Home of Distinction By JENNIFER NOBLIT ThisWeek Community News ThisWeek Community News Wednesday March 5, 2014 10:31 AM
A 7,000-square-foot home will display its custom features this month to help Nationwide Children's Hospital.
The home at 10770 Brinsworth Drive in Dublin will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays through March 23 as the Home of Distinction.
The $10 admission fee to the home will benefit Nationwide Children's Hospital.
The WBNS-10TV Home of Distinction by Cua Builders features five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, an owner's retreat and lower-level entertainment area.
It took six months longer than most homes built by Westerville-based Cua Builders, said Tom Cua, the company's owner.
"It was designed from scratch," he said.
"The houses we build normally take 10 months," Cua said.
"This home took 16 months, which speaks to the amount of details and the square footage, which is impressive in itself."
The home has 7,034 square feet of finished living space and another 4,216 square feet that includes a sports court, screened porch, garage and unfinished basement.

This is one of the last few homes that will be built in the Orchard, a subdivision off 25 1/2 north of Patterson. G.J. Call it luck or excellent marketing strategy, but having hot tubs for sale near the entrance of the Kansas Expocentre certainly had a draw Saturday.
DeVaders Pool and Spas, 841 S.W. Fairlawn, had hot tubs on display for the Topeka Home Show, attracting both the interested and hopeful masses venturing inside the Expocentre from the 5-degree weather. Salesman Ed Lenherr said he had seen at least 400 people walk past, many ogling some warming hands against the bubbling water.
Everyone wants a hot tub, he said. Theyre fun, therapeutic, relaxing. Its one of those things youve got to talk yourself into getting.
Topeka couple Bob and Tami McManes idled near one of the tubs. The couple will close on a home Monday, so the timing for the home show couldnt have been much better. The two are moving into a duplex in a maintenance-provided neighborhood, meaning they likely have more stringent rules with what they can put outside.
If I thought I could put one on our back deck, I would, Tami McManes, 55, said of a hot tub. When you get old like us, the idea of a spray of water massaging your back is appealing.
Other weather-related attractions heaters, fireplaces and insulation.
Weve always had someone here, said Tim Mulroy, president of Black Gold Inc., 2404 N.E. Grantville Road. Everybody is ready for spring.
The Topeka Home show runs Friday through Sunday, featuring more than 120 local, state and national vendors.
Despite the forecast of at least 6 inches of snow Sunday, the show will go on, said John Fiedler, sales manager for Custom Wood Products Inc. and one of the events organizers.
If you missed today, call up the street crews and tell them to plow your street so you can get out here, Fiedler said.

Sales at The Concession, an exclusive, gated golf course community located between Sarasota and Manatee Counties, have kicked off quickly this year with 21 homesites under contract to close in the first quarter.
The strong sales pace follows a stellar year in 2013, with 32 lot closings, and the strong demand dictated a price increase on homesites this month. We continue to see increasing evidence of recovery in the luxury custom home real estate market that continues to get stronger, said Mark Bruce, director of sales at The Concession Real Estate Company. The Concessions full scale comeback really began just prior to the end of the first quarter in 2013. We are priced right and are excited to for the future of this community, said Bruce.
Two new models were recently unveiled at The Concession -- the Verona by Lee Wetherington Homes and the Amalfi, by Arthur Rutenberg Homes.
Several additional models will open this year, creating a model row at The Concession featuring other top regional builders including: Neal Signature Homes, Anchor Builders, John Cannon Homes, and Holliday Builders.
Having these leading home building companies all showcasing new models here speaks volumes about the confidence in the marketplace and the comeback of this community, said Mark Bruce.
The Concession is seeing an explosion of new home construction as well, with 15 homes currently underway, and another 10 to start in the next 90 days.
The Concession features the area's top builders and home-sites that present Florida living like no other Southwest Florida community. One-Acre homesites are currently priced from the low $200's with home/lot packages from $899k.
The Concession is a luxury gated community with one-half acre to over one acre single-family estate home sites featuring lake and preserve views, all located within 1,232 acres of pristine old Florida land, covered with centuries old Live Oak trees, towering pines and protected wetlands. A true world-class golf community, The Concession is located adjacent to the Concession Golf Club with a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course co-designed in association with Tony Jacklin, The Concession is a one of its kind community on Floridas Gulf Coast. More than 225 vendors will display the latest in home products and services across 470 booths at the 48th annual Tri-State Home Show, which opens Friday, Feb. 28, in the Chattanooga Convention Center.
"We like to say everything for your house is under one roof," says Teresa Groves, executive officer of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga, which sponsors the expo. "Homeowners should come visit the Home Show if they are planning to do anything to their homes."
Kristin Randle is counting on the Home Show to get word out about her company, Mission Stone & Tile on East Main Street, which opened in Chattanooga last June.
"We carry a lot of natural stone -- marble, granite and travertine -- as well as a lot of porcelain tile and glass mosaic. We specialize in importing tile and mosaics. A lot of our custom mosaics are made just for us, so we are the only place people can get them. The items we are showing at the Home Show will be some that are unique to our store."

After the Topeka Home Show began in 1962, its attendance quickly grew, soon attracting thousands of people each year seeking home improvement products and advice.
Now, in its 52nd year, the home show attracts about 10,000 visitors annually.
In the years before big-box stores and showrooms, the home shows popularity grew quickly as larger, more elaborate displays from vendors helped attendees visualize what they could do with their own homes.
The Topeka Capital-Journals archives document the shows evolution since its inception by the Topeka Home Builders Association.
In 1967, according to one record, booths at the show were loaded with literature on electric or gas heating, custom kitchen cabinets, pocket paging systems, vacuum cleaners, ladies wigs, sewing machines and other items. An article described the plethora of wares this way:
For the farmer, a Columbus, Neb., based irrigation equipment company features a field walking sprinkler system which will water a quarter-section.
For the businessman always away from his office, a radio equipment distributor explains a pocket-pager that enables a secretary to call her boss to the phone, no matter where he might be in the city.
Nearly five decades later, those once newfangled pagers have been considered obsolete for years.
In 1974, the home show was held at Forbes Air Force Base, newly decomissioned from military service, according to another article. The show was housed in one of the hangars that formerly sheltered warplanes.
That year, the show featured demonstrations of refrigerators, fireplaces, lighting fixtures, and even a steam carpet cleaner.
