AT&T to roll out wireless home security service in Kansas City - May 21, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

AT&T on Friday will launch a wireless home security service in the Kansas City area, with features that allow customers to control appliances, shut off water and give someone access to check on the pets.

The service, called Digital Life, represents AT&Ts bid to tap into the growing market for customized security and home management systems that can be accessed from smartphones, tablet computers and personal computers. In March, Time Warner Cable rolled out its IntelligentHome wireless security and home management service in the Kansas City area.

While AT&T said the home security business is an $18 billion industry, the company noted that only about 20 percent of homes have security systems and less than one percent have home automation services.

AT&T introduced Digital Life in 15 markets in April, and Kansas City is one of seven additional markets being added this week. The other cities are Baltimore, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Sacramento, and Washington D.C.

The nations number two wireless company said it intends to offer the service in about 50 market by the end of this year.

The service will rely on AT&T owned and operated montoring centers in the U.S. to respond to potential emergencies and alert police and fire departments.

Digital Life will be available in two basic plans: Simple Security, the basic home security package which will cost $29.99 a month, plus $149.99 for equipment and installation; and Smart Security, which includes additional security features and the option to add home automation services, such as energy conservation features for appliances. It starts at $39.99 a month, plus $249.99 for equipment and installation.

The service includes additional protection services with additional fees. For more information: http://www.att.com/digitallife.

Couple says $99 home security system initially cost hundreds more - May 21, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

By DON DARE 6 On Your Side Consumer Investigator

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - If the flood of the commercials are any indicator, competition is fierce among home security system companies.

To lure customers, companies will offer "free equipment" and a low installation charge.

But one South Knoxville couple says the bargain they saw turned out to be nothing like the printed advertisement.

The flyer spoke for itself. It advertised free home security system and the customer pays a $99 installation charge. The ad even says what the system includes.

But for Don and Alfreda Jewell, their bill far exceeded $99 once the system was installed.

The Jewells are paying a contractor to fix up their nearly 80-year-old home and they want it protected from intruders.

After receiving a flier advertising a free home security system, they hired a company called Protect Your Home last January to install several pieces of equipment.

"Just the front and back door sensed and a motion detector inside the home," Don said.

The system also included a digital keypad and panel as well as interior siren and a lawn sign.

How to Improve Landscaping for Home Security – Tip Sheet by AlarmSystemReport.com - May 20, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Charlotte, North Carolina (PRWEB) May 20, 2013

As the warmer weather of spring has begun approaching around the country, many homeowners are beginning their spring and summer landscaping projects. While the importance of alarm systems has been widely reported, there are a few unique landscaping tips that homeowners can follow to augment their level of home security. These home safety tips are ideal when used in conjunction with the presence of an alarm system, but even on their own, they are an easy and inexpensive way to make your home safer against intrusions.

The home alarm specialists at AlarmSystemReport.com, a site dedicated to providing alarm system reviews, put together a brief list of a few of these landscaping tips that can reduce the likelihood of a home break-in.

1.Keep bushes and shrubbery neat, tidy and well-pruned. A home that is shrouded by bushes and trees means that a burglar will have ample hiding spaces. A home with a great deal of covering from bushes and shrubs is more likely to be broken into than a home that has neatly trimmed shrubberies.

2.Choose shrubs and plants that are going to deter burglars, such as a thorny bushes and cacti. These type of plants are particularly useful when planted around entry points, such as doors and windows. Not only are thorny plants advantageous to prevent burglars from hiding around property, but theyre also easy to maintain.

3.Plant shrubbery that grows fairly low to the ground. This will keep a home from being hidden from view, and will allow neighbors to view whats going on around a home, even if the homes residents are away.

4.Always keep the lawn manicured and well-maintained, to avoid the appearance that the home is abandoned or the residents of the home are away. If the members of a household are going to be away on vacation or for any period of time, its best to hire someone to mow the lawn and take care of the landscaping, because a home with an unruly or untamed lawn makes it a big target for most burglars.

5.When selecting landscaping for home security, opt for plants that dont require a lot of maintenance. This will help avoid the plants dying easily or looking as if they havent been cared for, which, as mentioned above, is a primary way that many burglars target homes.

FrontPoint Security Voted for Best Overall Home Security System Company in America – SecuritySystemReviews.com - May 20, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) May 20, 2013

One of the more frequent endeavors of the site SecuritySystemReviews.com is to rank various products and service providers. After a thorough analysis of highly rated security systems available in the market today, the different content contributors have decided that Front Point Security is this years best overall home security system company.

To guarantee reliability, veteran professionals from the home alarm and security industry are the ones to actually make the evaluations. This is no simple customer review site. What consumers will receive is a balanced and in-depth evaluation of product features and specifications. It is important to know the essential differences between wired and wireless alarms. But it is just as equally vital to understand why one might be more beneficial than the other. Who would be better at putting together such recommendations than home security experts?

FrontPoint Security is known for its implementation of cellular alarm system technology. They primarily offer a broad range of wireless alarm equipment and cellular monitoring methods. This type of home security system enables communication between the different components without depending on physical lines. This makes the whole set up harder to tamper with and ensures warning signals are still transmitted and appropriate response measures are activated.

Another advantage of this type of alarm system is potential scalability. It is much easier to integrate additional components such as sensors and motion detectors at a later stage. There are also DIY alarm system products offered by the company. Lately such systems are increasing in popularity as they can lower the costs involved in installation. One of the particular features highlighted by the review is how the company bundles their products into several packages. This method can lower barriers to entry for homeowners because they also minimize initial expenditures. A home alarm and security system doesnt have to be expensive in order to be dependable.

Smart homeowners know that part and parcel of the planning process regarding significant home-related improvements is to do some thorough comparison shopping. Security System Reviews strives to make ones options easier to understand by providing free and reliable information regarding the multitude of products and services in this area.
