D Hangout Bar and Grill at 550 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin, will open Jan. 3, pending final health and building inspections, said owner Mike Deol of Streamwood, a former professional wrestler.

The former Streets of Chicago in Elgin is set to reopen as D Hangout Bar and Grill next week, but plans for a piano bar in the lower level are still up in the air.
The eatery at 550 S. McLean Blvd. received approval to operate as a sports bar and grill on the first floor, which is being updated with new flooring, paint and granite bar countertops, along with about 30 flat screen TVs, owner Mike Deol said.
The building was built in 1973 as Dieterle's Restaurant Lounge, followed by various eateries over the years. The building has been vacant since 2011.
If D Hangout passes final health and building inspections today, the grand opening will take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 3, Deol said. An outdoor patio in the rear of the building should open next summer, he said.
Deol, 44, is a former professional wrestler whose ring name was Killer Khalsa Sing. He also appeared in the 2002 movie "Bollywood/Hollywood."
He mostly performed with Windy City Pro Wrestling and the former World Wrestling All-Stars, and took part in two World Wrestling Entertainment matches, he said. His career ended after a back injury in 2004, he said.
Deol and his partners Noel Lara, Jose Arboleda Jr. and Florentino Delcarmen are leasing the Elgin property. All are friends and neighbors who reside in Streamwood, Deol said.

Chris Brown has listed his three-bedroom, four-story Hollywood Hills home for $1.92 million, according to Zillow.
It's a fairly typical bachelor pad, with black floors and countertops, plus blue neon exterior lights that gives it a distinct nightclub feel.
The house used to have some more distinguishing features, however. After neighbors complained that graffiti creatures on the house's walls were just too scary, Brown was ordered to repaint the front of his home.
"There are lots of babies, lots of children, and they're literally frightened. It's like devils on the wall big scary eyes and big scary teeth, and just the whole vibe is not what we're used to," a neighbor said to the Los Angeles Times in May.
The murals were painted over in July, though Brown claims that it was only because he is trying to sell the house.

Upgrade Your BBQ With Wooden TV Trays -

The countertops that flank most cheap BBQs are fairly breakable, and can get gross pretty easily as dust settles into their crevices. If they arent cutting it anymore, you can class your BBQ up with some cheap TV trays.
Once you find some suitable TV trays, youll want to remove their legs, and apply a solid coat of water seal to the trays themselves. Once theyre dry, take the side tables off of your grill, along with any excess plastic bits that held them in place, making sure to salvage the screws and bolts. Then, mark where the new tray will attach, and bore out some holes with a spade bit and a drill. Attach the bolts with some wood glue, and youve got yourself faux butcher side tables that will make seriously beef up your BBQ.
Even with water seal, this trick is probably safer if you keep your BBQ covered most of the time, but the trays should hold up well with minimal care. Be sure to check out the Instructable for a complete guide.

WILMINGTON (WWAY) -- Are you fed up with smudges and streaks across your nice granite countertops? Are you tired of spending so much money on that specialty cleaner you buy for them? Alicia Ross understands. She shares with us a homemade recipe for granite cleaner in this week's Kitchen Scoop.
Homemade Granite Cleaner
1/2 cup rubbing alcohol 2 cups water 3 to 5 drops dishwashing detergent such as Dawn TM 5 to 10 drops of essential oil of choice
Mix together in a clean, designated spray bottle. Mark clearly GRANITE CLEANER. To use: Spray lightly onto granite and wipe in circular motion with clean lint-free cotton cloth such as an old diaper. As with all cleaners, keep out of reach of children.

The rise of the Tweezerman -

(Fortune)
I grew up in Queens, N.Y., in a family of five kids and went to Catholic schools. My father was a fireman and longshoreman, working two or three jobs to support us. Every year the elementary school would raffle off a donated Cadillac to raise funds. The prize for most chances sold was a Schwinn Racer. My parents couldn't afford to buy me a bicycle, so in third grade, I sold 48 books [of raffle tickets] to get the bike, and won it. That was the start of my career.
I didn't ever want to be a guy who'd go to work and get paid by the hour. I wanted to make a difference in the world, and I thought being a millionaire would allow me to do that. So I applied to the business schools at Harvard, Columbia, and Stanford universities and got accepted by Harvard and Columbia. My background was more in the direction of the Willy Loman school of business than an Ivy League citadel, so going to Harvard really expanded my view of things.
During my undergrad and MBA years I started more than a dozen businesses, each of which imploded. I converted drive-in movie theaters to drive-in discotheques, but it rained 11 times in a row, and the business failed. I opened a waterbed store in Harvard Square, but the landlady evicted us because she was afraid the beds would leak. When I graduated from Harvard in 1971, I wanted to be a movie producer to influence opinions in society. So I spent 10 years trying to put together a film project and ended up in Venice Beach, Calif.

It was 1979, and I was running an ice cream parlor there. One day I was sunbathing au naturel with two women who were sisters on the rooftop of their apartment building next door when one sister's boyfriend showed up. Next thing I know, he was with her, and I ended up with the other sister on the redwood deck. When I went home, I had splinters all over my butt. Redwood doesn't dissolve; it infects. So I went to a drugstore and asked for needle-pointed tweezers, but couldn't find any. That gave me the idea to sell splinter tweezers.
At that point I had bounced from one business to another, and by age 32, I was $150,000 in debt and had failed at everything I'd tried. So I moved back to New York and got a minimum-wage job working for an electronics company. I saw people on the assembly line picking up diodes with needlepoint tweezers. There was my product idea! So I decided to market electronic industrial tweezers as splinter tweezers to hardware stores and lumberyards.
I started with $500, and my father, who had retired as a longshoreman, decided to invest in the idea. Over the next few years my dad lent me $180,000, and I paid him 12% interest on it. My dad also played the lottery, hoping to make $1 million one day. At some point I converted half of the $180,000 he'd lent me to stock. When I sold the company, his stock was worth $1 million, which made me really happy.
