Feng shui, pronounced fung schway, means wind and water. It is an ancient discipline or art form with roots traceable to prehistoric eras. Feng shui evidence has been found depicted in cave drawings and other early artwork. The University of Floridas Interactive Media Lab reports the practice of feng shui was first established over 6,000 years ago and is related to subjectsof nature such as physics, philosophy, astronomy and astrology.
Feng shui basics. The basic principles of feng shui incorporate the concept of yin and yang along with the five elements. Often termed the art ofplacement, feng shui establishes harmony in your immediate surroundings through the arrangement of furniture, objects and even the selection of colors.
Yin and yang. The concept of yin and yang revolves around duality --two sides, or opposites to everything in nature, including light and dark, smooth and textured, hot and cold, male and female. Patricia Ebrey cites the mythical Yellow Emperor in her Chinese Civilization: A Sourcebook, stating the principle of yin and yang is the foundation of the entire universe. It underlies everything in creation. Too much of any one thing may cause disharmony.
The five elements.Within Chinese philosophy, the five elements are earth, fire, metal, water and wood. The five elements in feng shui may also be known as the five phases or transformations. In feng shui, the five elements can refer to colors, shapes, compass points, seasons, body parts and even your family members, states the UK-based Feng Shui Society. The elements are used to enhance the space, encouraging harmony and balance depending on the arrangement or placement of various objects.
Incorporating feng shui into your living space. Its all about balance. An all-white room trimmed in chrome may feel off-balance because it is lacking contrast and the presence of the other elements. Consider adding an all-cotton throw over a chair to add the element of wood -- cotton and other natural fibers would be considered a wood element. Represent the element of earth with color palettes using browns and greens. Textured rugs and other fabrics can bring the balance of earth into the room as well. The element of fire easily is incorporated into room design, from focal point fireplaces to candles and sconces with artificial flames. Fire also can be added without flames: Simply includefire shades such as red, orange, even pink or incandescent lights. The water element may be brought into a room through actual running water, witha tabletop fountain and aquarium or throughother design pieces suchas flowing draperies, deep ocean blues and artworkin creative asymmetrical designs.

Chan was baptized by Pastor Lam Yee-lok at the Crossroad Community Baptist Church in Tsing Yi Island in Hong Kong on Tuesday, South China Morning Post reports.
"This is the happiest day in my life. It felt like getting married, and I could tell everyone that I am a Christian," he was quoted as saying during his private baptism, attended by about 70 friends and relatives, including his wife, Tam Miu-ching.
Chan's wife testified that she has seen changes in him after his conversion. "He has changed, becoming quieter, happier, and less agitated," she was quoted as saying. "We are more harmonious now, as he is spending more time with the kids."
Chan, who made billions by providing feng shui services to rich people, stands trial next month, on charges of forging a will of the late billionaire Nina Wang Kung Yu-sum. He spent years battling to get hold of her fortune after she died of cancer in 2007. The tycoon, at the time of her death, was chair of Chinachem Group and Asia's richest woman.
The 53-year-old said he was not afraid of going to jail. "There is nothing to be scared of here, because all that matters is under God's plan."

Chan recently told a gathering of Christians that his past was "complete crap," and "has to be flushed away." Feng shui, an ancient Chinese belief system based on harnessing natural and spiritual energies, he said, is fake. "Only Christ is true. If feng shui turns out to be true, it is only the devil playing tricks you have to be especially careful if they come true, because by creating such effects, the devil's motive is to lure people towards him," The Standard quoted him as saying.
Chan told Commercial Radio this week that his life began to change in March last year, when his Christian driver Henry Tam quit and gave him a Bible. "When I held on to that Bible, I felt like paralyzed and warmth in my heart so I asked Henry, 'Can I have a meeting with a pastor?'" he said.
Chan then met Lam Yee-lok, who together with another pastor told him about Christianity.

Feeling stuck in your life? Need more money or a better job? Looking for love or a new boyfriend/girlfriend?
At Thursday's WellFest in Delray Beach, you may find your answers. The latest addition to the city's lineup of activities includes the first annual WellFest, founded by part-time resident and marketing executive Bob Lipp.
"I think Delray is the perfect venue to host this type of event. People are health-conscious, there are business infrastructures in place to welcome us and if you think about the Delray brand, health and wellness come to mind," Lipp said.
A grassroots effort, Lipp has enlisted the support of former mayor, Jeff Perlman who said, "WellFest Delray 2013 will be the inaugural event of what we believe will become a yearly tradition. Delray has always attracted sports, exercise and fitness enthusiasts. Even many of our restaurateurs and chefs are promoting healthier eating, while continuing to cater to all tastes."
Lipp has organized speakers and fitness demonstrations, including Mark Stowe, owner of the Nutrition Cottage on Atlantic Avenue; Margaret Ann Lembo, author and owner of the Crystal Garden, a spiritual center and book store in Boynton Beach; Michelle Goebel, a certified meditation teacher who studied with Deepak Chopra at the Chopra Institute in San Diego; and certified feng shui consultant Sheree Diamond, who will talk abot maximizing potential by decluttering your home.
"It's a great idea to have a wellness expo and bring awareness to the local community. There are all sorts of resources available and people have options," said Diamond, aka The Flow Doctor, a former feng shui columnist. "I like that there will be demos, and hands-on experiential events such as yoga, qi-gong and massage."
Diamond will offer a free one-hour feng shui workshop as part of WellFest to help unblock your home and life.
"Clutter is the first step to address feng shui in the home," she said. "Your house clutter mirrors your emotional clutter, and feng shui can help you move energy through your home and your life."
One suggestion she offers is to see your home as a large vision board and program it to attract what you want to attract in your life. And to surround yourself with things you love. Choose dcor carefully and wisely she said to create beauty and harmony in your environment.
What has feng shui done for Diamond in her life?

HONG KONG: A Hong Kong fortune teller who once advised Asias richest woman but was later embroiled in a high-profile legal battle over her fortune has renounced feng shui for Christianity, a report said yesterday.
Bartender-turned-fortune teller Tony Chan built a career advising clients including the late Hong Kong property tycoon Nina Wang on feng shui, an ancient Chinese belief system based on harnessing natural and spiritual energies.
He lost a legal battle in 2010 to claim the estimated US$13 billion estate of Wang, once Asias richest woman whom Chan said was his lover, after the drama had gripped the city for years with details of his affair with the tycoon.
Now Chan has described feng shui as the work of the devil after he recently embraced Christianity and changed his name from Tony to Peter, the South China Morning Post reported.
This is the happiest day in my life. It felt like getting married, and I could tell everyone that I am a Christian, he was quoted as saying by the newspaper, which released a photo of him being baptised this week.
Chan lost his court case after a court ruled that a will in his possession was a fake. It said the rightful heir to the fortune was the billionaires charity, which is run by her siblings. AFP
