MORRISVILLE BOROUGH--Demolition of two of the three buildings on the site of the now-shuttered community pool complex on Delmorr Avenue is set to begin in the coming weeks, with the pool itself to be filled in and the area turned into a public park.
At the July 21 meeting, borough council voted 7-0 with Councilman Fred Kerner absent, to start the work of tearing down the structures on the site which is located in Williamson Park.
The appropriate permits must first be obtained from the Bucks County Conservation District and the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The official approval is expected before the end of July once the demolition plans are submitted to the agencies.
The buildings which will be razed are the unheated bathhouse and pump station, both of which are deteriorated and have no electric hookups.
The third structure, the concession stand, is salvageable, although the roof tiles or underlying material might contain asbestos which will have to be carefully removed.
That building is expected to be converted into a bathroom which will be accessible to the disabled and adhere to the guidelines of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.
We will knock down the buildings and use that to fill in the pool, Borough Manager Tom Bates explained after the meeting.
According to Bates, borough workers will handle the demolition and fill in the pool with the debris within two feet of the top. The remaining area will be packed with dirt, so that it will resemble a grassy recreational area.

Christchurch City Council has begun demolition of the Aranui Wainoni Family Centre in Hampshire Street, making way for a new youth and community facility to be built on the site.
The demolition of the earthquake-damaged family centre at 31 Hampshire Street is expected to be complete next month. The site will be grassed over until construction of the new facility - which is the Councils first new community centre to be built since the earthquakes - begins. A number of trees will be removed from the site during the demolition as they are close to the damaged building. New trees will be planted when the new facility is built.
Construction of the new youth and community facility is expected to begin early next year after detailed and developed design work is completed, a contractor is appointed to undertake the construction and consents granted. A total of $5.9 million has been set aside for the facility, including $1 million from the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust and $450,000 from Lions Club International Foundation. The new facility will incorporate activity, meeting and office space.
Director Council Facilities and Infrastructure David Adamson says this is an important milestone for the Aranui community.
"We know residents have really missed the family centre since its closure. Before the earthquakes, this place was a key gathering place for young people and their families, whether it was to take part in a rugby league game or kapa haka practice. Were looking forward to seeing the new, modern facility that will replace the family centre becoming an important community hub again."
Mr Adamson says the demolition of the family centre will be the first tangible sign of progress residents will see towards their new community centre.
"Residents have already seen and had input into the initial concept design. Over the coming months, well be fine tuning plans for how the facility will look. Well continue to talk to residents as the project progresses to make sure the new community centre will meet their needs now, and in the future."

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A farmer attempting to stop the ongoing demolition activities at Barangay Maimpis here was shot over the weekend.
A Sun.Star Pampanga source said that the said demolition at the 130-hectare agrarian reform area started last week by the claimant identified as lawyer Eligio Mallari, a former official of the Commission on Human Rights.
In the midst of the negotiations between the farmers and the operators, however, two unidentified members of the demolition team shot one of the farmer-leaders, said a witness.
"When we were about to talk to them about the demolition activities, they went down their vehicles and two of them pointed their guns at us," said farmer-leader Jomer Santiago.
The victim, who was critically wounded, was identified as 29-year-old Guillermo Padua.
According to another witness, the demolition team immediately escaped after the incident on board a white truck, an orange van, and three jeepneys with plate numbers DXW 525, DXW 303, and DCC 459.
Meanwhile, according to one of the farmers, the incident only ignited their interests to fight for their rights to reclaim the land.
"We are looking forward to seeing Atty. Mallari so that he would be able to know how angry the farmers are with regards to his recent demolition operations," said Santiago, adding that Mallari has always declined to meet them.
Currently, the City of San Fernando police is still trying to trace the suspects while Padua is still in the hospital.
Sun.Star Pampanga tried but failed to reach to Mallari at press time. (Ferth Vandensteen Manaysay)
