Albuquerque visitors bureau, innkeepers group mending fences - March 22, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By - Associated Press - Friday, March 20, 2015

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau and a metro-area hotel group appear to be mending fences.

The Albuquerque Journal (http://goo.gl/fxgHNX ) reports that tensions between the bureau and the Greater Albuquerque Innkeepers Association appear to have eased since the hotel group expressed no confidence in the top bureau executives.

The hotel groups board said Thursday it is working cooperatively with the bureau, and the two groups issued a statement saying their representatives had met and aired their concerns.

The statement also said the groups are now committed to working together.

The hotel groups board had sent the bureau a letter in February that said in part that some top bureau executives had been heard expressing negative attitudes toward the Albuquerque market.

Tony Paley: Trainer Enda Bolger has given On The Fringe the go-ahead to run in the Fox Hunters Chase over the Aintree Grand National fences in three weeks time.

The JP McManus-owned 10-year-old romped home in the Foxhunter Chase at the Cheltenham Festival by 17 lengths last week, and will now attempt to complete what has become a rare double.

Bolger told the Irish Independent: He came home in great nick. Hopefully we will be heading to Liverpool with him. We are giving him a fortnight chilling out and we will start him back for Liverpool then.

Liverpool was on our agenda at the beginning of the season because it looked like the obvious race for him. I dont know whether it is because he has got older and more experienced, but he definitely seems to be seeing out his races better this season than ever.

Never listen to tips. Put your fingers in your ears and believe your own eyes. Thats sound advice but in the first at Newbury we do have a horse in Champagne Express (2.10) who qualifies on both counts. Theres a lot of talk in Lambourn about how this was has been working well in preparation for todays run, while his victory in a very decent Chepstow maiden makes him the pick on the figures here.

The best bet of the day is on the level in the shape of Mignolino (3.55) at Lingfield. The David Barron runner is due to go up 6lb for his latest outing and considering the competitive nature of the event he is a fair price given what he has achieved.

    Our winners so far:

    Monday

    Pagham Belle 14-1

UN office to monitor implementation of safety measures at Pakistani schools – Pakistan – DAWN.COM - March 20, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

UNITED NATIONS: Former British prime minister and UN (United Nations) Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown said Wednesday that his office would closely monitor efforts, under the Safe Schools Initiative, to improve security at 1,000 schools in Pakistan.

He said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had pledged his support to the move.

We are going to monitor the implementation of safety measures at every school in Pakistan, Brown told a press conference at UN Headquarters in New York.

Security fences, metal detectors, armed guards and emergency communication systems are part of a package of safety measures for Pakistan's schools being proposed by the UN envoy.

The former UK prime minister has held talks with Pakistan's prime minister Nawaz Sharif last month about making schools safer after the Peshawar school massacre.

Brown said he wants to help schools stand up to terrorist violence.

The proposals follow an agreement between UN envoy Brown and Prime Minister Sharif to improve the safety of schools in Pakistan.

It follows a Taliban attack on a school in Peshawar in December in which more than 140 students and staff were killed.

Brown is promoting an innovative partnership which will deliver state-of-the-art technology to promote safe schools in Pakistan in cooperation with the government, UNICEF, the Global Business Coalition for Education and local NGOs.

Project is spearheaded by pro-bono technology contribution Perdictify, Me, a US-based data sciences and predictive analytics form, headed by Rob Burns, CEO and Dr. Zeeshan-ul-Hassan Usmani, Co-founder and Chief Data scientist.

Lawmakers urge Obama to mend fences with Netanyahu - March 20, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are urging President Obama to mend fences with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The relationship between the two leaders has soured in the run-up to the prime ministers election triumph this week. But members of Congress say its time to bury the hatchet.

Lawmakers say Obama should do so himself.

Now that he has been elected by the people in a free and fair election, the president should reach out to him. The president should say, OK, there are too many issues that are important to us, said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the chairman of the Armed Services Committee who lost to Obama in the 2008 presidential race.

Ill bet you that the president doesnt, just because of the way he has been behaving since the elections last November, he added.

Rep. Eliot Engel (N.Y.), the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said, My observation is that their disagreements are on policy as well as perhaps personality, and I would hope that both men would reach out to each other and work through it. ... The U.S.-Israel relationship is more important than the relationship between any two individuals.

Now that the election is over, continuing to mend tensions in the U.S.-Israel relationship needs to be a priority for everyone, regardless of political affiliation, said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee. I hope the new Israeli government can work toward that end.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters that Obama will call Netanyahu in coming days.

Earnest noted that, in previous elections, Obama has waited until the prime minister formed a new coalition government.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, who is eyeing a presidential bid in 2016, said it would be good for the president and prime minister to try to bury some animosities and move forward.

I was the Me410 A1 dropping that 500kg bomb, I #39;m yet to understand how the Sherman managed to survive from the 500kg explosion from that extreme close range.
