Vroum Vroum revs up to win at Limerick - March 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Updated: Sunday, 15 Mar 2015 17:53 | Comments Vroum Vroum Mag impressed on the way to victory in the Novice Chase at Limerick

The exceptional Vroum Vroum Mag preserved her unbeaten record over fences with a facile success in the Grade Two Irish Stallion Farms EBF Dawn Run Mares Novice Chase at Limerick.

Jumping boldly in the hands of Ruby Walsh, the six-year-old tanked through race, taking the lead with a prodigious leap six out before cruising clear to an eight-length victory on the bridle at odds of 4-11.

Fresh from a record-breaking week at the Cheltenham Festival, it was Willie Mullins' first victory in the race since 2008, but Vroum Vroum Mag's performance was worth the wait.

Keppols Queen (6-1) ran out a determined winner of the Grade Three Kerry Group EBF Shannon Spray Mares Novice Hurdle for Jessie Harrington and Robbie Power.

Having wrestled the early lead from Dalmatia, the daughter of Indian River set about making the contest a real test of stamina and as the field straightened up for home, it was clear that she had short-priced favourite Lyrical Theatre in trouble.

A slick leap at the final flight sealed the contest and the seven-year-old scampered clear to land the spoils by five and a half lengths.

Davy Condon made every yard of the running aboard Chatham House Rule in the Happy Mothers Day Hurdle.

Sent off the well-backed 9-10 favourite, Gordon Elliott's four-year-old had his rivals toiling a long way from home and had enough in reserve to repel the challenge of Tarabiyn by two and a quarter lengths.

The Mad Well (3-1) fought off the opposition in tenacious fashion in the Book Online Atwww.limerickraces.ieHandicap Hurdle, streaking five and a half lengths clear on the run to the line having led from the drop of the flag.

Wolf steps up to plate and swings for fences - March 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

It's a favorite phrase of surfers and X Games competitors, but it's rarely one that encapsulates a presentation by a politician. That's why Gov. Wolf's first budget address was so startling.

Pennsylvania's new governor threw down the gauntlet by telling legislators that if they want to change the way the commonwealth does business, they need to make major changes in multiple areas. Cherry-picking favorite proposals will not cut it.

There is much to be done in Pennsylvania, so let's start with taxes.

On the corporate side, the structure too often rewards all the wrong economic decisions. The business community has been clamoring for changes not just in the level of taxes - everyone wants a tax cut - but in the type of taxes paid. There has to be a better way, but what is it?

And does anyone really think that funding education largely through property taxes is the sanest way possible? Well, no, which is why there are all sorts of additional nuisance taxes. Even when school districts impose earned-income taxes, townships can get half the pie. Did the legislators who wrote this law have any contact with reality?

On the positive side, there is the state's income tax, which is one of the lowest in the nation. But no one is asking if the level makes financial or competitive sense, especially given the commonwealth's revenue needs. And why is it a flat tax, rather than the graduated tax that 33 states have? "It is what it is" is not a good explanation. Maybe a change is in order.

But these examples only encompass the revenue side of the budget. Spending is the other half. Start with education.

Seriously, are Pennsylvanians pleased with being near the bottom of the national rankings when it comes to state aid to education, but toward the top when it comes to dependence on local funding? Heard any suggestions how to change that, other than the governor's?

Spending on infrastructure is also suspect. We don't have a stable, long-term funding structure for infrastructure, especially highways. With hybrids, electric cars, and rising fuel-efficiency standards reducing gasoline-tax revenue, the current approaches make no sense. Suggestions, anyone?

Ira Winderman: March Madness? Riley cool to the notion - March 15, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

To his credit, this remains a time when Pat Riley continues with his cross-country due diligence, fanning out around the nation along with his staff to scout college tournaments.

Because even if his picks don't come in the lottery or the first-round, or the draft at all, he at least recognizes that there has to be youth in the pipeline.

But there also is a candor to his impatient approach: NBA success at a championship level comes from ready-to-win talent, from men, not kid stuff.

So he continues to pay through the draft for the 2010 moves that delivered LeBron James, Chris Bosh and two championships to the Miami Heat. And just over a month ago, he dealt two other potential lottery picks for the win-now promise of Goran Dragic, even without an accompanying free-agency promise from Dragic.

To some, it is the height of hubris, if not recklessness, to discount the very process that, under practically any definition, has allowed Riley to transport his championship legacy to South Florida.

Because if the Heat were not historically bad in 2002-03, there would not have been Dwyane Wade in the 2003 lottery.

And without Dwyane Wade, there would not have been confetti in 2006, '12 and '13.

But that also was back before NBA free agency became so transformative.

Before LeBron left from there for here, and then went back there again. Before clearing cap space became a way to create hope for the future without the accompanying pain of total tanking.

With their 2015 draft pick in danger of being forwarded to the Philadelphia 76ers this June, possibly in a lottery position, with it only protected through the first 10 selections, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was asked this past week about weighing tanking advantages.

Latest Range of Residential Fences by QS Fencing Company Now Helps Increase Aesthetic Appeal Amidst Rising House Prices - March 14, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) March 13, 2015

Housing prices in BC are on the rise in the first quarter of 2015, with the median price of a single-family house in Richmond, Burnaby and Vancouver exceeding $1 Million, reports the Vancouver Sun at http://goo.gl/UiXIAs. Despite soaring prices, the commercial activity in the housing market has not slacked. According to the Vancouver Sun, sales in all housing categories, including attached units, were 15 per cent above the 10-year sales average of the first quarter. In such conditions, homeowners looking to sell their houses can increase the aesthetic appeal of their property by implanting residential and ornamental fences. Luckily, QS Fencing's latest range of residential fences can help increase the aesthetic appeal of the property, helping owners make the most of the rising prices in the city.

Residential fencing comes in many different varieties, ranging from the traditional white picket fence to the more modern aluminum fences. Adding an ornamental fence installed by the professional and trained staff at QS Fencing Company can make the property more welcoming, accentuate the look of the garden or yard and add a modern touch to the overall look of the house. These fences can make the property look more beautiful and help the homeowners take advantage of the rising prices. Well-maintained and aesthetically appealing properties attract more real estate investors and often sell at higher prices than their bland and boring counterparts.

About QS Fencing Established in 2010, QS Fencing is a young family-owned business that aims to provide quality products and superior service. It is a Vancouver Fencing Company that is licensed and insured. All their employees are WCB insured as well. Fund-raisers raise speculation Cuomo may run for a third term - March 14, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gov. Cuomo is swinging for the financial fences just months after he won a second term and hauled in a record $44 million.

Cuomo has scheduled at least two fund-raisers, one April 7 for $15,000-a-head at the Mutual of America building on Park Avenue and another April 24 at Yankee Stadium when the Bronx Bombers play the Mets in the Subway Series. Tickets for that event are going for $5,000 a pop.

Word of the high-dollar fund-raisers comes as Cuomo is locked in tough negotiations with lawmakers to adopt a new state budget by April 1. His spending plan includes authorizing public financing of campaigns to reduce reliance on fat-cat contributions.

The early fund-raising shows that Cuomo is not closing the door on running for a third term.

Lobbyist James Featherstonhaugh said he received invitations for the events and expects the solicitations to keep coming.

    Cuomos campaign declined to comment.
