Atlanta HVAC repair company Bardi Heating, Cooling and Plumbing proudly supports the mission of Resource Service Ministries as a subcontractor to provide gas furnace replacements and repairs. Bardi president Alex Bardi also volunteers with the Summer Youth Program and teaches Atlanta teens the basics of heating, cooling and plumbing.
Resource Service Ministries (RSM) is a nonprofit that provides low-income and fixed-income senior citizens with home improvements and repairs at no cost. Our Summer Youth Program requires a lot of support from local businesses like Bardi Heating and Air in order to make it happen. Bardi helps with our construction curriculum by training young inner-city teens about heating and air and plumbing, said Michael Kinsey, executive director of Resource Service Ministries. Alex Bardi also comes and shares with our youth about what makes a business work and the importance of a business having a clear mission statement and philosophy of business. I am pleased to have a strong partnership with Bardi and I appreciate their staff taking time out of their busy schedules to impact the lives of these fatherless, inner-city youth.
Alex Bardi, President of Bardi Heating, Cooling and Plumbing, adds: It is important for me as a business owner and as an individual to be active in our community and encourage my employees to be active in their own communities. Dear Editor: Here are my ideas for Mary Burke's "Blueprint for Wisconsin":
1. Voting rights for everyone: easy access and no long lines; any document showing name and address acceptable to vote; expanded hours and days for voting; expanded simple absentee voting including online possibilities.
2. Clean renewable energy: an aggressive long-term plan for Wisconsin; additional state support for the Focus on Energy program; tax incentives for individuals and businesses utilizing renewable energy; rewards for energy efficiency in home heating and cooling and autos.
3. Education, education, education: increased state support at all age levels for public education; state-supported teacher training and recognition programs; additional state support for aging school infrastructure; state support for student loans and adult education programs.
4. High-speed broadband access for everyone within five years: an aggressive plan to provide access, including in rural areas.
5. Nonpartisan legislative districts that are community-focused:districts should be established by a nonpartisan body, as is done in Iowa.
6. Minimum wage increase: aliving wage that provides cost-of-living increases; consider a graduated minimum wage based on age.
7. Local road repair and transit support: greater state funding from increased fuel taxes yes, it's timetime to increase the user fee for our roads and public transit programs; additional state funds for local road maintenance and local transit systems, not superhighways.

Summer doesnt officially begin until June 21, but sweltering temperatures will be here before you know it. To minimize skyrocketing utility bills, BBB offers some tips to help you stay cool without breaking the bank.
Regular AC maintenance isimportantto keeping your system running smoothly, said Mechele Agbayani Mills, President and CEO of BBB Serving Central East Texas. A yearly tune-up of your heating and cooling system can improve efficiency and comfort, and pre-season check-ups can prevent future problems and unwanted costs
BBB recommends consumers do the following to prevent a breakdown when repair contractors are bombarded with other emergency calls:
Change your air filter regularly. Depending on the type of filter you use, plan to change it at least once per month. If it looks dirty, change it. A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you cool. This wastes energy and leads to expensive maintenance and/or early system failure.
Tune up your HVAC equipment yearly. Before the summer heat really sets in, have a qualified contractor come out and do a tune-up. Nationally, BBB received nearly 1,000 complaints against residential air conditioning service companies in 2013, so its important that you choose a contractor with a good reputation and track record by going to bbb.org. Finding potential problems before they arise will save money on costly repairs down the road. Scheduling a tune-up now might prevent a breakdown when it really gets hot from June through August.
A typical maintenance check-up should include:
Check thermostat settings to ensure the cooling and heating system keeps you comfortable when you are home and saves energy while you are away.
Tighten all electrical connections and measure voltage and current on motors. Faulty electrical connections can cause unsafe operation of your system and reduce the life of major components.
Lubricate all moving parts. Parts which lack lubrication cause friction in motors and increase the amount of electricity you use.

White-Rodgers of St. Louis, Mo., a division of Emerson Climate Technologies, is recalling about 740,000 Home Heating and Cooling Thermostats in the United States and 403,000 in Canada. The alkaline batteries used in the thermostat can leak onto the circuit board posing a fire hazard.
This recall involves four models of White-Rodgers digital thermostats. The thermostats have a battery door on the top left corner. There are three or four buttons to the right and also below the thermostat screen. Recalled thermostats do not show a battery icon on the left side of the blue lighted screen.
The firm has received seven reports of burn damage to the thermostat, including two involving minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should check thermostats for battery icon on the left side of the blue lighted screen, if the battery icon is not shown, contact White-Rodgers to receive a free repair or a replacement thermostat.

As a 2006 graduate of Forest Lake High School, Luke Odegaard knew the district's facilities needed to be upgraded.
But it wasn't until the lifelong Forest Lake resident joined a school facilities task force in 2012 and toured every school that he realized the extent of the need for repairs and routine maintenance.
"That motivated me to do something more," said Odegaard, who leads Vote Yes for Kids, which is supporting Forest Lake Area Schools' $176 million capital levy request. "These are old buildings, and they need to be renovated and brought into the 21st century."
District residents vote on the request Tuesday.
If approved, the levy money will be used to fix aging roofs, update heating and cooling systems, and increase security at school buildings, and for other projects.
It also would allow for creating a campus for middle- and high-schoolers by moving ninth-graders into the high school and putting all seventh- and eighth-graders into one junior high school. School leaders say that setup would be more efficient and give secondary students more academic options.
Superintendent Linda Madsen acknowledges the amount of the tax request is "considerable" but adds that the amount was determined after input from parents, students and district staff who made up the facilities task force. District voters last approved a capital levy in 1999; they rejected a smaller tax request in 2010.
If approved, the levy would cost the owner of a $200,000 home about $200 a year, but that amount would rise because the district plans to borrow money for projects in stages. In a decade, the levy would cost $332 a year for the owner of a $200,000 home, said Larry Martini, the district's director of business services.
District leaders have spent the months leading up to the vote meeting with community members and compiling information about the proposed projects to post on the district website. Odegaard and Madsen say the community response has been generally positive.
"I think people cannot deny there are some things in the district that need attention," Madsen said.

A segment of Emerson Electric Co . ( EMR ), Climate technologies, has launched a revolutionary monitoring service called ComfortGuard for the management of heating and cooling equipment. Being the first of its kind, the product is expected to solve one of the most common problems of American households. The monitoring packages will be available for $9.99 a month. The company has already launched the service in St. Louis.
According to a recent report by the U.S. Department of Energy, it has been observed that more than half of the domestic heating and cooling equipment is in need of repair which is also quite an expensive affair.
Therefore, with the launch of ComfortGuard, Emerson intends to resolve such household issues by providing the homeowners with the required insight and guidance needed to take charge of their heating and cooling equipment. The system will also monitor equipment performance and provide early caution so that minor problems can be dealt with at home. The owners will also be able to consult Emerson experts for recommendations and knowledge on maintenance and repair.
ComfortGuard has 10 built-in high-tech sensors that will collect and convey data over a Wi-Fi connection every time heating and cooling systems are operated. Therefore, with every usage, a 32-point inspection is conducted which includes a scan for efficiency changes, filter degradation and component problems.
To add to the advantages, the homeowners are continuously notified about efficiency and filter status, monthly System Insight Reports and repair verifications through email alerts. This apart, the owners also have access to a fully responsive web and mobile portal, making system status, live data, equipment details, and filter size easily available.
Emerson's Climate technologies reported a 5.4% year-over-year increase in revenues in the second quarter of fiscal 2014. The improvement was driven by strength in global refrigeration markets and transportation. Underlying sales grew about 6%, as currency translation impacted the top line by less than 1%, with the U.S. witnessing sales growth of 2%, Asia 11% and Europe 3%.The U.S. air conditioning business is improving gradually, with mid-single-digit growth in residential markets and low-single-digit growth in the commercial business. Strong demand in China drove the upside in Asia, led by strong refrigeration, solutions and temperature sensors businesses. Also, market conditions continue to improve in Europe.
Emerson currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). However, some better-ranked stocks in the sector worth considering at the moment include Pernix Group Inc . ( PRXG ), Willdan Group Inc. ( WLDN ) and Enersys Inc . ( ENS ). Pernix and Willdan sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) while Enersys has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
