San Jose, Ca (PRWEB) August 27, 2014
Conklin Bros., a flooring store that offers top-quality hardwood, carpet, tile, linoleum and more at affordable prices, is pleased to announce that its San Jose location has been open for 51 years this August. Since opening for business in 1963, the San Jose Conklin Bros. store has been committed to both its customers and the community.
The Oderio family first opened the San Jose location 51 years ago. The companys president, Rick Oderio, grew up in the business and has worked in just about every capacity over the years, including installation, sales and customer care. In addition to living up to its motto, You Can Count On Us, in relation to their clients, the Oderios feel strongly that the local community can also rely on Conklin Bros. for help.
Conklin Bros. recognizes that staying in business for so many years takes more than just offering a great product. It also takes giving superior customer service and taking a leadership role in the community we serve, a company spokesperson noted, adding that this is why Conklin Bros. has made a commitment to assist community-driven initiatives like Project PEARLS, a Bay Area-based initiative to help Filipinos living in the slums of Manila and elsewhere move into more dignified living circumstances.
It is one way for Conklin Bros. to say thank you to the community for allowing them to serve the Bay Area for over a century, and it is a commitment they intend to honor for years to come.
In 2013, Conklin Bros.' commitment to the environment led to over 2000 pounds of used carpet being recycled, saving precious space in our landfills. Partnering up with local non-profits like Campus-California is proof-positive that every business can make a difference.

PALM COAST Flagler County officials expect minor service interruptions at the main branch of the library in Palm Coast as renovation projects get underway.
Work began Wednesday, said Andy Johnson, the countys special projects coordinator.
Roof repairs and flooring installation will happen simultaneously, he said in a written statement.
The childrens room will be closed until Sept. 5, library director Holly Albanese said.
The garden room will also be closed as it will serve as storage for furniture and bookshelves that have be moved.
Well be getting our meeting room back, with the elections over, she said by phone Monday. Everything has to be packed, so theres not much left in the room.
Likewise, all the books may not be back on the shelves by the reopening of the room.
There is a lot to do, Albanese said.
It will be repainted, and while much of the library is getting new carpeting, the childrens room will get vinyl plank tiles that look like hardwood but will be easier to clean.

Utahn among 2 LDS missionaries found dead in Taiwan

SPRINGVILLE " In every picture that came to Greg and Cindy Thredgold of their son serving a mission in Taiwan, there was something that stood out.
"Connor just never smiled that big," Greg Thredgold said Saturday. "In every photo he is so happy, and he wrote back how he just loved the people of Taiwan and was just so loved by them. We would just get the pictures and go, 'Look how happy he is. He is truly, genuinely happy to be serving the Lord.'"
Connor Benjamin Thredgold, 19, was one of three LDS missionaries " two of them from Utah " who died this weekend in two separate incidents. His mother said she knows he was where he wanted to be.
"He wanted to do this," she said Saturday at her Springville home. "He wanted to make his family proud. He was truly happy doing what he was doing."
Connor Thredgold, of the Church's Springville Utah West Stake, was found dead in his apartment, along with Elder Yu Peng Xiong, of the Kaohsiung Taiwan West Stake.
Authorities have not yet determined the official cause of their deaths, but Church spokeswoman Jessica Moody said no foul play is suspected. The family declined to answer any questions about potential causes, referring questions to Moody. She said late Saturday the church still had not been able to confirm any cause.
"Elder Xiong, age 24, had been serving as a missionary since March of 2013. Elder Thredgold, age 19, began his mission in March of 2014," Moody said. "We pray for their families and for all those who knew them, and express our love and deepest sympathies at this tragic time."

Jan Brandt is a legend in the world of marketing. She singlehandedly led the famous AOL carpet-bombing campaign that put millions of AOL trial discs and CDs in everything from magazines to popcorn boxes to banks. In the most recent episode of the Internet History Podcast, I spoke to Jan about this famous campaign, how the strategy developed and the analytics and data that went into it. What follows is a lightly edited transcript of portions of our conversation. Click above to listen to the whole thing, or download it in iTunes here.
Brandt was been recruited to AOL in 1993 with a simple mission: grow the subscriber base. At the time, online services were a novel product. The majority of American homes didnt have computers yet, much less, computers with modems. Also, AOL was a distant 3rd or 4th in the online services market, behind CompuServe and Prodigy. So Brandt was given free reign to get creative with her marketing efforts. Prodigy was famously spending millions of dollars on flashy television ads. But Brandt was convinced that old-school, unsexy, direct marketing might be the key to standing out. After all, she needed to get people to try the service, and the only way to do that was to get the AOL installation discs in their hands.
We started packaging them [the installation discs] in boxes and tins and things like that. It was my absolute belief that you could not send someone a package in the mailand I dont mean an envelope, I mean a package that you could feeland not open it. I felt that it was constitutionally impossible for someone to get a small box in the mail and not be inspired to open it.
Armed with this belief, she phoned up her boss, AOL CEO Steve Case, and asked for money to experiment with a direct mail campaign. Case was skeptical, but gave her the go-ahead.
The campaign was going to cost $250,000 and that was our first campaign. It was a lot of money for us at the time. Steve teased me that it wasnt going to work. I mean, he has, you know, something of a dry wit. But he backed me completely. He backed me on that and he backed me on the next millions of dollars.
It turned out that the campaign exceeded her wildest expectations. In the direct marketing arena, a response rate of 2-3% for a campaign is considered a home run success. But Brandt was seeing response rates which were multiples of that.
Ive done a lot of first campaigns and launched a lot of products [...] I have never this was beyond imagination. [...] The overall response to that campaign was a staggering over 10% uptake. And remember, this isnt people who are saying, I think I want this. These are people who are taking the disc, putting it into the computer, signing up, and giving us a credit card. The top list, for that, I have never seen in my life beforeor sincewas a 20% response. It was stratospheric.

The Pros And Cons Of Different Types Of Home Flooring

Question: We bought a small ranch house three miles from Bethany Beach, Del., in 2007. The house, which we use on weekends and holidays, came with light beige wall-to-wall carpeting. After lots of guests and two dogs, its now in desperate need of replacement.
Ive gone to flooring stores, but get overwhelmed by the choices: laminate (good for our dogs but bad for resale?); wood (so many different kinds and price points, bad for dogs, not good for areas near a beach?); engineered wood (what is that?); tile?; bamboo? Different carpet (yuck)? What is the best flooring for this near-the-beach house?
Chevy Chase
Answer: A floor thats easy to sweep, mop or vacuum, depending on the level of grime, seems like the best fit. You and your guests want to enjoy your time at this house. You dont want to scold people for traipsing in after expeditions to the beach. Nor do you want to spend much time cleaning.
You might want to focus on the types of vinyl that manufacturers market as luxury vinyl. Available as planks, tiles and sometimes sheets, it comes in styles that mimic hardwood, stone or ceramic tile. The designs are high-definition photographs of actual wood, stone or ceramic tiles, so the resemblance is very close. The photo layer is topped with a thick, clear layer that resists scratches and stains. Most spills wipe up with just warm water. Installing vinyl that looks like pricey tropical hardwood flooring could seem a little odd in an informal, simple house. Many of the designs that look like stone or ceramic tile look less pretentious.
If you dont like the idea of vinyl or cant find a style you like, other good options include bamboo, which is harder than most hardwoods, and stone or ceramic tile, provided you choose a style thats slip-resistant and rated for use as flooring. Instead of spending several weekends looking through samples at home centers or flooring stores, you might want to browse through the design sections of manufacturers Web sites, such as http://www.armstrong.com and http://www.mohawkflooring.com.
Skip carpet, if for no other reason than that it makes you say yuck. Traditional hardwood flooring isnt a great choice, either; to keep it in good shape, youd need to be too protective of it. Laminate, which is very tough and therefore sometimes recommended for houses with dogs, can be so slick that dogs slide around on it. And if it does get scratched from beach sand and dogs, theres no way to repair it.
Question: I have a Ridgeway grandfather clock that loses about five minutes a day. I have adjusted the pendulum to the max but it is still slow. What can I do to fix it myself?
