FREDERICK, Md., Sept. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- When it comes to your deer fence, nothing protects like steel, particularly if your property is as overrun with rabbits, raccoons, groundhogs, and other smaller pests as deer. While polypropylene is very resistant to chewing, with enough abuse from tiny teeth, it will breakwith this in mind, DeerBusters.com is now offering a chew-proof alternative to customers seeking the strongest possible protection against deer and rodent activity.
Steel core cable is the answer to fence and tension system damage caused by rodent chewing. Like the monofilament wire generally recommended by DeerBusters for most fencing applications, steel core wire is used at the top and bottom edge of poly deer fence to hold it upright and taut, creating both a professional and attractive look and a more effective barrier against jumping. It also tightens and reinforces the bottom edge that tends to suffer the most damage from rodents and deerdeer frequently try to dig or crawl under fences before risking a jump. Unlike monofilament, however, steel core will never break or snap because of chewing and digging. The secret of the strength is all in the name: at the center of the cable is a completely chew-proof core of galvanized aircraft cable, braided into seven strands of seven wires. The outside of the wire is a black PVC coating that both protects the steel from weather damage and helps it match the poly deer fence.
DeerBusters' new steel core cable is installed just as standard monofilament is installed, utilizing monofilament connection sleeves, connector clips, Gripples, self-locking ties, and round tighteners. Every length of steel core offered at DeerBusters.com is 8-gauge and compatible with 8-gauge connectors and tighteners. It is available in lengths of 333 feet, 666 feet, 1,000 feet, and 3,000 feet.
Steel core tension wire is recommended for any area experiencing high rodent traffic or where fencing is frequently damaged. DeerBusters suggests pairing steel core tension systems with maximum strength poly fencing and steel web rodent control fencing for the most effective installation possible. While it may only be necessary to install steel core at the bottom edge of a fence to control chewing, it should also be considered for use at the top of the fence in wooded areas where low branches may collapse onto the fence. For even more support, install a third line of steel core wire along the center of the fence to absorb impact from deer running into it.

CUMMING, Ga. -- "I've heard for years there were bears in the area, but I always told people they were crazy," Jeff Adler said. "Then I saw them."
Adler was driving home from a restaurant near the intersection of Post and Major Roads near the Polo Golf Country Club neighborhood when he spotted an adult and two juvenile black bears climbing a fence into a backyard. He followed them through the neighborhood as they moved through several backyards.

"As I was trying to get ahead of them, I saw a guy working on sprinklers. When I told him the bears were coming, he looked at me like I was crazy," he said. "But then, he screamed: Here they come!"
Adler said he followed the bears from a safe distance in his car until they went into an area of the neighborhood without roads. He called 911, and was told they would contact the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
DNR spokesman Melissa Cummings told 11Alive's Julie Wolfe they currently have no plans to trap and remove bears in the area. They've been in touch with local authorities, but advised them to allow the bears to keep moving as they work their way to a more appropriate habitat.
To keep the bears moving, it's important people in the area take steps to make sure they don't unknowingly invite the bears to stay. They suggest the following tips:
- Do not feed or toss food to a bear - Keep children away from the animal - Keep pets indoors or in a controlled environment (remember, these bears can climb fences!) - Do not approach a bear - Never corner a bear - Never run from a bear, back away slowly and make lots of noise
Cummings also said easily accessible garbage is irresistible to a hungry black bear. Homeowners in the area where the bears were spotted should consider security garbage containers inside the garage and putting them on the curb the morning of pickup instead of the night before.
"Ideally, you want the bear to keep moving," Cummings said. "So, by making any non-natural food sources unavailable and by not cornering the bear (up a tree or otherwise), the animal will keep moving until it is back in a more appropriate habitat."

PETALING JAYA: From jabbering geese to electric fences, Malaysians are resorting to extraordinary measures to ensure security due to their heightened fear of increasing crime. Electric fences are becoming an added feature atop walls of homes in gated communities and bungalows, designed to shock intruders with non-lethal doses of between 5,000 and 10,000 volts. Another less drastic measure is the Alarm Spray, which integrates a powerful pepper spray and motion detector. There has also been an increase in demand for trained guard dogs such as Belgium and German shepherds. Some Klang Valley residents, however, are turning to geese to protect their homes. However, the noisy birds, which are very territorial, also serve as an early warning system and a deterrent to human intruders.

Electric fences are becoming an added feature atop walls of homes in gated communities and bungalows, designed to shock intruders with non-lethal doses of between 5,000 and 10,000 volts.
Teoh Beng Teik, whose company installs electric fences, said he had seen inquiries increase by up to 70 per cent in the last six months.
There are more people looking into it, including individual homeowners, developers and residents associations, he said, adding that homeowners could expect to pay between 18,000 ringgit (US$5,471) and 30,000 ringgit for electric fences around a small- or medium-sized bungalow.

The EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) has called on all parties to show restraint and focus on local communities concerns as an argument broke out between a local Georgian resident and an official from breakaway South Ossetia after Russian troops resumed installation of fences at the administrative boundary line in the vicinity of the village of Ditsi on September 17.
An ad hoc meeting between the officials from Georgia and the breakaway region, facilitated by EUMM, was held on spot.
As it seems there was certain verbal argument between a local resident and representatives of the Russian border guards and so called border guard service of [breakaway South Ossetia]. Such incidents should be prevented and we discussed it, Kakhaber Kemoklidze of the Georgian Interior Ministrys department of information and analyses said after the meeting.
Kemoklidze, who is a long-time participant of Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), also said that Russian troops are not going to give up installation of fences.
Locals in the village of Ditsi have complained that installation of fences was cutting access to a nearby cemetery.
At noon today, the local residents in the vicinity of Ditsi expressed concern, as the installation of fences resumed at the Administrative Boundary Line with South Ossetia. EUMM has been on the spot throughout the day, EUMM said.
Since May 2013, inhabitants of Ditsi have repeatedly complained about the continuous installation of fences and consequences relating to their freedom of movement and livelihood such as lack of access to agricultural land and water, it said.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry released a statement on September 17 expressing deep concern over illegal actions of the Russian occupying forces across the Tskhinvali regions occupation line.
The Georgian government condemns such illegal actions, which have negative impact on humanitarian condition of the local population and which significantly restrict their internationally recognized rights, including freedom of movement, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
It also said that persisting critical condition in the occupied regions highlights the need for setting up international security and human rights monitoring mechanisms. The Georgian Foreign Ministry has also called on the international community to duly assess the ongoing situation in Georgia's occupied territories and take relevant measures to put an end to Russia's illegal activities.
