The confusion over days of operation of Malindo Airs direct flight between Vizag and Kuala Lumpur has been cleared with the airport authorities confirming the original schedule (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) sought by the airline. The airline will begin operations from the city from February 15.

There were doubts over change in the days of operation and even threat of the airline pulling out as the authorities had expressed their inability to provide security on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 10 p.m. due to acute shortage of CISF personnel.

On the plea made by Airport Advisory Board member O. Naresh Kumar, Visakhapatnam MP Kambhampati Haribabu took up the matter with Union Minister of Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju and the problem was sorted at the highest level.

Temporary manpower has been sanctioned for the two additional days on which the airport would now have to be kept open after 10 p.m., Airport Director C. Pattabhi said confirming the developments on Monday.

The issue has once again brought to the fore the acute shortage of manpower at the Visakhapatnam International Airport. At a time when Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been giving a red carpet to entrepreneurs from Singapore, Malaysia and other countries to invest in India, incidents of this nature will reflect badly on the functioning of the government, feels Mr. Naresh Kumar.

Ironically, several emails and SMSs had to be sent to the railway authorities to get the halt included in the e-ticket reservation facility, says Duvvada Railway Users Association secretary K. Eswar. The e-ticket reservation facility was extended only on January 12, just two days ahead of the inaugural halt.

Sound that can come from a piece of paper is the latest technology to cause a stir.

Histon-based Novalia, working with DJ Qbert, has created the world's first interactive DJ decks in an album cover.

The company is also following this up with a printed piano keyboard and drum pad.

"For years, musicians have used record album covers as an expressive tool to display their unique art and creativity, but DJ QBert is taking his cover to a whole new level," says Novalia.

DJ QBert's new album, Extraterrestria, features a new "spin" on album sleeves. With the help of Algoriddim's DJapp and Novalia's touch technology, DJ QBert's Thud Rumble have unveiled an album cover which also can be used as a DJ controller.

The project was publicly funded last year with the help of crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, raising $128,378, far exceeding the goal of $100,000.

Users are now able to run any track through the DJ app via Bluetooth and spin their own remixes simply by using their fingers on the touch-sensitive album sleeve, which features a dual deck and many virtual knobs.

However, there is only a limited quantity available to buy from the Thud Rumble website, as most copies will be donated to those who helped fund the project.

Dr Kate Stone, founder and boss of Novalia and the woman who hit the headlines a year ago when she was gored by a stag and left fighting for her life said: "We believe the future will look more like the past than the present, where beautiful old-school things we love and are nostalgic about will not die as many have said. We hope to breathe life into things like books and album covers, keeping the creativity in physical products alive.

ON BOARD THE USS FORT WORTH: The middle of the Java Sea is where the AirAsia flight QZ8501 lies in fragments and where all the secrets of its fatal demise wait to be slowly revealed.

Search teams have made critical breakthroughs, including locating the aircraft's black box flight data and cockpit voice recorders on Monday, Jan 12. The crew on board the United States naval vessel USS Fort Worth - as of Monday night located just 1.5 nautical miles away from where the mangled tail of the Airbus A320-200 was salvaged - is just one of the many groups of experts in a multinational effort to look for answers.

Under instruction from Indonesia's search and rescue agency BASARNAS, they are to scour large areas of the sea for debris and victims' bodies.

"The coordination with the Indonesian government has been top-notch, said USS Fort Worth Commanding Officer Kendall Bridgewater. They've been very good, telling us where they'd like us to search and providing that focused effort to basically rule out or verify that there's a part of the flight in the area."

They have been scanning the seafloor using a pinger locator and a range of underwater sonar technology, deployed from a small rigid boat known as a "rib".

"Most of what Fort Worth has been tasked to do is to investigate objects that have been picked up by potentially larger sonar equipment and either confirm or deny that they originated from the flight, said Lieutenant John Kennedy from the Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit. So the team has been able to rule out several items of significance so other countries involved in the search don't need to retrace those steps."

The USS Fort Worth is a sophisticated addition to the US 7th Fleet - a force that patrols the largest expanse of water on Earth, including operations in the South China Sea. It is an agile, manoeuvrable and heavily-armed vessel that uses Singapore as a hub to conduct maintenance and resupply.

While the sonar scanners have not located any flight wreckage, the ship's on-board helicopter, an MH-60 Seahawk, has proven its value, having been instrumental in recovering the remains of three victims. "We were able to mark those bodies with some smoke markers and stay on top to make sure those bodies were properly recovered," said Naval Air Crewman Jason Weideman.

The crew on board the USS Fort Worth do not know when they will end their operation. They say they will continue for as long as they are asked or as long as it takes, proof of the multinational commitment to bringing closure to the families of the victims of this disaster.

With the black box now found, and strong indications about the location of the plane's fuselage, those families are that much closer to closing this chapter of uncertainty.
