It looks unlikely the four homes earmarked for demolition will be taken down before Christmas as originally hoped.
A spokesman for Great Yarmouth Borough Council, which has stepped in to pay for the demolition of four Hemsby chalets after asbestos was found inside one, said: There are four properties at the Marrams which currently require demolition two have fallen down the cliff face and the other two are seriously undermined, as a result of coastal erosion.
The homes are all private properties. However, the borough council will carry out the demolition on behalf of the residents, as asbestos is visible in one of the properties, which could pose a health risk if not removed and disposed of in a controlled and approved fashion.
The other properties are in too dangerous positions, at current, for thorough investigations to be carried out, but may also contain asbestos. The owners of the properties have agreed to the demolition works, which will be undertaken under the supervision of a specialist asbestos removal firm.
Contractor, ID Asbestos, has been appointed and visited the site yesterday (Thursday) to take samples of the materials they have got to handle. They have sent it away for sampling to determine what type of asbestos is present before they proceed. It is unlikely the results will come back before Christmas.
And due to the limited number of working days before December 25, it is also considered uneconomic to hire the plant equipment required before Christmas, as the borough council would have to pay for it to stand redundant and unused over the festive period.

Demolition of bridge underway -
December 20, 2013 by

Crews on Monday, Dec. 16, began demolishing the north side of the Manning Avenue bridge, a job that will take at least two weeks, said J. Kerry Theran, the senior engineer on the project.
One excavator with an attached hydraulic sheer its head and jaws resembling something from a Jurassic Park movie started tearing out concrete and steel on the east end of the bridge.
Another excavator with a hydro hammer also broke up concrete on the bridge.
Crews will knock down the roadway on the north side and then begin demolishing the nine concrete piers and two concrete abutments that undergird the roadway.
To prepare for Mondays work, crews used saws last weekend to cut into the deck of the roadway.
The cuts made the length and width of the deck were designed to allow the contractor to take out the bridge in smaller sections, making it an easier and safer job, Theran said.
Safety is a top priority, he said.
Its why a civil engineer certified in California had to develop a demolition plan for the bridge, Theran said.
In addition, two workmen are stationed below the bridge as spotters to keep anyone from walking under it as the excavators tore into the span.
Once the roadway, piers and abutments are gone, crews will move to the next phase of the project: Installing new steel-reinforced, concrete columns and abutments to support the north side of the new bridge.

Oak Ridge, Tenn. Today, the Department of Energy announced that it has completed demolition of the K-25 gaseous diffusion building, the largest facility in the DOE complex. The five year demolition project was completed ahead of schedule and all debris shipments are expected to be completed in spring 2014.
The K-25 building, located at the East Tennessee Technology Park formerly known as the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, was built in 1943 as part of the Manhattan Project. At the time of the Manhattan Project, K-25 was the worlds largest building under one roof. Today the Department of Energy has successfully completed its largest-ever demolition project.
Today marks a tremendous accomplishment for the American people advancing our commitment to the safe and complete cleanup of former Manhattan Project sites. said Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman. While there is still important clean-up work to do, completing the demolition of the K-25 gaseous diffusion building and doing so ahead of schedule and under budget is a testament to the outstanding Oak Ridge workforce.
The K-25 building operated until 1964, producing enriched uranium for defense and commercial purposes. During the past decades, as the facility deteriorated, its demolition was considered among the highest priorities for the environmental cleanup program in Oak Ridge. With the demolition of the K-25 building, only two of the five original gaseous diffusion buildings remain. The East Tennessee Technology Park will now be converted into a private sector industrial park.
The K-25 building demolition project began in December 2008, when Bechtel Jacobs Company LLC, completed demolition of the west wing. URS|CH2M Oak Ridge, LLC, or UCOR, took over the project in August 2011 and successfully completed demolition of the buildings east wing and north end.
Im proud to have been part of this historic achievement, said Leo Sain, UCOR President and Project Manager. This project was a massive undertaking involving many people. We are pleased that UCOR, working hand-in-hand with DOE, was able to safely complete the demolition and bring this project full circle.
Although the K-25 building demolition is complete, the historical significance of the facility will live on. In 2012, the DOE, Tennessee State Historic Preservation, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, City of Oak Ridge, East Tennessee Preservation Alliance and other consulting parties finalized a plan that lays out a multi-year plan to commemorate the K-25 complex, which contained more than 500 facilities including the K-25 building.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Energy Department will construct a three-story equipment building that recreates a scale representation of the gaseous diffusion technology and contains authentic equipment used in the original facility. The Departments Office of Environmental Management also agreed to display equipment, artifacts, oral histories, photographs and videos a K-25 History Center on site. Also, the Department provided a $500,000 grant to preserve the Alexander Inn, a historic structure in Oak Ridge where visiting scientists and dignitaries stayed during their visits to the area.

Teardown underway at the projects on Wednesday. (credit: Stephanie Davis/WWJ)
DETROIT (WWJ) Crews have begun the second and final phase of demolition of the defunct Brewster-Douglas housing project on the citys east side.
Known to most Detroit residents as the Brewster projects, the brick, mortar and steel condo-like units, six-story buildings and four 14-story towers had been one of the oldest public housing projects in the country.
Famed Motown singers Mary Wilson and Diana Ross of the Supremes lived there, and boxing champ Joe Louis practiced at the Brewster rec center.
Rosana Johnson, who lived in the Douglas project for years, watched as demolition continued on Wednesday.
It was a community where people came together to help one another, she told WWJ Newsradio 950sStephanie Davis. Thats not something that you see a lot of now, but thats what we did.
It wasnt just a place where people lives,Johnson said. People lived here, worked here, played here, and died here, of course.
All remaining buildings, located off I-75 near Mack, will be torn down.
Author and historian Ken Coleman of Detroit said, for many, its a bittersweet sight.
Certainty, if you are 70 or 80 years old, you remember a groundbreaking was held here in 1935 that included Elenore Roosevelt, he said. But certainly in latter years the last 20 or 30 years for the most part, most of the development has been an eyesore.

We cant interfere in court cases, and its up to the Spanish authorities to provide clarity on the legal uncertainty facing many British homeowners in Spain.
We meet and lobby the Spanish authorities at all levels and we will continue to do so.
He said the Foreign Office was aware of three British-owned properties that have been demolished because they were deemed illegal, one in 2008 and two this year.
The Spanish government was accused last month of pushing illegally built homes to British buyers.
Spain has approximately three million homes standing empty due to the property crash in 2007. Up to a third of these properties may have been built illegally due to corruption in the construction industry and town halls.
A British couple, John and Jan Brooks, had their dream villa bulldozed in October despite a court ruling that they were innocent victims of a corruption scandal.
The Foreign Office has produced a guide on how Britons can avoid being ripped off when buying a property in Spain.

Demolition in Detroit is no laughing matter - thousands of abandoned homes and buildings need to be knocked down, but the city's inability to remove the blighted housing stock has made it a laughingstock to some.
John Robinson moved next door to a house that was already burned out and abandoned, but he figured everything would be okay because the city of Detroit had been paid to demolish it, per a notice Robinson spotted on the front door of the abandoned house.
Unfortunately, Detroit officials say there wasn't enough money to do the job and told Fox 2's M.L. Elrick in July they'd try to find a way to get it knocked down still. Five months later - still no avail - and M.L. goes looking for answers.
VIDEO: Click on the video player above to watch M.L.'s report, or read the story below _____________
ELRICK: Hey, David Bell. M.L. Elrick, Fox 2. Did you ever hear the story about the house that got paid to be knocked down, but never got knocked down?
BELL: I'm not sure what you're talking about.
By day Dave Bell runs the city's demolition program. By night he's been known to do a little standup comedy.
But there's nothing funny about this story -- even though it's a farce.
ROBINSON: We were really blessed to be able to find this home. Then you look over here.

A new demolition date for the stack has been set for early next year after the NSW planning department signed off on Port Kembla Copper's plans to bring it down.
A new demolition date for the stack has been set for early next year after the NSW planning department signed off on Port Kembla Copper's plans to bring it down.
PKC boss Ian Wilson announced on Wednesdaythe 198-metre chimney would fall on February 20, more than five months later than originally planned.
The Illawarra landmark's September removal was cancelled at the last minute due to community fears about remaining asbestos levels in the chimney, as well as air pollution and other risks associated with the demolition and evacuation plans.

A revised proposal has now been approved by Planning NSW, after it was reviewed by a working group made up of the Environment Protection Authority, WorkCover, NSW Police and Wollongong City Council.
An independent industry expert had also verified the plans, NSW Planning said.
"Public submissions received during the exhibition were also carefully considered by the department and the working group and the plans were found to be comprehensive and appropriate - with public safety the paramount consideration," the department said.
Mr Wilson yesterday welcomed the green light, saying he hoped it would allay community fears and allow his company to finish off the project to clear the stack site.

LITTLE ROCK, AR - The City Board of Directors will decide Tuesday whether to tear down 13 residential structures they call severely dilapidated, deteriorated and/or burned condition.
The first step would be to tear them down, however, a group called "Stop the Demolitions, Little Rock" says turning them into weed lots isn't solving anything.
"Where there are mulitple properties on one block when you tear those down the reuse potential and the opportunity for redevelopment of those properties really falls to almost zero," said Vanessa McKuin with Stop the Demolition.
Tearing down the 13 homes will likely cost the city upwards of $48,000.
The city says they've worked to revitalize communities where they've torn down homes by partnering with organizations like Arkansas Baptist, Habitat for Humanity and Better Community Developers to actually develop homes in some of these places.
