For Sale Again: Jeffrey Dahmers Childhood Home - April 1, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

BATH TWP., Ohio Sitting on nearly two acres of beautifully-wooded property along West Bath Road with a pond, walking trails and scenic gardens sits a 2,100 square foot home that realtor Richard Lubinski believes is a real treasure.

Nice open floor plan, granite countertops, Italian appliances. The yard is absolutely fabulous, said Lubinski.

Large picture windows light the spacious living room. A wood-burning fireplace is the centerpiece of a comfortable family room. The cozy bedroom has its own fireplace and from nearly every room of the ranch style home there is a breathtaking view across northern Summit County across the National Park.

The house has a lot to offer, including a history.

It has a colorful past to say the least. It was actually the childhood home of Jeffrey Dahmer. Its actually the home where he committed his first murder, said Lubinski.

Dahmer moved into the home with his parents when he was 8 years old.

Not long after graduating from Revere High School, he took 18-year-old Steven Mark Hicks to the home where Hicks was killed and dismembered.

Dahmer later moved from the house, ultimately settling in Wisconsin where he killed most of his 17 victims over a time span of 13 years.

Lubinski is not afraid to disclose the history to any of his interested buyers.

When somebody calls me on the property, before I even get into price, room sizes, anything, I just let them know that up front and half the people are done talking about it at that point and moving on and the other half. They dont care, said Lubinski.

Mediterra's new Delfina model delights with design by Romanza Interior Design - March 30, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Submitted The four-bedroom, four-and-one-half-bath Delfina offers formal dining and living rooms, a study, living room, game room and a large outdoor living area.

London Bay Homes Delfina, the newest single-family estate model home at Mediterra, features interiors by Jennifer Stevens, one of the award-winning professionals at Romanza Interior Design.

The four-bedroom, four-and-one-half-bath Delfina offers formal dining and living rooms, a study, living room, game room and a large outdoor living area, covered verandah and fully equipped summer kitchen within 5,943 total square feet.

The Delfina was designed to capture the imagination from the moment you approach the home, said Mark Wilson, president and CEO of London Bay Homes. Weve quite intentionally added a number of details that enhance the presentation from the moment of entry and continuing throughout the home.

Romanzas transitional design theme emphasizes clean-lined furniture with wood, stone, metal and glass finishes, with a light, neutral palette as a canvas for touches of color used throughout the home in accent pillows, window treatments and upholstery.

Dashes of blue and citrus against soft whites, a dining room spun with gold accents, and a TV that pops up from custom cabinetry are among the compelling design elements.

The predominate whites in the living room, kitchen and game room visually expand and connect each room. Vibrant citrus colors unify the beamed surface of the kitchen and living room ceilings, the game room walls, and on pillows paired with blue on a neutral sofa.

Unique architectural and design accents add warmth throughout the home, including tumbled walnut travertine flooring set in an ashlar pattern in main living areas; grayed wood floors in the study, cabana guest room and game room; and volume ceilings accented with crown molding and crisp, painted beams.

The dining room, introduced from the foyer, mixes wood tones and accents of gold in the scrollwork design of the twin chandeliers, place settings atop the rectangular wood table, in the latticework backs of host chairs, and in the scroll overlays on a buffets mirrored doors.

The kitchens low-sheen arctic white cabinetry features raised paneled doors, display glass shelves and crown molding; the look is complemented by golden jade leather granite countertops and mosaic glass backsplashes. The room has a walk-in pantry and a free-standing island illuminated by a trio of glass pendants.

Want to renovate? Here are the top design trends | HomeWork - March 29, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Q: What are some of the new design trends for 2014?

A: Now that spring is here, many of us are getting the urge to renovate and update our homes. According to the Zillow Digs Trend Report for 2014, heres whats trending for this year.

Black is the new, well, black when it comes to kitchen countertops, open shelves or glass-front cabinets. Black countertops are stunning in combination with white walls but also make an elegant statement with this years trend toward darker paint tones such as deep brown, dark red and rich copper.

For bedroom updates, designers are dialing back on color and keeping design elements simple for a more contemporary look and feel. Bedroom redoes are showing up in neutrals.

Gray is a top choice because of its multifaceted versatility. It can look rustic or contemporary and in the right shade, mixes well with other neutrals like beiges and blues. If you are redoing your master closet space, think about creating your own mini-boutique with compartmentalized storage, shoe walls, vanity areas and other focal points.

If your closet space is small, consider some of the many ingenious storage options such as under-the-bed storage or storage units that can hang from closet doors. An old trunk or storage bench at the foot of the bed can be other options.

One of the hottest bathroom trends is to build or remodel the space to accommodate large, frameless showers that have multiple shower heads, to create a spalike shower experience. It puts less emphasis on having a tub.

Glass tiles are on trend for their light and bright look, which can make a bathroom space seem larger. Heated floors and towel racks are also popular.

If you are planning a remodel, work with your contractor to create custom storage solutions to keep your new bathroom uncluttered. One of the advantages of the frameless shower and lack of shower curtain is the free wall space it leaves, which can allow for storage or showcase the glass tiles.

Due to the increasing popularity of telecommuting, another trend is for owners to create a home office. If space is a challenge, reconfiguring a guest room allows it to serve double duty.

Baby Boomers Are in Downsizing Mode - March 25, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- At 78 million strong, baby boomers usually get what they want as consumer.

That's how we got the Ford Mustang, lite beer, granite countertops and video on demand. The younger half of the boomers famously said, "I want my MTV" -- and they got it.

So when boomers start saying they're tired of "going big" on everything from cheeseburgers to McMansions, businesses better begin paying close attention, and that's exactly what the generation born between 1946 to 1964 is saying now. It's a downsizing world they want, and they're going to get it,but not without the amenities and comforts the materialistic boomers are famous for.

"Those baby boomers who worked hard for and embraced the affluent lifestyle of the 1970s through the middle of the last decade owning large homes and spacious vehicles -- have reached a turning point," says Sheryl Connelly, global consumer trends and a "futurist" for Ford. "This generation is now trending toward a simpler way of living, one that doesn't eliminate the lavish comforts they've come to enjoy.
