So youre planning on paving your driveway, but youre unsure as to how much you need to budget for it? It can be difficult to find information on the cost of paving a driveway online and this is due to the fact that every job is so different it can be hard to give a price guide. To help you get an idea of the cost you can expect to pay when paving your driveway, we have written this pricing guide with descriptions and costs of the different paving options we offer.
At Driveway Paving, we can cater for all your driveway paving needs. We have a huge range of options for your driveway, so we can guarantee we will have something to suit your taste and budget.
As your paving contractor, below is a list of some of the Driveway Paving options that we can offer you:
Cobblelock Paving A very popular and affordable driveway paving option. Comes in a wide range of colours, sizes and designs. We use Kilsaranas our cobblelock supplier as they are renowned for their high quality block paving products. For your peace of mind, they also offer a 25 year guarantee on all of their cobblelock products. The cost of a cobblelock driveway will depend on a number of factors such as size, existing ground, access, cart away etc but as a rough guide our prices range from 55 to 70 per square metre for standard cobblelock.
Granite finish cobblelock costs 10 extra per square metre. This includes everything from start to finish. We supply the cobblelock, prepare the area, complete the job and cart away and rubbish or debris upon completion.
Natural Stone Paving A very long lasting and maintenance free option for your driveway. These driveways rank at the higher end of the pricing scale due to the extra labour involved in their installation. However, the benefits to the consumer far outweigh the higher initial investment. Natural stone is hard wearing and is installed on a wet cement base with wet cement joints to ensure durability and ease of maintenance. The cost of a paving a driveway with natural stone depends on the type of stone you require. Below we give a breakdown of the different types and costs. They range from 75-110 per square metre.
Granite Paving Very hard wearing product that will look as good as new for years to come. Granite is the most durable and low maintenance option of all natural stone paving. It will cost you between 90 and 110 per square metre to pave your granite driveway.
Sandstone Paving Very popular due to its huge variety of colours to choose from. Each sandstone slab has unique hues and tones giving this stone a natural, earthy look. A sandstone driveway will set you back between 85 and 95 per square metre.
Limestone Paving Very hard wearing paving option. Available in black, yellow and grey. A limestone driveway will cost you between 85 and 95 per square metre, the same as sandstone.
Quartz driveway A top quality stone; for a little extra cost you can have add a classy look to your driveway. A beautiful and durable stone. Quartz is another very high quality option and will cost between 110 and 120 per square metre.
Porcelain Driveway: Another top quality product. The cost of paving a driveway with porcelain slabs will bebetween 110 and 120 per square metre.
Gravel/pebble driveways A low budget option for your driveway. Comes in a variety of sizes and colours to suit your home. A gravel driveway is a great way to create an attractive driveway on a lower budget. Depending on the existing ground and what type pf pebble you choose, most options will cost between 45 and 65 per square metre.
Tarmacadam a clean, low maintenance option for your driveway. Popular for large areas. This job will set you back between 50 and 70 per square metre.
Concrete A very hard wearing material; a maintenance free and long lasting driveway option. Once a concrete job is done its done for life. The cost of paving a driveway with concrete will be between 50 and 70 per square metre.
As you can see a paving project could cost you anywhere from 45 to 120 per square metre, depending on which option you choose.
The price charged will depend on what we find when we view the job. The existing ground material, rubbish to be taken away, the existing levels, drainage required, paving choice and if you require a design in the paving area will all affect the price charged.
All prices will be quoted before we start work and the price quoted is the price you pay. We dont charge any hidden extras.
This is a rough guide of our prices based on an average sized driveway. For large areas their are further savings to be made so always call and ask us for a quote.
We hope we have helped you to understand what you can expect when considering the cost of paving a driveway.

Everybody always wants to know what does it cost to pave my driveway or what does it cost to pave my parking lot?
So if you are looking to get a ball park estimate on how much it will cost to pave your driveway or parking we can can help give you good idea here.
1st of all please note that asphalt paving is substantially cheaper than concrete. Asphalt paving is close to 1/3 of the cost of concrete.
1 Rip Out The Old Driveway or Grass Smooth Surface
We would install 6 inches of stone 2 inches of binder, which is a binder course and and 1 1/2 inch of the smooth stuff which is called ID2 top. This ranges about $3.50 a square foot for everything.
2 Ripping out old driveway and Hauling Away
Installing a stone base the 3 inches of ID2 top. This ranges around $2.50 a square foot
3 Resurfacing Existing
Basically we would cut out in front of your garage. Then add 2 inches on top of your entire driveway. Then as we meet your garage we would use the cut out to bring it level with your garage. This costs about $1.50 per square foot.
If there are a lot of cracks or it is rutted out or there are dips in the driveway, that means the base is bad. We will then need to rip it out and install a new stone base to give a solid starting point.
We understand most people want the lowest cost or to at least have confidence you ate getting good value for the money your spending.
Of course each job has its own set of variables that influence the price. Give us a call or use our contact form and we will be happy to get your a quote tailored to your exact needs. Thanks WIllie

Asphalt vs. Concrete Driveways -
October 4, 2017 by
Mr HomeBuilder
In this article, you'll learn
So youre in the market for a new driveway or perhaps youre building a new home and need to decide how to pave your driveway. Either way, youll probably have two traditional options to choose from- concrete or asphalt. They are similar but have key differences you should consider before making a decision. These considerations include aesthetics, climate, maintenance, cost, and restrictions.
Both concrete and asphalt must have well compacted bases of gravel before application. Both take time to cure before they can be driven on, although concrete takes several days while asphalt takes several hours. In addition, both are made from the same general material- stone and sand. However, the difference comes from the adhesive.
In asphalt the adhesive is tar and in concrete its cement.
These two substrates give asphalt and concrete their unique characteristics. They also affect costs, durability and maintenance. Tar, while more inexpensive than cement is softer and degrades easier and faster. However, with proper maintenance this negative attribute of asphalt can be diminished.
As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is true for driveways as well. Some people like the look and concept of the driveway being an extension of the road and therefore have asphalt driveways. The differences between asphalt and concrete are as different as black and white, literally. However, there are some different things that can be done to both asphalt and concrete to get away from the traditional black or off-white colors.
As a general rule of thumb, concrete is an easier material to work with to get different finishes. Concrete can be stained or tinted to an array of colors and can be stained differently in a single driveway to get unique patterns. Concrete can also be stamped into different designs, etched or engraved to get different looks and it can have different finishes such as brushed or exposed aggregate. All these different options can create a plethora of unique options when designing your driveway.
Asphalt is more limited. Since asphalt must be rolled and compressed, there is little in the way of unique finishes. Moreover, until recently, there was little option in color apart from standard black. However, there are now tints that can be added at the end of as a sealant or even integral coloring that is added during mixing.
For those who live in areas that have either very cold winters or very warm summers, climate can be an important consideration. Concrete has the tendency to crack and suffer from frost heaving in cold and freezing winters. Furthermore, salt used for ice melting can create pits in concrete leaving blotches across the driveway. Alternatively, asphalt has issues in hotter climates. The tar in asphalt can become soft in the high heat of summer and can become tacky and even deform in some cases. It is important to talk to a reputable contractor about the effects the local climate will have on both asphalt and concrete prior to finalizing any decisions.
There are definite differences when considering maintenance. After about six months to a year after installation, asphalt driveways should be sealed. Asphalt should then be subsequently sealed every three-five years afterwards. This can be done by anyone and does not require any special tools or machinery. Sealing the asphalt will extend the life of the driveway, which when properly maintained may last upwards of 30 years.
Concrete driveways do not necessarily need to be sealed to last upwards of 50 years. However, sealing a concrete driveway can preserve the look and finish. Concrete driveways will stain easier than asphalt (although sealing will help) and will require a degreaser to remove any oil based stains that may occur.
Both asphalt and concrete driveway cracks can be repaired. However, asphalt cracks are easier to repair and blend into the original. Meanwhile, concrete repairs are more obvious due to weathering. An added plus with asphalt is that it can be resurfaced fairly inexpensively leaving a brand new top coat if the old layer falls into disrepair, which is impossible for concrete.
Ignoring any maintenance costs, asphalt is generally much cheaper to install than concrete. On average, the cost per square foot for asphalt will run between $2.50 to $4.00. Fluctuations in crude oil prices can cause fluctuations in asphalt prices but the price will remain around this range. Concrete, on the other hand, can run between $4.00 to $6.00 per square foot for basic installation and can cost more depending on different finishes and detail. Its not unheard of to have a stained concrete driveway with a smooth finish cost over $15.00 per square foot.
Finally, before you get too far, you may want to check with any local building codes to see if there are any specifications. For those that live in a development, your HOA may have very specific restrictions on color, finish or even type of driveway material you can use.

Is your sidewalk a hazard? Has your driveway seen better days? Cracks in concrete happen over time, and they're sometimes difficult to troubleshoot, especially if the problem is due to a tree root or uneven ground.
During this hour ofTalk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe talks with home improvement expert Bill McAnally about concrete, asphalt and other paving solutions for your driveway, sidewalk, patio or paving project.
McAnally says that it's important to think about how paving connects to stairs, as tripping hazards are a real problem for some people when they try to fix cracks.
"A lot of times what people dont look at is that when our sidewalks and driveways butt up against the house, they lead to steps. If you step off your steps and you are going nine inches instead of seven, or five instead of seven, youre going to either jar your back or trip. You may get used to it, but visitors might not. You have to think, 'What will this affect?'"
McAnally also answers listener questions during the show.
