CHRISTMAS guests with lucky wishing balloons, waiting for Marites Allens signal to release them
Galloping like a handsome stallion, the Year of the Horse is coming, and it will bring lots of good luck next year. There are just two days left in 2013 but still around 30 days left in the Year of the Water Snake.
WICKED party guests Dennis Valdes, Javi Martinez Pardo, Sea Princess, Tim Yap, Divine Lee and Victor Basa
Thanks to Marites Allen, the feng shui expert and entrepreneur behind http://www.maritesallen.com, I have some advance tips on how to harness the coming auspicious energy for the New Year. She shared these tips at my annual Christmas party a few weeks ago.
We learned both favorable and unfavorable forecasts for the coming Chinese New Year. Two popular schools of feng shui, The Four Pillars Chart and the Flying Stars Chart, come into full play in reading how the five natural feng shui energies will affect human activities, from business to industry, government, career and other personal pursuits.

The shifting positions of these unseen energies, namely Fire, Water, Earth, Wood and Metal, have positive or negative effects on everyone. It is important for all of us to learn about these annual changes to derive the most benefits from the positive energies and to deflect the negative ones.
Champion sign
Marites excitedly informed us that the champion animal sign for next year is the Sheep, with all the lucky stars in this animals direction. These are people born in 2002, 1990, 1978, 1966 and every 12 years before those years. All aspects of love, wealth and health are stellar, and they will surely have a smashing year.

'Tis the season to buy round fruit from local vendors again, as 2013 races to a finish. Considered cheap and tasty good luck charms for the new year, round fruits are a staple of any Filipino media noche table. And those wanting to continue the tradition this year are advised to buy them now before prices start rising as Dec. 31 approaches.
According to a report on "24 Oras" Thursday, the current prices of popular fruits are as follows:
"Yung maliliit na pinya, kahit di siya makain, basta may pinya, bayabas, kahit di makain, basta kumpleto lang yung display natin," said Marino Puno, a fruit vendor at Mega-Q Mart.
The Year of the Horse
Feng shui fans might also want to buy round fruit, as round and green are the "lucky" shape and color of 2014.
Rearing stallion figurines will also grace their shelves and tabletops, as 2014 is the Year of the Wood Horse.
You don't have to stick to just wood either, said sellers. "Lahat naman pwede. Pwede siyang jade, gold, at white, mas maganda lang nakataas ang paa kasi it symbolizes victory or success," said Denise Doratan Chua, a feng shui shop owner. Those born under the year of the rat may also want to take more precautions than others, since the rat is in conflict with the horse.
"Ang conflict sign ng rat is horse so mas marami siyang challenges... 'Wag sobra ang fight sa gustong makiaway sa kanya, basta lie low lang, gawin lang niya ang dapat gawin," said feng shui shop owner Evelyn Doratan Balay.
However, feng shui experts still recommend exertion on part of everyone if they want to have a good year, since round fruit and hewn horses could only bring so much luck. Rie Takumi/BM, GMA News

From Curt Gunsburys new 7west apartments in Minneapolis to Lynn Gordons soon to open French Meadow Bakery & Caf in St. Paul, feng shui principles are inching into building design and businesses in the area.
In feng shui (pronounced fung shway), every building is believed to possess an inherent energy, known as qi (pronounced chee). The idea is to marshal and promote that energy while keeping out bad forces, according to feng shui consultant Andrew Hong. The Chinese process includes everything from the site of a building and its orientation to the colors and fixtures selected to inhabit it.
A building is composed of energy, and that energy can be good, or it can be bad, Hong said. We want to channel the good energy to our benefit.
Hong, 71, has been busy as one of the regions leading practitioners of feng shui. His largest project was the 213-unit 7west apartment building at 1800 Washington Ave. S. in Minneapolis. One of his most recent is the French Meadow Bakery opening in January in the former Coffee News Caf at 1662 Grand Ave. in St. Paul.
According to Hongs feng shui vision of a city, skyscrapers are mountains and freeways are rivers. In the 7west project, he saw a tsunami of energy emanating from the Seven Corners neighborhood and began thinking about how to control it.
The biggest change he recommended for the $41 million project was to move the front door to face Washington Avenue rather than an adjacent Marriott Courtyard. I immediately saw the entrance was in the wrong position, Hong said.
The biggest change feng shui expert Andrew Hong made in the $41 million 7west apartments was to suggest the front door be moved to a location on Washington Avenue in Minneapolis instead of facing a nearby hotel. (File photo: Bill Klotz)
He recalls that the design team balked at the idea, citing the expense of moving the doors. The entrance ended up being moved because of pressure from the city of Minneapolis rather than adherence to good feng shui principles, he said with a laugh.

How to attract luck on New Year -
December 26, 2013 by
Mr HomeBuilder
By ROBERT REQUINTINA
A clean surrounding, preparing 12 kinds of fruits of different sizes and shapes, and serving fish and chicken dishes are some of the best ways to attract luck on New Year, a modern Feng Shui expert said yesterday. The first order of the day in preparing to welcome 2014 is to de-clutter the most used spaces in the your home. Mag-general cleaning tayo bago mag-New Year. Throw away old things, especially those with cracks in your plates and drinking glasses or worn-out clothes. They will only invite negative energy, said popular Feng Shui Master Hanz Cua. Dapat by December 30, malinis na lahat. Kung hindi natin gagawin ito, stagnant ang luck natin. Change it and fix it.
Master Hanz said that there should be no problem concerning the main door of the house, which he describes as the mouth of the house. He explained that a main door that is broken or not fixed will lead to health problems on stomach, pancreas, liver, and ulcer.
Another area that should be organized is the kitchen. Kung magulo at marumi ang kitchen, this will affect the health and wealth of the occupants. If possible, ang kulay ng kitchen natin is yellow, red or orange to attract luck, said Master Hanz, who recently predicted a bettors jackpot win in the lotto. (Master Hanz said that he did not give the winning lotto numbers. He only forecast the favorable period the bettor placed the bet).
The third area that should be organized is the bedroom where there should be no books, magazines, computers, television sets and most of all, mirrors. Kung meron tayong mga bagay na ito, chances are affected ang pag-tulog natin, especially if the mirror reflects on our bed. If the television set, mirror or computer cannot be avoided in the bedroom, the occupants should cover it before sleeping, added Master Hanz.
On New Years Eve, the dining table should be filled with food. The dining table should show abundance. Serve 12 different kinds of fruits with pineapple as the star fruit. Hindi naman kailangan bilog lahat ng prutas. Banana is also good because it signifies family bonding, Master Hanz said.
Fish and meat dishes, likes pork and chicken, also attract luck. In the olden days, kings and queens serve chicken on feast days. Thats why hindi tutoo yung isang kahig, isang tuka pag kumain ka ng chicken on new year, he added.
Master Hanz also encouraged the public to wear red on New Years Eve and New Years day. He said that the color of the underwear should be red.. Red is one of the lucky colors for 2014. Dapat bago ang red underwear natin pag-dating ng new year.
At 12 midnight, Master Hanz said that revelers may roll kiat-kiat (small and sweet Mandarin or Ponkan oranges from China) from the main door of the house toward the living room. In spattering coins, make sure that they are fresh or new. Then magsaboy ng coins from living room papunta sa mga bedroom. Kailangan mag-aagawan yung mga occupants habang hinahagis yung coins. Make sure that the bed sheets and pillow cases are either brand new or newly-washed, he added.
Master Hanz, who also studied astrology, palm, face and tarot reading abroad, said that the people should make noise in welcoming the new year to rid of negative energy. Open all lights, faucets, windows and doors for few minutes. Dapat lighted ang harap ng bahay. Flickering lights are not good. Ibig sabihin nun hindi stable ang wealth.
