After a long, unapologetic effort to defeat Tea Party and other so-called unelectable candidates in GOP primaries, the Washington establishment will likely need Tea Party voters in November to help swing several tight Senate races and win control of the upper chamber.
Republicans appear poised to win three of the net total six seats required to take the Senate. But they are locked in six other, too-close-to call contests in their effort to win the remaining three seats.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee on Friday dismissed the notion that party voters are not united behind their candidates.
Can you point to a race ? Its a false narrative, said group spokeswoman Brook Hougsen, who cited a recent George Washington University survey that shows Republicans with a 16-point advantage over Democrats (52-to-36 percent) in a generic poll on competitive Senate races.
Kevin Broughton, spokesman for the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund, a political action committee, singled out a few races, particularly in Kansas and Mississippi, but suggested his troops will rally for the general election.
While Tea Party people and conservative activists might have a bad taste in their mouth, the goal is to keep Barack Obama from making more bad appointments to the federal appeals courts, he said. And the way you stop that is to take away (Nevada Sen.) Harry Reids Democratic majority and his nuclear option.
Broughton said they will focus on such grassroots efforts as get-out-the-vote, instead of buying TV or other media spots.
The establishment and its deep-pocket supporters made clear from the start of the 2014 election cycle that their goal was to field a full squad of electable candidates, thus avoiding past mistakes, and to weed out anybody who might get elected and undermine their legislative agenda.

Trainer Jonjo O'Neill told Channel 4 Racing that the unbeaten six-year-old has yet to be schooled over the bigger obstacles but he does intend to send him over a few fences when there is sufficient give in the ground.
More Of That beat Annie Power in a thrilling finish to last season's stayers' crown marking him out as a future star.
"You'd love a yard full of horses like him," said O'Neill.
"He never does a lot on the gallops, he just goes through the motions. You never really notice him but he's always there at the end.
"We haven't schooled him yet as the ground has been too quick, we'll give him a pop over a few when the ground is right.
"Nobody is in any rush to make a decision.
"I just want to keep him fit. He's in great form and is a very happy horse at the moment.
"As long as he gets back to Cheltenham in one piece I'm not really bothered if it's for a race over hurdles or fences, I just want him to get there."

D.C. police are looking for a woman who left a Northeast alley including homes, garages and fences coated in graffiti tag.
Perhaps you know her? She goes by Ms Behave.
At least thats the tag left behind in her aerosol-fumed wake.
Surveillance video released by the Metropolitan Police Department shows a man and woman ambling through an alleyway and the woman plucking a a can of spray paint from her purse. The man glances up and down a nearby street, stopping to sip a drink while keeping lookout as the woman begins tagging a stone wall.
The video captures the woman spray painting her signature on fences and a stone wall in the 600 block of 6th Street in Northeast, but police say the pair is likely responsibly for far more damage.
Residents across three city blocks awoke Sept. 12 to discover the graffiti tag Ms Behave and Drip scrawled on fences, garage doors and even the sides of their homes, MPD Detective Joe BeMiller said.
This is pretty massive, he said of the damage.
While the womans accomplice isnt seen tagging any property on the surveillance video, investigators believe he left his mark with the tag Drip, which was written atop a D.C. flag symbol.
Police did not have a cost estimate for the damage, which they say spanned three separate blocks.
