Home Renovation Tips for the New Year - January 22, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

The beginning of each year brings with it the opportunity to make new resolutions. Many people are opting to avoid the traditional New Year’s resolutions; nevertheless, they are making resolutions that relate to the improvement of their homes. Unlike the traditional resolutions, people understand that they have a good chance of upholding home improvement resolutions. For most homeowners, New Year’s home improvement resolutions can be broken down into three categories: small jobs, medium jobs, and large jobs.

Most people do not have any trouble completing the small jobs that are part of their New Year’s resolutions. One small job will include making a home more energy efficient. Energy efficiency does not have to include replacing doors and windows, but it may include replacing traditional light bulbs with energy-saving light bulbs. Although the energy-saving light bulbs may cost more, they will save a homeowner hundreds of dollars throughout the year.

After the small jobs, people may try to complete the medium jobs. Sealing the cracks of doors and windows is a medium job, and it will also make the home more energy-efficient. Since cold and hot air can slip through cracks, it is important to seal the cracks to lower the home’s energy bill. Also, the beginning of the year is a great time to have the home’s heating unit serviced. This is considered a medium job because it will come with an expense. However, it is better to pay for the service rather than dealing with a broken heating unit. A final medium job will include adding a new coat of paint to a dull room. In NY real estate, potential homebuyers flock to homes that have a fresh coat of paint in the rooms. Homebuyers enjoy knowing that they will
not have to paint when they move into the home.

The final type of job will be considered the large jobs. The large jobs are the ones that will take a considerable amount of time or will cost a lot of money. One of the main large jobs is adding new insulation into the home. This will be very time-consuming; however, it will lead to huge savings in the home’s energy bills.

Many people desire to make New Year’s resolutions; however, resolutions that involve home improvement are the ones that most people will keep.

Disaster team president deliberately floods his own house and restores like new - December 19, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Last month, the Rainbow International'sNortheast Disaster Relief Team Area unleashed 1,500 gallons of water into a franchise president's own home. Even though he had just renovated his home earlier in the year, Jason Brown, franchise president of Rainbow International of Fairfield, was confident that the Disaster Relief Team would clean up the mess without a problem.

"Natural disasters occur randomly and quickly, not allowing homeowners to be as prepared as they would like," said Brown. "When these disasters happen, homeowners can certainly rest assured that our restoration professionals will promptly respond to the scene ready to restore their home and belongings."

All within the same day, the Rainbow International Disaster Relief Team hosed down and wreaked havoc to the recently finished basement only to then thoroughly clean up the mess using their Rapid Structural Drying techniques. The Disaster Relief Team is comprised of 15 separate Rainbow International Restoration and Cleaning franchises in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania with some members of the group having upwards of 25 years of experience in providing home restoration from water and flood damage.

"There were no water stains, absolutely no lingering smells in fact, both the television and DVD player worked like new after our team hosed them both down with 10 gallons of water," said franchise owner John Giannullo of Edison, Jersey. Bill Schlott, franchise owner of Orange County, NY quipped, "miraculously, our flood house training facility in Texas continuously is flooded several times each and every month. After years of training franchisees, there is zero structural damage to that facility, no signs of mold growth and we have never had to replace the drywall, carpeting or even replace a coat of paint!"

With their advanced drying restoration program, the cleanup of the home was done in just three hours with many team members focusing their efforts on removing the excess water from Jason Brown's home. The mission's critical element was extracting the standing water immediately so that the home would begin to dry, therefore preventing mold spores from populating. Using two high-powered truck-mounted vacuums, the Rainbow International Disaster Relief Team removed water from the walls, ceilings, steps, carpets, furniture, wood trim and subfloor. The team set up twelve high-velocity air movers to aid in the evaporation of existing moisture-laden air. To reduce the humidity within the home, both a low grain refrigerant and desiccant dehumidifier were set up in the basement. Once the relative humidity of the home was restored to normal conditions within three days, the basement of the home was fully ready for the Jason Brown's small children to enjoy their play room again.

"During Hurricane Irene, our franchise offices each fielded over 1,200 inbound calls from flood victims," said franchise president John Curatola of Staten Island. "Many of our Rainbow International franchises restored an average of 60 homes per week for several weeks after Irene passed through over a year ago. Chris Robledo, franchise owner of Blackwood, NJ added, "as a result of the hurricanes that have hit recently, 15 Rainbow International locations in the Tri-State area became a unified front and now work together to handle large loss projects that require significant manpower, equipment and vehicles." The group has tractor trailers ready to deploy at a moment's notice during disasters. The trailers are fully stocked with all the equipment needed to tackle a fire, water, smoke or mold disaster.

Rainbow International Industry Leader and Innovator Established in 1981, Rainbow International, a subsidiary of The Dwyer Group, offers over 300 global service locations. As a premier provider of restoration and cleaning services, Rainbow International deploys professional emergency response crews with advanced equipment, state-of-the-art technology and training to restore property, contents and ultimately, peace of mind. Insurance, commercial and residential customers depend on Rainbow International to mitigate damage and restore contents for businesses and homes suffering from water, fire, smoke, odor and mold situations.
