    VLOMO2012 - Day 29 - School or Prison
A fun game we like to play when driving across the US is "School or Prison?" in which we try to guess if a distant institutional structure is a school or a prison (or both). It #39;s often hard to tell until you get right up close. I often get fooled by the guard towers and electric fences and think it #39;s a prison.From:apperceptionsViews:3 0ratingsTime:00:28More inPeople Blogs

For Sale; Avon Gale 15.3hh Mare – Video - November 30, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

For Sale; Avon Gale 15.3hh Mare
Rider- Molly and some Matt Avon Gale aka Lily, she is a 15.3hh full up or a small 16hh TB X Gray mare. She has a lovely nature and is a pleasure to be around. Lily has manors to die for and a good attitude to her work. Lily has been out of #39;proper #39; work for around 2 months now and is just being brought back into work. She has started very well again. She needs a confident rider to bring her in to her best potential. She has competed in Showjumping competitions at local shows and has been placed nearly every time. She is still new to this way of life and does still need work putting into her to get her to reach her best. She will jump any hight put in front of her and with a bit of push on she will jump any fillers. She can be a nervous horse so does need someone who won #39;t loose there patients with her. She is a fun horse to be around and will bring her future owner lots of joy and fun. She has jumped show jumps and xc fences. She hacks alone or in company. She is fine with farrier, vet, dentist and to be clipped ect. She can come with or with out tack price will vary. Genuine horse with no vices. Verdict

Canaly, three times a winner over hurdles, ran well on his first two starts over fences at Kilbeggan but never got involved when favourite on a return visit in June. He may do better after a break but will need to as Make A Track and VESPER BELL look potentially useful performers over fences. The former has the experience of chasing having made a highly satisfactory start when just run out of it by Texas Jack over a trip too short at Naas. He'll be difficult to beat but Vesper Bell has the look of a smart recruit to fences. A winning bumper and successful in a maiden hurdle, he produced a superb effort when narrowly beaten by stablemate Marasonnien in a Grade 1 over timber at the Punchestown Festival and can make a winning start to his new career. Multiple point-to-point winner Clonbeale Vacation may do best of the remainder.

Make A Track (IRE) 6-1 (11-12) Tracked leader in 2nd, disputed 5 out and led after next, strongly pressed approaching last and headed early run-in, kept on under pressure but not match winner, 2nd of 9, 1l behind Texas Jack (11-12) at Naas 2m 3f beg chs.

Vesper Bell (IRE) 14-1 (11-10) Soon led and disputed, ridden and headed entering straight, no extra before last, kept on same pace, 2nd of 12, 3l behind Marasonnien (11-10) at Punchestown 3m nov hdl Grade 1 (1) hvy in Apr.

Canaly (IRE) 9-4fav (11-12) Soon towards rear, slow jump and pushed along 6th, slightly hampered 5 out, soon no impression and pulled up before last, in a race won by Sin Palo (11-12) at Kilbeggan 3m 1f beg chase sft in Jun, 14 ran.

Hasty Times (IRE) 16-1 (11-7) Chased leaders, off the pace, 8th 5 out, no extra next, 11th of 13, well behind Snooze (11-9) at Cork 2m 5f beg chs sft.

Clonbeale Vacation (IRE) 5-2 (12-0) Chsd ldrs, disp from 5th until ld 16th, jnd aftr 5out, cl 2nd from 4out, chall last & ld cl home, won at Athlacca 3m ire ptp in May beating Nhakira (11-4) by hd, 10 ran.

Stony Grey Soil (IRE) 33-1 (11-12) Waited with off the pace, no danger and kept on same pace from before 4 out, 6th of 9, well behind Shrapnel (11-12) at Fairyhouse 2m hdl sft.

Sword Fish (IRE) 40-1 (11-12) Always towards rear, 8th of 12, well behind El Fontan (11-12) at Punchestown 2m 4f beg chs hvy.

Capal Dubh Alainn (IRE) 25-1 (11-7) Always behind, completely tailed off, 7th of 12, well behind Back In Focus (11-12) at Listowel 2m 6f beg chs hvy in Sep.

Closer fences will help Mariners with free agents, but money still talks loudest - November 30, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

Among the many benefits cited by the Mariners when they announced that the Safeco fences were moving in, making Seattle a more palatable destination for free agents was relatively high on the list.

We'll soon get an indication if that will indeed be the case. The signing season is heating up, with B.J. Upton the latest to come off the market after signing with Atlanta (five years, $75 million) on Tuesday. With the winter meetings commencing this weekend in Nashville, it shouldn't be long until the rest of the names on the list start to make their decisions. Another thing to keep in mind is Friday's deadline (9 p.m. Pacific time) for teams to tender contracts to their arbitration-eligible players. The so-called "non-tender" list will provide a new pool of free agents, and allow general managers further clarification of the market place. (The Mariners have five players who must be tendered: John Jaso, Shawn Kelley, Josh Kinney, Brendan Ryan and Jason Vargas. I'd say the only potential non-tender candidates are Kelley and Kinney).

The Mariners have been linked, for obvious reasons, to most of the offensive players on the market, from catchers like Mike Napoli and Russell Martin to a slew of outfielders, of which there are still many interesting names who remain unsigned.

But there is a key question that goes beyond pinpointing whom the Mariners will target. And that is: Will free agents target them? The Mariners are hoping that the new configuration, which is designed to make Safeco a more forgiving ballpark, particularly for right-handed hitters, will make them a more attractive destination.

Let's face it -- the Mariners haven't had a lot to offer free agents in recent years, particularly hitters. They've been non-contenders, for the most part, and Safeco has earned a warranted reputation as Death Valley for sluggers. This study from the upcoming Bill James Handbook 2013 shows just how hard it has been to hit at Safeco. Since 2010, Safeco Field has been the most pitcher-friendly park in the major leagues (another way to put that is the least hitter-friendly park in the major leagues). It has also yielded the fewest homers in the American League in that span (ranking third in the majors behind the AT&T Park in San Francisco and Marlins Park in Miami). One interesting tidbit uncovered in this study, which should make the Mariners sit up and take notice, is that Citi Park, the Mets' ballpark, became an even harder place to score runs after moving the fences in last season (even though home runs went up). That's a topic to explore at another time.

Will the new alignment at Safeco lure free agents? Over the past few weeks, I've posed that question to numerous agents. After all, they're the ones who do the negotiating and have intimate knowledge of the desires, and fears, of their clients. All are prominent names in the industry, but I granted anonymity to ensure the comments were frank.

I asked one agent if he's ever had a client tell him he didn't want to play in Seattle because he couldn't hit home runs there.

"Yes, I have,'' he replied. "I hear that about San Diego even more so. It's way worse than Seattle."

Every agent I talked to, in fact, confirmed that in the past there has been at least some reluctance -- ranging all the way from concern to dismissing the Mariners out of hand -- based on the perception that it's not a good place for hitters.

"They saw what happened to guys like Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson, the frustration they experienced,'' said one. "They didn't want to see their stats shrivel away."
