Magnetic cable ties are a versatile solution to a mess of cables – The Ledger - August 20, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Lonnie Brown| Ledger columnist

When it comes to computers, printers, chargers for smartphones and their accessories, the word "wireless" does not immediately come to mind. I have more wires behind my computer desk than National Geographic has pictures.

Kitchen appliances that get moved on and off countertops also have cords. You know more about cord management if you've ever tripped over one while moving a small appliance from countertop to storage space.

Many device chargers don't stay at home when you go on vacation. They travel as well, and find ways to tangle themselves.

Wire twists, like those found on bread bags, help. But used often enough, they'll break or are easily lost. Plastic zip ties are fine for one-time use, but can't be done and undone.

There is a colorful and elegant alternative to all this: the reusable magnetic silicone cable tie.

    READ MORE FROM GADGET DADDY:

The specific brand we'll look at today is the Smart & Cool, available from Amazon.com (20 pack, $21; a 30 pack, $26 both with free shipping for Prime members). They are about 7 inches long, and can be stretched nearly double that.

They come in 10 bright neon colors (rose red, red, orange, yellow, light blue, blue, purple, gray, green and black). The magnets on each end are enrobed in silicone and are about three-eights of an inch across about the size of a shirt button.

They are powerful little magnets. They need to be pried apart, and they try to grab on to the nearest metal object. Sometimes, that's a good thing for holding up a cable to the underside of a metal desk, for instance.

They're called cable ties, but the uses for them are varied. They can be used as a money clip. They can hold together a bundle of pens and pencils. They can keep things rolled up that are supposed to be rolled up.

Instead of hooks for a shower curtain, substitute these for a pop of color. Toss the plastic clip from the bread bag and use a magnetic tie instead. Use them for refrigerator magnets.

There you have it. A cable tie that's colorful, versatile, elegant and useful at home or away.

And as you noticed, they're very attractive.

Tricks so that your cat does not climb on the kitchen or bathroom countertops – Gearrice - August 20, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

Cats are not as forgiving as dogs. Is there any way to prevent them from being uploaded to sites that you dont want?

Every owner of a cat knows that the animal only needs a couple of days to become the Houses owner. He will do what he wants and he will get on where he wants, no matter what that puny human tells him.

So the kitty will put his butt on the counter where you prepare food, he will drink water from your glasses, or he will get into the bathtub to play with the stopper. Do not forget that they step on the litter box and lick each other continuouslyincluding their private parts, so they are not very hygienic. How can you prevent it from climbing where it shouldnt?

A cat usually doesnt learn anything through yelling or threats, and even less if you try to talk to him and explain it to him. The best solution is let him learn it for himself.

There are people who wet the cat with water when it is in a place that it should not be, since the water repels them. But normally the cat will not associate that action with him being in the wrong place. He will simply think that you want to annoy him.

luckily there is tricks for cats not to climb on kitchen counters.

First, you have to try to guess why he does it. Maybe he just uses it to look out a window. In that case, put a chair or something for him so he can look through it, or if you dont want, directly lower the blind or put up a curtain.

Cats dont like sticky surfaces, so one trick is put double-sided tape, or adhesive paper, on the edges of the countertop. Its legs will stick and it will go away. If you dont like the idea because its not very aesthetic, you can try foil a little wrinkled, that makes noise when stepped on it, and the reflections scare them.

Another solution is put sandpaper on the countertop. The rough touch on the legs they do not like at all. Hopefully you will only have to do it for a few days, until the habit breaks.

Another very different kind of trick is resort to odours. Cats dont like strong citrus or mint scents, for example. so you can buy essential oils of lemon, orange, peppermint, lavender, or citronella, which are not toxic. Mix them with a little water, and with a spray spray the countertop, the bathtub, the pot of silver that is eatenor where you dont want it to go.

Youll keep the kitty away from those places, and your house will also smell great.

A rental cabin straight out of The Hobbit complete with a map of Middle Earth is the latest addition to June Farms, the luxury agri-tourism resort that Matt Baumgartner has developed over the past five years.

Along with a tree house, creating a Hobbit house was the most frequent suggestion, he said, so he listened. Contractors burrowed and drilled their way into a rocky hillside in the farms forest and dug out a rounded, underground cabin with black walnut countertops, radiant heating, flickering yard lamps and manicured gardens out front.

The Hobbit house will rent for $275 a night weekdays or $295 on weekends.

Construction begins on second phase of Edison Midtown condos in Phoenix – Daily Independent - August 20, 2022 by Mr HomeBuilder

    INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA

Ameris Construction has started building Edison Midtown Phase II, a 60-unit multifamily development at 3131 N. Central Ave., Phoenix.

The development will complete the project, which includes the existing Edison Midtown Phase I, which opened in 2018 and is sold out, according to a release announcing the recent second-phase groundbreaking.

Its a great time to build a new construction, multifamily for-sale product, Dale Regehr of Tannin Developments stated in the release. There is very little of this type of inventory in the market at the present time.

The condominiums will consist of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and two-bedroom plus den units. The condos feature ceilings up to 11 feet, hard-surface flooring throughout, kitchens with stainless steel appliances and quartz countertops.

Twenty of the 60 condominiums in Phase II have been sold, according to the release.

The builder estimates the project will be completed in 2023.

We are thrilled to be able to complete a project thats been on pause for nearly six years now. This will be the only for-sale product in downtown Phoenix at the time of completion - which is a big deal in todays real estate market, said Chris Jones, Ameris Construction president and partner.

New apartments in Worcesters Canal District start at $1,295 offering quartz countertops, exposed brick and a – masslive.com - December 2, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Amid white quartz countertops, chevron tiling in bathrooms and a fitness facility, monstrous textile equipment remains in some of the hallways of one of Worcesters newest apartment complexes.

The industrial equipment pays homage to the brick buildings past as the home to Chevalier Furniture Inc. on Water Street.

Filling the recently vacant structure located next to the Canal Lofts, 62 units are set to come on line by the end of the year, according to Castinetti Realty Group, which is listing the units.

The project is under the watch of Rossi Development Inc., based out of Boston. The facelift for the former Chevalier Furniture building includes studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. All come with one bathroom, in-unit laundry, access to a fitness center, bike racks and a dog park.

Parking is also available behind the building near the dog park, but there are fewer than 25 spaces.

The units facing Harding Street also offer tremendous views of the citys skyline.

A new 62-unit apartment complex is set to open by the end of the year in Worcester's Canal District. The complex features studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units at market rates.

Layouts differ from unit to unit due to the historic nature of the building.

Studios begin at $1,295, one-bedroom units begin at $1,495 and two-bedroom units are $1,895.

According to Castinetti Realty Group, about 30% of the 62 units have already been rented. The two-bedroom units have been most popular and only one remains.

A fitness center with exercise bikes, treadmills and other equipment, is situated in the basement along with a bike rack.

The building is pet friendly with an updated dog park which is available to tenants along Harding Street. Work began on the vacant structure about a year ago.

Castinetti Realty Group expects work to finish and residents to begin moving in by the end of the year.

The complex represents the latest residential plans within the Canal District, which will introduce hundreds of new units within the next several years.

Churchill James has plans for a 13-story building that will contain more than 300 market-rate units. Beyond housing, the building will also have nearly 30,000 square feet of retail and foodservice space as well as a 152-space parking garage located on Green Street, not far from the new units on Water Street.

The plans also include a pizza restaurant and a candlepin bowling alley.

Rossi Development also is building residential units across from Polar Park off of Madison Street. The area is expected to be home to two new residential buildings, a hotel and a biotech facility.

Also not far from Polar Park, the Kelley Square home of Table Talk Pies is expected to begin to transform into more housing.

Boston Capital Development LLC will take over the property at the end of the year once Table Talk Pies fully moves to its new location in Worcester. Boston Capital hopes to have shovels in the ground in 2022 for the first stage of a multi-phase and multi-year project. The plans include retail, affordable housing, market-rate housing and even a creation of a new road.

The first phase will include a six-story L-shaped building with 80 affordable units.

The early plans for Boston Capital also include reinstituting Spruce Street as a connection from Green Street to Washington Street.

The residential boom within the neighborhood began with the Worcester Public Market. The Kelley Square Lofts are above the market. They include studio, one-bedroom and two bedroom units.

    They debuted in 2019.
