Summertime dry-tooling, anyone? Sure, theres warm, hand-friendly rock to climb out there (with no medieval instruments to gouge or lacerate you), but ice-climbing season is just around the corner, so why not get strong?

That was the rationale for this weeks whipper, filmed in September 2021 to prepare for the upcoming winter, in Fairbanks, Alaska. The group, who had packed half ropes and not enough helmets, were climbing at the Grapefruit Crag when this whip occurred. My buddy Gabe is the one climbing, the filmer, Calvin Daugherty, told Climbing. He's paying for college and couldn't afford a helmet so [he] opted to climb without one. In hindsight, he realized [a helmet] was worth it and decided to get one.

Their lesson learned? Your life is worth more than $80. It only took a broken tooth to realize that, Daugherty said.

The Steam Deck is absolutely stuffed with features, settings, and configuration options, and you might not know about all of them. Ive pulled together nine Steam Deck tricks and tips that you can use to get around the machine faster, save battery life, and make the most of of Valves handheld gaming PC.

TheSteambutton will quickly become your best friend with the Steam Deck, but it does more than open your menu. Hold it down for a couple of seconds longer to pull up a list of Steam Deck shortcuts that show you how to take a screenshot, force quit a game, and more.

Youll find the full list of shortcuts by holding down theSteambutton, but here they are for quick reference:

You have access to four back buttons on the Steam Deck, but they dont do anything by default. You can customize your controls in any game by launching it and pressing theSteambutton. Scroll to the right and selectControllersettings to rebind any of the buttons on the Deck, browse community layouts, and create your own layouts. Valve even includes several controller templates to get you started, regardless of if a game supports controllers or not. You cant do that on a Nintendo Switch.

The Steam Deck automatically sorts your library and provides a Great on Deck category thats a little misleading. These are all of the Deck Verified games in your library, which means theyve been tested by Valve and provide a seamless experience when playing on Deck. That doesnt mean the rest of your Steam library is out, though.

Swap over to your full library and press theXbutton to selectFilter by Verified and playable.Countless titles work perfectly well on Steam Deck but dont have full verification due to a pregame launcher or a minor configuration issue. Although you should explore your full library, I recommend starting with the best Deck Verified games first.

The default Steam Deck keyboard theme is boring. Head to theSettingsmenu and selectKeyboardto change it. Youll have a few themes by default, plus an extra if you have a 512GB model, and Valve sells more themes in the Steam points shop. There arent a ton of options now, but I expect well see a lot more keyboard themes in the future.

The Steam Deck now supports half-rate shading, which can massively improve your battery life. Half-rate shading basically cuts the resolution of pixel shaders in half. Although half-rate shading is available in every game, I recommend using in pixel art games in particular.

If youre a big fan of platformer games and indie titles like me, half-rate shading will save you a ton of battery life (hours, in many cases). The lower resolution doesnt matter in pixel art games, but be careful with half-rate shading in more graphically complex games it can really hurt image quality.

You can use AMDs FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) with any game on Steam Deck, but enabling it is a little confusing. FSR improves performance and saves battery by upscaling a game from a lower resolution. To turn it on, lower your resolution in any game and open theQuick settings menu. Scroll down toPerformanceand select FSRunder theScaling Filtersection.

There are a ton of other options here, too make sure to read our guide on how to check your frame rate on Steam Deck to see what some of them do.

You can use Xbox Game Pass on the Steam Deck, at least a little bit. You can only stream Game Pass titles through Microsoft Edge, which you need to access the Steam Deck desktop for. To get there, press theSteambutton, select Power,and chooseSwitch to Desktop.

Once youve gotten Edge working and youre signed into your Game Pass account, make sure to check out our roundup of the best games on Xbox Game Pass to know what to play first.

Battery life is a big issue, so if you cant pick up a power bank for Steam Deck, youll have to find other ways to save power. Open theQuick settingsmenu andscroll down toPerformanceto limit your graphics power (listed asThermal power TDP). Turning the power down can save you massive battery life while traveling (though, the TSA might still make fun on your Steam Deck at the airport).

Open up a game likeCivilization VI,and youll quickly see the problem with the size of the Steam Decks screen. Thankfully, you can use the Magnifier to zoom in on areas that may be hard to read. To use it, hold downSteamandL1and use the right joystick to select the area of the screen you want to zoom in on. Let go and itll stay there. You can turn off the Magnifier by using the same Steam+L1shortcut.

The New Capenna championship was a tournament dominated by Midrange decks and Jeskai Dragon Storm - every single build in the top 8 belonged to one of these categories. That said, it was a split format tournament between Standard and Historic, and there were some interesting decks that did not make the top 8 that I believe might be worth examining.It's easy to get caught up just in the decks that performed the best, but for a single tournament, results will rarely tell you the full story of how good a deck is.

PGA Tour suspends players participating in LIV Golf series

A golf fan took a dramatic tumble after he was struck by a ball at the controversial LIV event in Hertfordshire.

The Saudi-backed breakaway tour is currently in its maiden event with some of the sport's biggest names involved.

Dustin Johnson leads the field, which also includes Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and a host of others.

Bryson DeChambeau has become the latest player to sign up, despite all those competing being banned from the PGA Tour.

American Peter Uihlein was on the tee when he shanked his shot left, imitating to the crowd that the ball had not gone in the desired direction.

As spectators rushed to get out of the way, the ball unfortunately struck one gentleman who first fell to his knees, then on to his back.

He was at least conscious as he rolled over while other fans enquired over his wellbeing.

The LIV golf tour continues to cause controversy, with stars criticised for taking the huge sums of money on offer despite the obvious moral dilemma.

Poulter, a veteran of the Ryder Cup whose involvement in future editions of the event is now under scrutiny, has confirmed he will appeal his ban from the PGA Tour.

I will appeal for sure. It makes no sense," he said.

Having two Tour cards and the ability to play golf all over the world, what's wrong with that? I didn't resign my membership because I don't feel I have done anything wrong.

"I have played all over the world for 25 years. This is no different ... it's a power struggle and it's just disappointing."

Spaniard Garcia and Irishman Graeme McDowell have pleaded with the European Tour not to take the same course of action as their PGA counterparts.

I resigned because I don't want to get into any legal battles with anyone, Garcia said. But I havent resigned from the European Tour because I would like to still be a member. I'm European, I love the European Tour. I played it for 23 years.

Obviously we're going to have to wait and see what the European Tour does. But I definitely would like to keep my membership and get my chance to make The Ryder Cup Team because I love that event. But we'll wait and see what happens over there.

McDowell added: I felt like the PGA Tour was going to take the hard stance. Will (DP World Tour boss) Keith (Pelley) follow suit? I hope he doesn't.

"I think he has a fantastic opportunity here with a lot of European players and European Tour players that would like to subsidise their schedule with other events, especially if we are not allowed to play on the PGA Tour.

"I really hope The European Tour makes a good decision. Watch this space.

Jourdi Bleu is remembered as the yoga instructor who made her debut on the latest episode of Below Deck Down Under. Bravo fans love the charter guest, and are eager to find out how to attend her real-life classes.

The reality show, which airs every Thursday, gives an insight into the life of a five-star on-board charter service, which is usually enjoyed by successful business owners and entrepreneurs. Fitting the bill is Jourdi from the latest season.

Fancy giving her yoga class a go? Well, for those living in Sydney, Australia, you can. Otherwise, we have all the details on how her business is thriving since her Below Deck debut

Jourdi Bleu is a yoga instructor who appeared on Below Deck Down Under season 1 episode 14. She was a charter guest who currently runs her own sober-focused company Bondi X Party.

She is also an operations manager and teacher at This is Yoga Sydney, a boutique studio where she runs her own classes. If her Below Deck debut is anything to go by, Jourdi is clearly a globe-trotter.

The charter guest, who also works a mindset life coach, has visited South Africa, United States, UK and India, and is currently living it up as a self-proclaimed boss babe in Sydney, Australia.

When Jourdi Bleu made her debut on the Bravo reality show, she bonded with Down Under cast member Culver and ended up kissing him in the hot tub, despite his current romance with Brittini.

It comes after the yachtie joined Jourdi and her fellow charter guests in the hot tub, much to the shock of fans. She was also open about not drinking alcohol, which links to her sober-conscious business Instagram page.

A Reddit thread saw a fan react: From the momentJourdisaid Ill take a real daiquiri, it was on! Some fans questioned where Jourdi came from, but another source on Twitter revealed the two have been texting.

Jourdi says she has her mum to thank for originally introducing her to yoga about 13 years ago, when her competitive gymnastics career came to a screeching halt after an accident, as per This is Yoga.

She regularly teaches classes, where she loves to have a laugh, at The Yoga Studio in Sydney, Australia. Their timetable can be accessed on their website. Jourdi runs an intuitively-sequenced class, with a focus on self-discovery.

The Below Deck star gave an insight into what to expect from her classes and said:

If you come to my classes, I usually like to take it slow and strong, so you can really embody each pose and move with your breath. My sequences are always creative and fun (planning classes is one of my favourite things to do) and I promise youll have a laugh as I let my bubbly, light hearted personality shine through. Im so excited to dive deeper into the teaching realm, as its morphing my relationship to yoga to a level I didnt even think was possible.

Jourdis next yoga class is taking place on June 26th at the Randwick Studio, where she will teach heated vinyasa at 4pm and then a yin yoga session at 5.15pm, each lasting one hour.

This romantic entanglement is yacht going to end well.

When the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season three trailer teased theeventual formation of a love pentagon, we weren't quitesure what to make of itand despite the fact that we're now approaching the season finale,we're still not sure what exactly's been going on aboard theParsifal III. If anything, the love pentagon has turned into one big love blob.

At the center of this blob is first mate Gary King. He's the main man in contentionas chief engineer Colin MacRae put it, "These girls are f--king going crazy for Gary"though deckhand Tom Pearson was also in the mix before Captain Glenn Shephard cut him loose. Then there's the ladies: chief stew Daisy Kelliher, and stewardesses Gabriela Barragan, Ashley Marti and Scarlett Bentley.

Between the group of cast members, it's hard enough to keep track of what happened after a single Below Deck Sailing Yacht episode, let alone an entire season's worth. So, we're here to help.

AMHERST, N.Y. Amherst drivers need to beware of some construction happening this weekend.

The New York State Department of Transportation announced that lanes will be restricted on I-290 in Amherst over I-990 on Saturday.

Lanes will be reduced down to one on eastbound I-290 from Niagara Falls Boulevard (US Route 62) to Millersport Highway (NY Route 263) for bridge deck repair work.

Lane closures will start at 8 a.m. and are scheduled to end at 4:30 p.m.

Drivers should expect some delays and allow for extra time.

The deck repair is weather sensitive and could be delayed for the weather.

Drivers are reminded to slow down in work zones and remember that fines double in these areas.

The consistent fall of rain in Baltimore perhaps offered some cover, but the first pitch of Tuesday nights Orioles game and six others that followed made it clear: Summer has arrived early at Camden Yards.

After Chicago Cubs leadoff hitter Christopher Morel hammered Kyle Bradishs first pitch over Oriole Parks new left field wall to begin the night, the Orioles answered with five home runs of their own including a second-decker from Austin Hays to beat Chicago, 9-3, in the first half of a two-game interleague set.

It took two pitches for Baltimore (24-33) to even the score with Cedric Mullins going deep, marking the first time an Orioles game featured both teams hitting leadoff home runs since Houstons George Springer paired with Adam Jones in 2016. Trey Mancini sent Cubs starter Keegan Thompsons next pitch into the bullpen in left-center, marking the first time the Orioles first two at-bats resulted in homers since Seth Smith and Manny Machado did it in 2017. The consecutive solo shots doubled the Orioles total of first-inning home runs this season.

The Orioles broke the game open an inning later when Jorge Mateo hit a three-run home run beyond the new wall. It was Baltimores 11th three-run home run of the season, a total that entered the day as the most in baseball and surpassing their 2021 mark. They pushed two more runs across in the third, with Hays doubling in a run then narrowly beating the throw to the plate on Ryan Mountcastles sacrifice fly.

We havent been real good at scoring early in the game, manager Brandon Hyde said. We havent done that a whole lot this year, really in the past few years. I just thought we came out swinging aggressively. Maybe a little contagious.

The Cubs chased Bradish from the game in the fifth. The rookie right-hander took the mound having thrown 88 pitches, just three beneath his season high, but Willson Contreras sent No. 89 over the left field wall. A two-out walk ended Bradishs night after 105 pitches, but the Orioles got that run back in emphatic fashion.

With two outs in the inning, Hays launched a 2-1 changeup from Alec Mills down the left field line, with the drive becoming only the seventh home run in Camden Yards 30-year history to reach the ballparks second deck. At a projected 464 feet, it was the fourth-longest home run at Camden Yards since Statcast began tracking in 2015, coming a foot shy of a Machado solo shot in 2017 for the longest at home by an Oriole in that time.

Asked whether hes ever hit a ball to that area in batting practice, Hays immediately responded, No.

Ive never sniffed the second deck before, Hays said. I dont know if there was a gust of wind or what happened on that one, but all the stars aligned for me to get one up there.

Having battled injuries for much of his major league career, Hays is batting .292 with an .826 OPS, playing in 52 of the Orioles 57 games. That includes a .341/.399/.543 slashline against right-handed pitchers after he had a .684 OPS against same-handed throwers in 2021. Hyde credited the success to health, with Hays saying the consistent at-bats that come with it are playing the largest role.

Hes just hitting the ball hard, Hyde said. I think youre seeing what kind of player he can be when he stays healthy and he plays every day.

For good measure, Ramn Uras homered in the sixth, making Tuesday the first time since August 2017 that five Orioles all homered in the same game. Mancini was part of both quintets.

I think we kind of noticed it in the Seattle series; I felt like balls were carrying a little bit more, Hyde said. Thought the ball was really carrying tonight. Not to take anything away from the homers, but there was a lot of deep flyouts. ... I think weve seen it here before. Balls carry here, but we had five tonight, and it was good to see.

As hes managed his way through some long days in Baltimore, Hyde has often fallen back on his experience on the Cubs coaching staff, watching a rebuilding process unfurl and result in a championship.

Tuesday marked the first time hes managed opposite his former team, for whom he was the first base coach on their 2016 World Series title club among what he called seven pretty magical years there.

He acknowledged it was a little strange to be managing against them, though Chicago has endured many changes since Hydes tenure there. Cubs manager David Ross was a catcher on the roster during Hydes coaching stint. Before Tuesdays game, he chuckled thinking of a photo of he and Hyde missing on a high-five attempt after a Cubs walk-off victory.

I think I sat next to Brandon as he stood on the steps at Wrigley every day of my tenure in Chicago when I was a player, and hes a real old-school baseball-minded person. I think hes got a lot of experience and I value him for his baseball opinion. I call him for opinions, managerial opinions, people opinions, baseball opinions, spring training opinions, all the time.

It was a special group. Hes a special man. Outside of us winning, hes a great human being, great baseball man that I had a lot of good baseball conversations with. Learned a ton from him.
