Church’s request for building delay sparks Channahon Village Board - June 21, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

By Jeanne Millsap For The Herald-News June 20, 2012 10:36AM

    Updated: June 20, 2012 4:08PM

CHANNAHON Temperaments in the Channahon Village Board room Monday evening were as hot as the weather outside as representatives from an area church once again asked trustees for more time to complete required construction.

The First Baptist Church of Channahon has built a new church and school on the villages northeast side, just north of Route 6, but the deadline for completing parking lot and landscaping work came and went on June 15 without the work being done.

You gave us a commitment you would have that in, Trustee Jerry Papesh said.

Pastor Randy Blan told trustees he did not agree to have the work completed by the deadline in the first place when the board granted the church a partial occupancy permit last November provided the remaining work would be completed by June 15.

I didnt have a choice, Blan said regarding the deadline. I feel like that commitment was forced on us.

This was not the first time church members have come before the board asking for more time or special allowances. Last August, the village board granted a temporary 90-day occupancy permit for the churchs school, Families of Faith Christian Academy, to allow the church time to complete its parking lot, lights, parking islands and landscaping.

The board gave the allowance so the church would be able to open the school at the beginning of the school year.

According to village staff, however, the required work was not completed within 90 days. Trustees then unanimously approved removing the 90-day limit and granting a partial occupancy permit provided the work was completed by June 15.

EMAS CANADA Aid to Haiti – Feeding the Hungry - June 20, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

19-06-2012 13:51 The El-Shaddai community church, health clinic, primary school and feeding centre were all destroyed by the January 2010 earthquake. Supporting the community, EMAS is helping Haiti build, better than before, with assistance from Engineering Ministries International (eMi). In March 2011, construction began on the El?Shaddai Ministry Centre, in Bon Repos (Port-au-Prince), which is to include a church/hurricane shelter, primary school, feeding centre and healthcare clinic. EMAS supports the primary school and the feeding programme which provides a meal three times a week for the children. EMAS also sends a medical team annually which sees many patients and conducts training to empower local healthcare providers. They leave behind medical supplies and toys for the children. They also organised a sports programme for the young people of the El-Shaddai church.

Peru 2012: La Iglesia de la Compañia de Jesus – Video - June 19, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

19-06-2012 07:48 This was one of the two churches we visited during our day of sightseeing in Arequipa. It is a very old church, originally constructed as a Jesuit church. Construction began in 1590 and was completed in 1698. It's not a very big church, but very beautifully decorated. It is constructed from sillar, the white volcanic rock quarried from the side of the volcanic mountain Misti. More information:

Friendship Baptist Church under construction - June 19, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

HENAGAR Carpenters for Christ are helping make a new church building a reality for the congregation of Friendship Baptist Church.

Loretta Shankles, a 50-year member of the congregation, said the church created a building fund about 10 years ago, and things fell into place earlier than expected when Carpenters for Christ volunteered to help build the church.

We werent expecting it to happen this summer, Shankles said. A group of Carpenters for Christ from Piedmont framed and blocked in the church. There were almost 100 of them that conducted this mission. They did a tremendous amount of work. Some of the Carpenters for Christ said they want to come back when we get started on the sheetrock.

Shankles said the existing church building near Henagar was built in the 1930s and is supported by rock pillars. She said over time the pillars had become unstable and some of the Sunday School rooms had started to sag and pull away from the building.

The new building is being built just below the existing church. The church tore down its existing fellowship hall to build a larger church building. Shankles said the new building will be a little large for about 60 Sunday school children and a weekly service count of about 80-100 people.

Were not a big church, she said. The new one is big. Were building for the future. We know God can fill it up.

Shankles said she visited the church on Wednesday morning and windows were being put into the building. However she said there was still a lot left to do. She said electrical and plumbing had to be installed and next the church would be bricked. She said a nice addition to the church is a basement with rebar-reinforced concrete that could provide shelter from severe weather something the church escaped last April.

We were fortunate that we didnt have any damage from the tornadoes, Shankles said. I think some shingles may have been blow off, but that was it. God was good to us, and we werent damaged by the storm.

Shankles said she wasnt sure when the congregation would hold its first service in the new church which has been pastored by Darrell Sears since 1994.

We havent heard an exact date, she said. We still have a lot of work to do before we can get into it. Were hoping for the first of the year, but we dont know for sure.

The two men were beaten by the mob on the night of May 27th 2012 as they were caught in the act by passersby. One managed to escape while the other died after being stoned by a crowd of people. According to sources, the two were food vendors in Kayole in a make shift kiosk in the sprawling estate. The deceased was the cook at the kiosk while the one who managed to escape was charged with packing and handling of the food. Identity Kenya confirmed that the deceased's first name was Kamau. It is said the two have 'been enjoying prolonged stares for month and the deceased made the first move.' None knew the other was gay though they both identified as gay. The two are said to have agreed to have meet up behind the Catholic Church building in Soweto estate at 8pm on the fateful day. From there, sources say, they began to have sex. The area is described as 'deserted with bushes and a dumping site.' In the darkness, the two were caught with passersby as they were having sex and they were beaten up after a confrontation.
