‘Below Deck’: Francesca Rubi Breaks Down in Tears Revealing the Crew Thinks She’s ‘B*tchy’ and ‘Mean’ – Showbiz Cheat Sheet - January 3, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Chief stew Francesca Rubi from Below Deck is more than aware that some crew members arent her biggest fans.

Shes seen in tears in an upcoming episode, crying about how the crew becomes your family, but this crew views her as being abrasive. The revelation comes when My Seanna is about to dock and she sees another chief stew she knows on another yacht. She excitedly waves at the other crew member from afar, but then has to excuse herself.

A big part of yachting is the crew end up being your family, she said in a confessional. Rubi becomes emotional and she cries alone in her bunk. This crew doesnt see me like a person. They see me as this b*tchy, mean chief stew. Rubi tears up in her confessional as cameras capture her crying while trying to compose herself for docking.

The season was filmed nearly a year ago and Rubi seems to have gotten over the disappointment that she didnt bond with some of the crew. She hosted a Ask Me Anything onInstagram and was asked how she dealt with Elizabeth Frankini ignoring her direction. Frankini thought Rubi was passive-aggressive, but Rubi didnt see it that way.

Theres also no time when on charter to train, she said. So you kind of have to find a balance between training on the job and also instructing in a nice way.

RELATED: Below Deck: Francesca Rubi Shades Charter Guest Charley Walters and Some of the Crew

But yes, it was definitely frustrating for me when Elizabeth wasnt listening to my directions, she continued. I feel that I was communicating in a very nice and clear manner. Especially about the cutlery drawer.

She was also asked if she would work with Frankini and Ashling Lorger in the future. Rubi only talked about Lorger. I would pick lovely Ash because she just thinks on her feet, she said. And I always know its going to be sorted and I dont need to micromanage. I dont need to check up on her like you saw with the detox shots in the recent episode.

Every chief stew in the franchise has dealt with crew members viewing them as being cruel or too stern. Chief stew Jenna MacGillivray from Below Deck Sailing Yacht was often told she was too hard on her stews. Fans also bashed MacGillivray for her no-nonsense manner and tone-deaf jokes.

Chief stew Kate Chastain from Below Deck also had several stews say she was an unpleasant boss. Stew Emily Warburton-Adams recent comments about Chastain came as a surprise. She and Chastain seemed to work well together, but she said that wasnt necessarily the case.

It mainly came after the season, she recalled about post-season tension. On the show, there were a few things obviously at the end when she started flagging things Id done wrong. Which caused a little bit of a rift.

Chief stew Hannah Ferrier from Below Deck Mediterranean also had issues with stews, especially Christine Bugsy Drake. Drake told Ferrier she thought shed been a lousy chief stew during season 2. Drake returned for season 5, but she and Ferrier seemed to have grown and worked through their differences.

Below Deck is on Monday at 9/8c on Bravo.

Different kind of bowl week on deck for Indiana – The Crimson Quarry - January 3, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Any other year, Indianas traveling party might already be in Tampa.

There would be community events to attend, post-practice activities for players, formal dinners and pep rallies built into the bowl week schedule. Last year, for example, the Hoosiers spent time on the beach and toured combat ships at Jacksonvilles Naval Stadion Mayport in the days leading up to the Gator Bowl. In 2016, they volunteered time at a community kitchen in San Francisco and went on a guided tour of Alcatraz ahead of the Foster Farms Bowl. And in 2015, they took in the full Christmas in New York experience before the Pinstripe Bowl,

This year, for obvious reasons, teams cant do those types of things. Itll be football and only football when IU arrives in Florida later this week for Saturdays Outback Bowl matchup with Ole Miss.

It will be a little different, IU coach Tom Allen said.

After practicing in Bloomington on Monday morning, Indiana will hold two more training sessions on campus this week before flying out of Indianapolis on Wednesday afternoon. The Hoosiers will have one practice at a local high school facility on Thursday before holding a final walkthrough and taking a team photo on Friday. In between, IU will spend its time exclusively at its team hotel.

To break up some of the downtime this week, Allen said his program is putting together at least one on-site team event at the hotel.

We will have a special thing we will do on Thursday night there at the hotel, Allen said. Kind of like a Taste of Florida type deal for the players that we will put on for them so they can enjoy the Florida food many of our guys really like from down there. So, that will be fun and just things kind of around the hotel. Because of COVID-19 you will not have the events or go to any amusement parks or anything like that, or go to beach or things you usually do around the game at this location. But you still get a chance to go down there a couple of days early.

By the time IU touches down in Florida, the hope is the Hoosiers will have a full assortment of players to put through workouts. IU returned to practice last week following its recent COVID-19 pause, but, as of Monday afternoon, the Hoosiers still had some players sidelined due to quarantine procedures. Its not clear which players or position groups have been most affected by IUs outbreak this month, nor is it known what Indianas roster will look like by the end of the week.

But Allen says there is at least some reason to believe the roster will be in better shape in the coming days.

The challenge now is to get back and have a great week of practice, Allen said. The whole groups not back yet but we are getting closer. We may have them all back (Tuesday). We do not know yet. But definitely getting closer to that. You would like to get them all back at least by Wednesday so you can have a chance to get a full practice in before we head out of here. Ideally, you get them back (Tuesday) and you got two practices in pads. So, bottom line is that is still yet to be determined but definitely have a lot more guys back than we had before.

It was all hands on deck for the 2020 earthquake – Deseret News - January 3, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

As soon as my house stopped shaking, my phone began to ring.

Whoa! We just had an earthquake! Did you feel that? staff photographer Laura Seitz exclaimed just after 7 a.m.

Yup! We got rocked here, too, I said. Call you right back!

Because of COVID-19, we had already shifted into working remotely, but due to the severity of the quake, I knew this day was going to be challenging.

I started making calls to our Deseret News photographers for an all-hands-on-deck response after a 5.7 magnitude struck Magna and was felt throughout the Wasatch Front on March 18.

Everyone knows that when it comes to big stories, were all in this together for as long as we need to be. So our night photographer Scott Winterton responded in his Herriman community that morning, knowing he would likely have a long day, while those on day shifts started extra early so we could quickly upload our photos on the web.

Depending on the location of the photographers residence is how and where we prioritized the locations that they we responded to first. But information that was accurate was hard to come by. We simply didnt know which areas had been seriously damaged.

Our news-gathering partners from KSL-TV were knocked off the air that morning for a short amount of time due to the quake, so getting information into the newsroom and then broadcast out to the public, including those of us working remotely, was not fast at first.

We broke out the portable police scanners, watched social media, made phone call after phone call, and worked our sources to gather as much information as we could.

Within minutes of Spenser Heaps, deputy director of photography for the Deseret News, arriving on scene of a damaged downtown building, we had photos into our system.

Of course this thing caught me totally off guard, literally shaking me from my sleep. But preparedness is something you make part of your routine as a photojournalist, Heaps recalled of that morning.

So thankfully, my batteries were charged and my camera bag was pretty much ready to go out the door. Once the shaking stopped, I threw on some clothes, threw the cameras and laptop in my truck and was ready to go out the door.

By 7:29 a.m. we had a story up with the first photo. Within the hour we had a full photo report from Heaps from his downtown location along with photos from a damaged school in Herriman from Winterton.

After we learned about major damage in Magna at a mobile home community, photographer Jeff Allred was dispatched to that scene. Allred was able to quickly send photos into us for the breaking web story updates, giving our readers a complete and compelling look at the Magna victims homes that were badly damaged.

With a concern that cellphone towers might be jammed, we switched communication between our photographers to our two-way radio system a system we invested in a few years earlier for just such scenarios. This also likely allowed our photographers to use their cellular data to send photos into our system.

By late morning as things calmed down, Heaps and I were able to make our way into the building to continue coordinating coverage and work on editing the amazing images that were still coming in. Despite the initial plan to work remotely, we felt like we needed to be there.

Just like many residents, the aftershocks rattled our nerves throughout the day. But all of us working on the story, including editors, reporters and photographers, knew our readers were counting on us.

Here are some of the incredible images captured that day and in the days and weeks that followed by the Deseret News photojournalists.

Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge deck repairs begin on Jan. 4th – Local 22/44 News - December 23, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Two weeks from now, an historic local bridge is getting a round of repairs. Its the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge spanning the Connecticut River.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation maintains the bridge. Beginning on Monday, January 4, the agency will start to replace several worn-out wooden planks on its deck.

At first, the bridge will be closed to traffic from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every day for a week. For four more weeks after that, one lane of alternating traffic will be open at a time during those same hours. Both lanes will be open once the repairs wrap up each day. Transportation officials expect the work to be complete in early February.

The Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge has been standing since 1866 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Until 2008, it was the longest covered bridge still in use in the United States.

A terrifying new way to view Mt Fuji: From a deck at the top of a giant rollercoaster! – SoraNews24 - December 23, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Fujiyama Tower promises a viewing like nothing youve ever experienced before.

No trip to Japan is complete without seeing Mt Fuji at least once, and soon youll be able to see it from a brand new angle, thanks to a thrilling new setup at the Fuji-Q Highland amusement park in Yamanashi Prefecture.

Home to a number of thrill rides, Fuji-Q Highland is most famous for its giantFujiyama roller coaster, which stands at 79 metres (259 feet) in height, and this is where the new viewing deck will be installed.

Oncethe tallest roller coaster in the world when the park opened in 1968, Fujiyama is now the eighth highest in the world.

    Image: Wikipedia/ Geomr~commonswiki

Those who ride the rollercoaster get to enjoy jaw-dropping views of Japans tallest mountain as they whizz by the circular section in the middle. A view this good is a shame to waste on a ride-by that takes a few seconds, though, so Fuji-Q have now come up with a brilliant new way for non-riders to enjoy it too.

Called Fujiyama Tower, the new viewing area comprises several different experiences for visitors to try, depending on their daredevil levels. First up, theres theFujiyama Sky Deck Observatory, where people can enjoy sweeping views ofMt. Fuji and its surrounding areas from a height of about 55 metres (180 feet).

Photos from here, where you can see a full vista of Mt Fuji rising up from the earth, promise to be spectacular.

The next activity, called Fujiyama Walk, is not for the faint of heart. Previously reserved for staff, who got to enjoy this unique view of Mt Fuji while performing daily inspections of the rollercoaster tracks above, this windswept passage without handrails can now be enjoyed by visitors attached to a harness.

The third new activity on offer is atube-type slider called Fujiyama Slider, which is said to transport visitors from the deck to the ground level in moments.

The slider wraps around the elevator shaft at the centre of the tower.

The Fujiyama Tower is being built at a cost of1.07 billion yen (US$10.35 million), and is scheduled to open to the public in the summer of 2021. Interestingly, Fuji-Q Highland says visitors to the Fujiyama Tower will be able to enjoythe screaming entertainment that is typical of the park, which contradicts the scream in your heart request they put out as a coronavirus countermeasure for riders earlier this year.

North Olmsted clarifying residential zoning codes related to carports, temporary ramps, decks and patios – cleveland.com - December 4, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio -- Clarifying residential zoning codes involving everything from carports and recreation vehicles to temporary ramps, decks, patios and air conditioning units is what North Olmsted officials are currently hoping to achieve with a new ordinance, expected to soon be passed by City Council.

Its a bit of housekeeping when we find areas of the code that are unclear, that residents have a hard time understanding or we get variance requests with a certain frequency, North Olmsted Director of Planning and Community Development Kimberly Lieber said. This ordinance is a bundling together of a number of those issues.

One of the more substantive updates involves temporary ramps for accessibility in residential areas. As the zoning code currently reads, there is no mention of such necessary structures.

Lieber said the city wanted to provide that relief valve permitting temporary ramps on a case-by-case basis.

Its always better to establish a rule for how something can be done rather than kind of treat everything as a one-off, Lieber said. Thats a good one, especially in a community that might have some aging structures and aging residents and more people with the need for ramps into their homes while they deal with health or wellness issues.

As for patios and decks, the new ordinance differentiates between the structures normally located in the rear of homes.

They could be either covered, uncovered or a grade, so not all decks and patios are created equally, Lieber said. You can think of somebody that pours a patch of concrete in their back yard for their patio furniture or you can think of something that rises almost to the level of a home addition that might have a roof covering or something much more elaborate.

Our code really didnt distinguish between something that was impactful and something that was kind of a minor backyard improvement.

The need for the updated language involves the required rear-yard setback for any type of patio or deck that is contiguous to the dwelling.

Considering that the North Olmsted Building & Zoning Board of Appeals typically grants deck and patio variances, Lieber said the city is creating a tiered system where only the bigger structures will require approval.

The code regarding air conditioner units and generators also involves setbacks. The former now emit less noise, allowing for placement on the side of homes, while the latter can be quite loud and will require placement in the rear of the yard.

Regarding recreational vehicles parked in driveways, the North Olmsted Law Department requested that the city remove its allowance for 72 hours during any 21-day period.

They felt our current language created a cat-and-mouse situation with property-maintenance inspectors and property owners, Lieber said. It created a really difficult situation for inspectors to enforce, but the reality is we want people to be able to maintain their recreation vehicles.

If theres a cover on it and its sitting in the driveway, its clearly stored. So inspectors will use other standards to determine whether or not it meets the criteria.

While carports are still not permitted, the updated code also prohibits temporary and portable carports.

Codes should be accessible to residents, who can read and understand what their property rights are, Lieber said. We felt like a code amendment was appropriate.

Its just good practice for zoning when you find areas that might be slightly flawed or unclear to clean them up when you can.

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A lot of holiday celebrations are looking different this year, but that isnt stopping a dedicated group of Santas helpers at the Ronald McDonald House in Wauwatosa. Every year, the visual marketing team from Kohls comes out to deck the halls. They set an elaborate light display outside featuring presents, ornaments and Christmas trees.

Whoa! They're coming, Shelly, one of the volunteers yelled as a three-foot ornament started rolling down the hill in front of the house.

Nearby, massive gift boxes were being stacked up, and lights were being strung everywhere.

The team and I are really excited, every year, to be able to do this event, said Sandy Cherry. We look forward to it all year long.

Cherry is the visual presentation manager at Kohls. The team is responsible for all of the displays and decorations you see at the stores.

We've had a great day today weather-wise, sometimes it's freezing, she said with a laugh. But, either way, we're thrilled to volunteer for Ronald McDonald.

Considering the job they do all week long, it makes sense Cherry and the team are good at decorating.

They're the little elves that show up in the store and make everything look pretty, said Tara Geiter, Kohls director of community relations.

Each piece is staked into place, so it can withstand any winter weather. Every year for the last 10, these volunteers have been decorating at the Ronald McDonald House.

This year, it looks like a lot of candy canes and Santa hats and Christmas lights outside, Geiter said, surveying the scene.

But this year, these elves are all wearing masks and trying to stay six feet apart, even when carrying the bulky decorations.

Definitely volunteering has looked different, Geiter said. Normally, you'd see high fives and hugs and all that, and obviously that's not something we're doing.

Inside the Ronald McDonald House, it looks a little different, too. The Kohls team picked out shiny green garland to decorate inside.

Last year we did new green trim in 100 stores, so we decided we'd use some of the prototypes from that, Cherry said.

But its Ronald McDonald House volunteers putting it up.

Typically, we would invite them in and really have them deck the halls inside. This year of course, like everything else, that's different, said Melissa Marney.

Marney is the marketing director at the Ronald McDonald House Eastern Wisconsin. She said keeping families safe during the pandemic is their top priority. Families are here from far away to get medical care for their sick kids.

Even during Covid, we've never closed our doors or stopped admitting families, Marney said.

That means families will be staying at the house through the holidays, and kids need to know Santa can still find them. Marney took CBS 58 on a tour inside, stopping at one special door.

Dropping that token into this fountain is what unlocks the magical door, she said, pointing at a fountain next to the door.

Once inside, the Magic Room as they call it, looks a little like Santas Workshop. Shelves are lined with toys from the floor to the ceiling.

As you can imagine, a lot of ooh and ahhing, Marney said.

Each child can select one toy and one book. There are even gift cards available for the older kids.

The generosity of our community is what makes this house a home, Marney said.

The Ronald McDonald House can serve 70 families at a time. Theyre hosting 20-30 families right now. Making it feel like home is important.

They get so excited when they see the lights come on. We plug them in and they're like, oh my gosh, Santa's coming, Cherry said.

Geiter said its an important gift Kohls can give this time of year.

I think our associates have been able to see that kind of impact first-hand and it's pretty meaningful and important, she said.

And its a reminder of what this time of year is all about.

When those lights twinkle, so do their eyes. It's just the best thing to see, Marney said.

Marney said RMDH is using toys differently this Christmas, since they have fewer children than usual staying at the house. But she said gift card donations always go a long way towards helping families celebrate the holidays.
