images of the burglary.

Robinson put the video on YouTube and has passed out fliers in his neighborhood, asking anyone who recognizes the people on the tape to call police.

The thieves stole about $1,500 in cash and electronics, he said, but they also took something on which he cannot put a dollar figure.
