Houston Overhead Door Now Carries a Full Line of Services and Repairs for Broken Garage Doors - May 22, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Houston, Texas (PRWEB) May 22, 2014

For more than 20 years Houston Overhead Door has covered a vast swath of Texas with its large inventory of garage doors. Recently, the locally owned and operated company decided to further enhance its reputation by announcing new services for customers who have broken garage doors.

No other moving object in a house or building is as large as a garage door, which is often operated with an electric door opener. So, proper installation, maintenance, and operation are of utmost importance. Otherwise the garage door, coupled with the automatic opener, can become a lethal object, causing serious injury or even death. Houston Overhead Door provides parts and services to ensure that broken garage doors are efficiently repaired or replaced.

Houston Overhead Door accommodates both residential and commercial projects. For residential customers, they have other choices besides the traditional wood doors. Houston Overhead Door provides Avante aluminum and glass doors that add a modern touch, and the Coachman Collection of carriage-style doors use older architectural styles to evoke a retro feel. The galvanized and pre-painted three-layer steel doors are for customers who want more durability than the broken ones they wish to replace.

For commercial customers, Houston Overhead Door provide products in accordance with the type of business. Polyurethane insulated sectional doors are perfect for warehouses, full-view aluminum and glass garage ones are better suited for car dealerships and fire stations, and security grille and roll-up doors are ideal for store fronts and shopping malls.

Distinguishing itself from Internet-based companies that contract out work to various firms, Houston Overhead Door prides itself in creating replacement garage door solutions in-house. The company assures customers that their installation and service staff are factory-trained and continuously educated to perform their jobs in a professional and timely manner.

About Houston Overhead Door: Founded in 1991, Houston Overhead Door is a full service garage door company, providing replacements and repairs to residential and commercial clients. The company covers the entire Houston metropolitan area, in addition to cities and towns in seven other counties in Texas. Types of doors that Houston Overhead Door provides include wood, aluminum, steel, carriage, sectional, commercial roll up, and rolling steel doors. The company's physical address is 7450 Fairbanks N. Houston Road, Houston, Texas 77040. For placing orders, customers can dial 713-343-6099.

Commercial Opportunities in Brazil for U.S. Firms - May 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Brazil is the worlds seventh-largest economy and the United States ninth-largest merchandise trading partner, with two-way trade totaling nearly $72 billion last year. The U.S. is Brazils second-largest export market and its leading foreign investor, with an accumulated foreign direct investment stock in 2012 of $79 billion. Brazil has begun an ambitious program to draw in private capital and managerial expertise to upgrade the nations infrastructure. With this in mind, Joel Reynoso, commercial officer, and Patrick Levy, commercial specialist in charge of the architectural, construction and engineering sectors with the U.S. Embassys Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, discussed these opportunities in a question-and-answer format.

Q: In Brazil, what are some trends, economic or otherwise, that U.S. companies should be aware of?

A: Brazils large and growing economy offers U.S. companies opportunities in many different industry sectors. Its large and fast-growing middle class is attracted to high-value goods and services. Furthermore, Brazil has a wealth of natural resources, such as water and oil and gas, which places the country on the right path to sustainable growth. However, the countrys investments in infrastructure have not kept pace with its economic growth over the past decade, which has impeded further economic growth. As a result, Brazils current government is ramping up investments in infrastructure, including in areas such as power generation, railroads, highways, airports, urban mobility and seaports.

Q: What kind of infrastructure, engineering and construction opportunities and projects are available?

A: Several. First, we will provide a brief overview. The Brazilian government has introduced incentives for infrastructure investment in the country and is planning to ease regulations in order to attract more investment. The infrastructure investment is estimated at approximately $400 billion over the coming years. This amount does not include investments already in place that are directly related to the upcoming World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. As the population throughout Brazil continues to move to urban centers, we are seeing plans for constructing schools, hospitals, hotels and residential projects, both upscale and low-income housing. For example, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, which is hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics, three new state-of-the-art hospitals are being planned. According to the builders' association, SindusCon, civil construction in Brazil grew 4% in 2013. Below is a snapshot of some key infrastructure opportunities:

One of the primary goals is to ease the burden of transporting goods in the agricultural and commodities sectors. Currently, farmers in the center-west part of the country must transport their export products 1,200 miles south to ports in the states of So Paulo and Paran. The Brazilian government recently announced that private-sector investors will compete for concessions to control approximately 4,500 miles of toll roads and 6,000 miles of railways. Since September 2013, the Brazilian government has auctioned four federal highways, and its Ministry of Transportation envisions attracting $18 billion in private investment into this sector. The ports sector is set to receive $23.5 billion in new private investment under Brazils Investment in Logistics program. It is expected that terminals at the Port of Santos and the northern state of Para will be the first auctioned under this program.

Concessions to renovate five of the largest airports in the country are also under way. A fast-growing Brazilian middle class that now exceeds well over 100 million people has led to greater demand for air travel and airport infrastructure. The international airports in the southeastern region alone, which includes So Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, represent more than 70% of the countrys total airport operational passenger demand. With more concessions in regional airports expected, current and future winners of airport concessions in Brazil will need to work with worldwide suppliers of services and technologies to expand and modernize Brazils airports.

While So Paulo and Rio de Janeiro continue to be the countrys primary business hubs, U.S. firms also should look to project opportunities in the growing northeastern part of the country. Pernambuco state recently held is first open bid for, exclusively, solar-energy projects, which closed successfully last December. This open bid resulted in the selection of six consortia to install nearly 123 megawatts of solar-energy capacity, about 10 times greater than what all of Brazil had installed by the end of 2013. Pernambuco is home to the region's industrial complex and the Port of Suape, with more than 100 companies in operation and another 25 in various stages of construction. Suape hosts the largest shipyard in the Southern Hemisphere and has two new shipyards under construction. Plans for future expansion in this state offer potential lucrative opportunities for U.S. firms. According to local business leaders, the government of Pernambuco plans to invest $20 billion over the next 10 years to develop 14 planned cities.

New Will County courthouse moving into planning stage - May 20, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    BY SUSAN DEMAR LAFFERTY slafferty@southtownstar.com May 19, 2014 7:24PM

    Updated: May 19, 2014 8:48PM

Planning for Will Countys new judicial complex could begin this summer if the county board approves the scope of services outlined by Darien-based architectural firm Wight & Co.

In a meeting of the ad hoc courthouse committee on Monday, Jason Dwyer, Wights project executive, said the firms preliminary design work would include population projections, visits to other courthouses, meetings with those who use the facility, cost estimates and a concept plan.

Wights plan of action is to be discussed at the June 3 capital improvements committee meeting before going to the full board June 19.

Chief Judge Richard Schoenstedt said presiding judges are eager to start and ready to cooperate.

To him, the most important aspect is to have the most technologically current courthouse possible, he said.

Dwyer said the planning process will incorporate technology and security, as well as overall efficiency and flexibility of operations.

The judicial complex will house judges, and departments including court clerk, states attorney, public defender, jury commission, sheriffs department, court administration, court reporters and probation.

Dwyer said he plans to meet with all these groups to determine how they interact and how much space they need. If Wights plan is approved in June, he said he would like to begin meeting with staff right away.

Code Compliance Research Report from Architectural Testing Confirms ClarkDietrich's … - May 10, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

West Chester, Ohio ClarkDietrich Building Systems is pleased to announce that it has received a Code Compliance Research Report (CCRR) from Architectural Testing, Inc. (ATI) for its ProSTUD Drywall Framing System (ProSTUD and ProTRAK). The report, CCRR-0207, confirms the system's compliance with the 2012 International Building Code, 2012 International Residential Code and the 2013 California and 2010 Florida Building Codes.

The in-depth report verifies the structural properties and allowable composite limiting heights of the ProSTUD system. In addition, the report makes it clear that the ProSTUD Equivalent (EQ) Coatings of Eco-Green ChemGuard 315, ChemGuard 615 or TecCoat Brugal Framecoat are equivalent or superior to ASTM A653 G40 hot dipped galvanized coatings per ASTM C645.

"The issuance of the Code Compliance Research Report confirms that ClarkDietrich drywall framing products are manufactured to the strictest of quality guidelines and meet stringent building code requirements," said Bill Courtney, CEO, ClarkDietrich Building Systems. "In fact, no other drywall framing system has been as thoroughly tested as the ProSTUD System. Architects that specify the system can be confident that their projects have the highest performing steel stud on the market."

The patented ProSTUD Drywall Framing System combines innovative design with high-strength steel that sets the industry benchmark for high-performance drywall framing. The diamond embossed web creates stiffness, thereby reducing flange fade and screw spinout during drywall installation. The strong, lightweight stud and track also cuts and handles easier than conventional flat studs.

Architectural Testing Evaluation Services introduced the CCRR in 2005 as a qualified alternative to an ICC-ES Evaluation Report. The conclusions of a CCRR are backed by review of the manufacturer's quality control system, inspection of the manufacturing facilities, and independent laboratory testing. ATI's Evaluation Services are accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Towson key to countywide commercial revitalization - May 5, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

As Towson goes so goes Baltimore Countys other Commercial Revitalization Districts.

At least that is the opinion of Robert E. Latshaw Jr. , chairman of the Baltimore County Economic Development Commission. During an interview for a story about Towson developing into an urban area, Latshaw argued that if the county couldnt spur growth in the county seat it was going to have a hard time attracting investment in other parts if the county.

If you cant save Towson, and have it grow like its been growing, theres no way you can save the other revitalization districts like Pikesville, Parkville, Catonsville and Essex, Latshaw said. The county seat has got to be a success and it is. And will be more so in the future.

There are 16 commercial revitalizationareas in Baltimore County. All of the zones are considered front doors to our desired established communities, according to the countys website. Resources such as 10 free hours of architectural services, a $30,000 interest-free loan and a commercial revitalization tax credits are available in the zones.

Gerald Rauenhorst, Twin Cities developer and St. Thomas benefactor, dies at 86 - April 27, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gerald "Gerry" Rauenhorst -- a development and construction tycoon who grew up without indoor plumbing, pioneered the "design-build" concept and founded what would eventually grow into the Minnetonka-based Opus Group, a commercial real estate powerhouse, died Thursday at the age of 86, according to his family.

School officials noted that Rauenhorst, a University of St. Thomas graduate, was one of the most influential and generous alumni in the St. Paul-based university's history -- often guiding development and helping to design or construct nearly two dozen campus buildings.

"For all his greatness -- and he was truly a great man -- he never came across as anything more than a common man and your next-door neighbor," the Rev.

    Gerry Rauenhorst

Born in Olivia, Minn., in 1927, Rauenhorst started in sales amid the Great Depression as a 6-year-old purveyor of sweet corn, working a stand near his family's tenant farm.

"We were poor in material things -- we didn't even have an indoor biffy (toilet) until I was 15 -- but we were rich in the things that count," Rauenhorst, the seventh of eight children, wrote in his 2003 memoir, "A Better Way: Faith, Family, and the First Fifty Years of the Opus Group of Companies."

Rauenhorst graduated from St. Thomas in 1948 with a bachelor's degree in economics. He went on to receive a bachelor's in civil engineering from Marquette University in 1951. After that, he worked for two years as an engineer and job estimator. Then, at age 25, he founded Rauenhorst Construction out of his Richfield home with $354 in cash and a $2,500 loan from his brother, a farmer.

With no employees and the help of his late wife, Henrietta "Hanky" Schmoll Rauenhorst, whom he married in 1950, he worked from sunrise until late into the evening most days, family members said.

That same year, he landed a contract to build a new church for Zion Lutheran in Olivia.

Rauenhorst Construction -- renamed Opus in 1982 -- grew as its founder bought and developed swaths of suburban land using the new "design-build" concept, in which both architectural and construction services were provided by a single company, without contracting them out.
