MOSCOW, March 11 (UPI) -- Moscow city officials said they are planning a service to allow households to rent "husbands" for an hour to do work around the house.
Andrei Besshtanko of Moscow's Social Protection Department said the "husband for an hour" service will allow residents to secure the services of a handyman to perform duties such as fixing leaky faucets and putting up shelves.
Besshtanko said the service will be free for low-income households and will be available to others for a fee.
A number of private businesses in Russia offer similar services. The Moscow Husband for an Hour company offers "young andstrong men with ahuge set oftechnical skills" available around the clock for one hour at a time.

"But you're abeautiful woman with akiller manicure that was done only yesterday, andyou're not ready toget intimate with a noisy andhorribly vibrating drill. Who can come toyour rescue inthis case?"
"Assertive men, who'll call themselves your husband foran hour, are ontheir way toyour home," the website reads.
Company officials said the service is marketed to single women, but is also often used by young families lacking in technical skills and elderly residents with limited capabilities.

COUNTY councillors of all parties have formed a united front to fight for a better deal for Hampshire.
They will send a cross-party letter urging Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles to stop cutting the authoritys funding.
Councillors fear further cuts could damage frontline services, including safeguarding some of the countys most vulnerable children and adults.
The authority has lost 51 per cent of its Government funding in the last six years.
As previously reported, library funding has been slashed, neighbourhood wardens axed, bus subsidies removed and hundreds of council jobs lost.
Funding has also been stopped for gardening and handyman services at sheltered accommodation and frail pensioners homes.
Hampshire is bracing itself for a further 100m in cuts that are likely to come into effect after 2017.
The letter to Mr Pickles comes after a motion put forward at the last full council meeting in Winchester by Basingstoke Labour councillors Criss Connor and Jane Frankum when the authority agreed its 2015/16 budget.
It will say that the council will find it difficult to take the same level of cuts in the next parliament as it has already made most of the cuts possible.
They say further cuts could put services at risk, including adult care and childrens services.

After 3,000 calls in three weeks about frozen pipes, Toronto Water tried to reassure anxious customers with a step-by-step guide on what services to expect.
The part about establishing a highline water connection to a neighbours house was particularly interesting to people such as Jennifer Matthews, a resident of the Beaches.
Ms. Matthews and her husband are among a growing group of Torontonians discovering their inner handyman after severe weather. Their efforts create a stopgap until hard-pressed city services can help, though not without some risks.
On Monday, a day after losing water, the couple rigged their home to a neighbours supply with three end-to-end hoses, a bag of parts from a plumbing store and a tip from a stranger. The stranger, a parent at their daughters school, overheard Ms. Matthewss story and passed along what she had learned during the 2013 ice storm.
I came almost running home and said, Oh my God, you can do it yourselves, Ms. Matthews said.
Toronto Water has established more than 400 highlines during this years record-breaking cold snap, and there are 550 households with no water that havent yet been seen.
The agency doesnt know how many people have set up do-it-yourself connections, but general manager Lou Di Geronimo says people are free to do what they want on their own property.
Hours after discovering the freeze-up, Ms. Matthews ushered her two daughters, 11 and 14, across the street in their pyjamas to brush their teeth at a neighbours house, where the eldest insisted on washing her hair.
The next morning, she called Toronto Water and learned it could be up to 48 hours before the call was returned.
This was what, 14 hours in? I was already so sick of it, she said.
