Fences stolen from Letchworth church play area - January 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The paddock at Kings Community Church in Letchworth GC is used mainly as a safe play area for children.

James Scott Thursday, January 30, 2014 8:31 AM

A minister has been left disappointed after fences were stolen from a childrens play area connected with a church.

Reverend David Wheatley and his wife returned from holiday last Thursday to find wooden fencing and gates had been stolen from the childrens play area attached to Kings Community Church in Whiteway, Letchworth GC.

Three gates, as well as four panels and posts, had been forcibly removed from the paddock which is used mainly by children for playgroup events.

Hertfordshire police confirmed they are investigating a theft which occurred at some point between midday on Wednesday, January 22, and 1pm on Thursday, January 23.

Rev Wheatley said: As a church we are disappointed that someone would damage the childrens safe area we are not angry, we are disappointed. Mainly because this area is set aside for the children of the community to use.

I dont think it was vandalism as the fences are 3ft high and 6ft long. You certainly couldnt run off with them. But we have had our drainpipes vandalised by kids in the past. I kept repairing them, but they kept damaging them.

We also had to replace the front door as they seemed to enjoy smashing the glass on that too. Installing CCTV cameras might have to be the next move to prevent this happening in the future.

    Verdict

Winning point-to-pointer and bumper Carrigeen Lonicera has been very highly tried over fences and this should be more her class. Willie Mullins' Chiltern Hills has produced nothing in her two starts over fences but Hidden Horizons scored over 3m over hurdles and should appreciate stepping up to this trip on her third start over fences. ICHEY FEET looked like a real staying type when runner-up to the promising Flaming Dawn over hurdles at Tramore and has the credentials to do well over the bigger obstacles so gets the nod in a tricky contest. Sugar Bullet has plenty of experience over fences but doesn't appear to have improved and Milestone Miss is still a maiden over hurdles after 15 starts.

Fence plan to stop garden trespassers - January 29, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

John Curtis, head of the Community Interest Company that runs Ventnor Botanic Garden.

FENCES will be erected at Ventnor Botanic Garden to stop people sneaking in without paying.

Businessman John Curtis, who heads the community interest company which owns the Isle of Wight attraction, has been shocked at the number of people avoiding paying the 6.75 admission fee.

With annual estimated visitor totals at just 55,000 well below the current number needed to break even he has reluctantly decided to strengthen fences.

He was finally persuaded following an altercation between a trespasser and a legitimate visitor in which the visitor was upset by being cajoled for being honest.

"People would not expect to be able to gain admission to other Island attractions without paying," he said.

A 50-year masterplan for the gardens development was expected to include initial submissions for grant aid, philanthropic support and corporate sponsorship totalling up to 3 million.

Mr Curtis said he had pumped in capital investment of more than 300,000 in 18 months more than the Isle of Wight Council did in the preceding ten years.

Cong confident of mending fences with National Conference - January 29, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Despite the simmering differences between the Congress and its ally in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference, the Congress today appeared confident that the problems would be resolved soon. The two parties who are allies since 2008, are divided over the proposed restructuring of administrative units in the state.

While Chief minister Omar Abdullah had dug in his heels over the National Conferences intent to set up 700 new administrative units in the state, the Congress he alleged was stalling it. Omar Abdullah was reportedly contemplating stepping down if this move was thwarted.

Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala today stated, That's the beauty of democracy. Allies are entitled to their opinion. We'll sort this out when we sit together.

Till late last night Congress senior leaders met in the capital to make headway on the issue.

Tara Chand Sharma, a senior Congress leader and deputy chief minister of the state, who attended the meeting told PTI that the Congress was now contemplating 2000 or so administrative units. The Mushtaq Ganaie Committee had recommended 700 new administrative units but the figure may go up to 2000 or more, he said. The committee had proposed reorganising the structure to bring administration to people's doorsteps.

NC chief Farooque Abdullah also a Union Minister, told journalists that Omar is said to be thinking of resigning over the issue and would take the final call on the alliance. "This is not going to benefit one party but credit will go to both the parties," Abdullah said.

There are some people with vested interests who are trying to create mistrust between the coalition partners, added Abdullah. In the 87-member assembly while the NC has 28 members, the Congress has 17 MLAs.
