Created by New Designers award winner Emilie Osborne, two 3D installations featured Karndean Designfloorings new LooseLay Series Three and Opus Enhance ranges.
Upon entry to the show, visitors were confronted with the powerful, site-specific hanging installation of Beast, draped over the foyers balcony above the heads of guests.
Looking to combine danger and beauty, Emilie opted to use the textured surface of Karndeans Opus Enhance Carbo. The black wash, wood grain effect created a striking backdrop to the entrance hall.
I wanted to recreate a hostile feeling, one that seems to power over people but I still wanted there to be an aesthetic quality to the piece, which Karndean has added, commented Emilie Osborne.
She said: The authenticity of the wood grain added an element of natural beauty to the design.
Standing at the front of the exhibition hall the design of Brink, based on the 2015 trend for order and control, was a major focal point for visitors. Emilie took inspiration from ancient architecture, predominantly Roman columns.
Emilie said: I didnt know what to expect from LVT, I was worried it might be easy to damage and brittle. Actually I was really surprised at how flexible it was and found it to be really durable.
Emilie featured the light blond hues of Cambridge and warm ginger tones of Burlington from Karndean LooseLay Series Three within the Brink design.
She said: I was able to do far more with it than I ever imagined and was pleased with the way I could manipulate it to make the columns.

Nothing adds a distinctive air (and increased resale value) to your home like natural wood flooring. But hardwoods beauty is just one of its many virtues. In case of damage to your wood floor, just repair or partially replace the affected area -- there's rarely aneed to pull up the whole floor. This will save you money and keep your flooring looking great for many years to come. Here we troubleshoot 7 common forms of damage to hardwood floors, and discuss how to fix them.
Scratches and Scuffs. Often scratches and scuffs on a hardwood floor do not go any deeper than the finish coating, making them easy to touch up. For shallow damage, clean the surface, followed by a gentle buffing with steel wool in the direction of the grain, and then apply sealant and finish. Deeper scratches will require sanding the wood itself before resealing and refinishing. Always buff or sand in the direction of the grain.
Cupping or Crowning. The term cupping means that the floorboards are distorted, with edges higher than their center, while crowning refers to floorboards which have become higher at the center than at the edges. Both are due to excessive damp, which could have been caused by water spills, leakage, or overly high relative humidity. Clear up the source of the moisture first and allow the floor to dry thoroughly. Afterwards, sand the boards flat or replace them as needed.
Buckling. Buckling of your wooden floorboards means that they have pulled away from the subflooring. This may be a reaction to more severe moisture than in the case of cupping or crowning, such as flooding, or to extreme fluctuations of indoor temperature and humidity. Alternatively, the condition can be a result of insufficient drying of the boards before the wood floor installation or inadequate perimeter clearance. It may be possible to correct the buckle by weighting the floor. Address the source of the moisture problem, as well; a dehumidifier could be advisable.
Mold. Black or white blotches or fuzzy patches are signs of mold growth, again caused by overly high levels of moisture in the home. Because mold and its spores are very dangerous to human health, the National Resources Defense Council recommends having a trained professional wearing protective gear sand down the wood floor to physically remove the growth, because cleaning with bleach or other surface treatments is not enough to get rid of the mold spores. The moisture problem must also be remedied.
Squeakiness and Loose Boards. A squeaky wooden floor comes from loose boards rubbing against each other, nails, or adjacent pipes or ductwork. The floorboards may have loosened as the result of contraction due to an overly dry indoor atmosphere in winter; introducing a small amount of humidity might help. Loose boards that present a tripping hazard can be fastened in place, from either above or below, by means of inconspicuous screws.
Black Stains. Black stains on wood flooring are often an indication that a cat or dog had an "accident" in that area, which was not cleaned up promptly. Try sanding, bleaching if necessary, and staining the section to match the rest of the floorboards. However, pet urineis one of the hardest types of damage to repair, and partially replacement of the wood floor may be necessary.
Burns. Small burn marks are usually due to cigarettes. Depending on the seriousness of the scorching, you may be able to remove the marks with a magic eraser, steel wool, sandpaper, or an X-Acto blade. (Sand after using this latter.) Restore the color with a touch-up pen for a small spot, or wood stain for a larger expanse.

Allegedly tainted flooring has left Lumber Liquidators customers feeling as if the rug has been pulled out from under them.
A CBS '60 Minutes' report Sunday said some of the company's Chinese-made laminate floorboards contained unsafe levels of formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. Lumber Liquidators said Monday that it "stands by every plank" of its flooring and that '60 Minutes' used an improper testing method.
Caught in the middle are potentially thousands of consumers, who can't decide whether their flooring is safe, or they should have it ripped out and replaced, a costly proposition.
Many consumers took to the company's Facebook and Twitter accounts with questions and concerns. "Formaldehyde is present in certain LL products and for those products, the levels are safe," Lumber Liquidators said in response to a customer's query on Twitter.
"Testing cited by 60 Minutes is not right," it said in response to another.
When asked for additional detail, a spokesman referred to an earlier statement that said, "Some of the testing cited by 60 Minutes was conducted based on sample preparation methods that have not been independently verified by an accredited standards organization and do not reflect the manner in which the product will be used in the home."
Some of the data cited by CBS came from Global Community Monitor, an environmental nonprofit that filed suit against Lumber Liquidators over its formaldehyde levels. Its suit said that all of the Chinese-manufactured samples it had tested exceeded formaldehyde limits, and that tests were conducted "using a variety of different methodologies, and different samples with different sample preparations and surfaces covered to understand exposures both during and after installation."
CBS said the testing it had performed on behalf of '60 Minutes' followed the protocol set by the state of California. That state's formaldehyde regulations, known as CARB 2, are the strictest in the country and will be mirrored by nationwide regulations expected to go into place this year. CBS also had the labs administer the California Department of Public Health test, which measures the concentration of formaldehyde off-gassing from the laminates.
To test the floorboards for CARB compliance, the outer layer or layers of material such as veneer are removed to expose the core, which is where formaldehyde-containing glue would be used.

In an effort to maintain athlete safety, the Sports Facilities Advisory and Sports Facilities Management (SFA|SFM) will collaborate with Connor Sports Flooring for the floor installation in SFA|SFMs recent project, the Myrtle Beach Sports Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
As youth sports and sport tourism have become increasingly organized and competitive, they have not only created a wealth of economic development opportunities through sporting events with visiting teams and competitors filling hotel local roomsone baseball tournament in Oregon is expected to generate an estimated economic impact of $83,000 (1)but they have also created a need for more and better-quality venues for both local teams and travel tournaments for serious athletes looking to compete. But with the increased competition comes a higher risk for serious injuryaccording to a Safe Kids Worldwide survey of emergency room visits, more than a million times a yearor about every 25 secondsa young athlete visits a hospital emergency room for a sports-related injury. But officials at Connor Sports Flooring maintain that keeping athletes as free from injury as possible is a direct result of the design and performance of the sub-floor system. While proper flooring does not guarantee that an athlete wont be injured, it can greatly reduce the risk in sports where multiple athletes play in close proximity to each other, such as volleyball and basketball. The goal is for all athletes to experience the same benefits of buoyancy, making a resilient sub-floor beneath the hardwood floor the key to controlling the trampoline effect that naturally takes place, per Doug Grove, National Sales Manager at Connor Sports Flooring.
The amount of flexion of the floor directly beneath the athletes feet plays a strong role in preventing athletic injuries. A floor must be able to give when an athlete jumps or falls. Too little give may result in immediate injuries upon impact, while too much give leads to an unstable floor and can feel like one is running on sand; both situations can compound an athletes risk of injury, said Grove.
SFA|SFM chose to work with Connor Sports Flooring in the construction of the Myrtle Beach Sports Center due to the companys proven track record and commitment to athlete safety.
