A bridge demolition project will close the 405 Freeway late Saturday and early Sunday, forcing motorists to detour around a typically busy interchange at the Los Angeles-Orange County border.

The freeway will be closed in both directions between Valley View Street and Studebaker Road from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Seal Beach Boulevard over the freeway will also be closed. And the westbound 22 Freeway will be closed from Valley View Street to the northbound 405.

The overnight closure is necessary, officials say, so that crews can demolish the eastern half of the Seal Beach bridge. The western half of the bridge was demolished in August and has since been reconstructed and opened to traffic.

The closure is part of the Orange County Transit Agency and Caltrans' West County Connectors Project, a $277-million effort that will connect carpool lanes on the 405, 605 and 22 freeways and construct a second carpool lane on the 405 between the 605 and the 22.

KNOXVILLE (WATE) Demolition crews tore down two buildings Saturday next to Saint John's Episcopal Church in downtown Knoxville.

Knox Heritage and neighbors tried to save the buildings on Walnut Street, but the city approved the demolition last month.

The church plans to build a walkway and landscaping on the lots.
