Culpeper Library renovation nears completion - December 16, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

As the Culpeper County Library renovation and expansion nears completion, the local institution will close for painting, carpet installation and in observance of the holidays over the next few weeks.

"A little harried," said Culpeper County Librarian Susan Keller, asked how she was feeling about the almost finished renovation and expansion. "Actually, I'm feeling a little displaced they're in my office painting," she said Tuesday.

The library will close for interior painting of the main section Dec. 15 and Dec. 16, though Santa Storytime will still happen on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. with the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals helping out as elves.

The library will close for the holidays Dec. 24, reopening Dec. 27.

Then on Dec. 29, it will close again for installation of new carpet and the New Year holiday before reopening on Jan. 5. Keller said to call ahead because the library might reopen that Saturday, Jan. 3 if the carpet installation is completed.

Culpeper-based Crenshaw Construction, contractor on the library job, will use hydraulic lifts to lift the book shelves to install the new carpet, replacing old flooring that's nearly 18 years old. All of the library furniture, much of it torn, also had to be recovered, Keller said.

No library materials will be due back during the times of closure. The library is also asking that patrons not return materials during the carpet installation.

The estimated $315,000 library project began in April and is slated for completion upon its reopening in early January. Community donations are completely funding the construction, including money left to the library in people's wills.

"That is what we saved it for this kind of capital project," said Keller of a fund maintained by the county. "We are all looking forward to it being completed."

L.A. Live's 4D Installation by CJ 4DPlex Expected to Launch Early July - December 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

LAS VEGAS -- Seoul-headquartered "4D" cinema company CJ 4DPlex has inked a deal with AEG to install its first U.S.-based 4DX system at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14 in Los Angeles, which will be a 100-seat theater expected to be completed in late June or early July.

This timing would offer the possibility to launch with one of CJ 4DPlex's upcoming 4D titles such as DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon 2, which, along with Paramount's Noah, will be previewed in 4D this week in a demonstration during theater owners confab CinemaCon.

Also scheduled for 4DX-supported theaters are titles such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

In 2013, there were 58 titles mastered in the format, including Gravity, Frozen, Iron Man 3 and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Company execs said they aim to work with the filmmakers to create these experiences, which combine 3D with features such as motion, wind, strobe, fog, mist, rain and "scent-based" effects.

L.A. Live reps said the company had not yet determined what the surcharge will be for the 4D experience. Meanwhile, CJ 4DPlex plans to continue to target major U.S. cities for additional sites.

It currently has 91 theater installations in 23 countries, including Bulgaria, China, Chile, Czech Republic, Hungary, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.

It opened in Vietnam during January, and next month plans to debut in India and the Philippines.

Marshall ISD board to hear teacher report - December 13, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

A public hearing is scheduled Monday at the Marshall Independent School Districts board of trustee meeting to hear a report on the highly qualified section of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Section 1119 of the act requires that all teachers in the core academic subject areas should have met the highly qualified teacher requirements by the end of the 2006-07 school year.

Based on the Texas Education Agencys review of the 2013-14 local education agency highly qualified teacher data, the state is close to meeting this goal.

In Marshall, professional staff members are close to meeting that goal, according to Greg Morris, executive director of human resources and administrative services.

At this time last year, MISD had five staff members waiting to meet those requirements as outlined by the act. This year, there are three one is applying for certification and two are in the process.

We sent in our reports to TEA in mid-November, and we have until June of next year to amend the report, Morris said at the districts pre-agenda meeting Thursday.

As for the paraprofessionals in the district, We are at a 100 percent meeting the highly qualified standards, he said.

The hearing will be in part to present to the public facts regarding the highly qualified teacher stats for MISD.

Richele Langley, district curriculum director, and Katina Brown, Marshall High School principal, will present a report on updates about the high school and the local college partnerships with MISD.

With House Bill 5, there have been a lot of changes, and challenges, at the high school, Langley told the board Thursday. But overall, we are pleased.

Roberto CoinVoice: A Weekend In Turin: The Perfect Winter Getaway - December 13, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    By Sophia Macris

Rome has the Coliseum, Florence has the Uffizi, Venice has the gondolas, Vicenza has the Roberto Coin factories, and Capri has the Blue Grotto. But Turin? Turin has FIAT, you may say. If travelers to Italy have heard of Turin at all, it is maybe because of Italys largest automaker. All the better for you: the dearth of tourists makes Turin an ideal weekend destination, especially in the winter. And youll soon find it to be more than just the Detroit of Italy.

    Friday Afternoon

Arrive in Turin on the Frecciarossa train from Milan. Even the high-speed train signals the efficiency of northern Italy; were close to Switzerland here, and you can feel it in the airand the on-time arrivals. From the train, you can walk to your lodgings for the weekend, the elegant and understated Townhouse 70 hotel, part of the small luxury Townhouse chain. The hotels rooms are modern and well-appointed, and the central location is perfect for exploring the heart of this Piemontese city.

As in most of northern Italy, aperitivo culture is sacred in Turin. Lobelix, a caf in the Piazza Savoia just a short walk from the hotel, takes aperitivi to Alpine heights. The two-level caf spills out into the piazza in nice weather, but the spread of snacks inside is what draws crowds. Locals quaff negronis and Prosecco while munching on a veritable buffet. They take their snacks seriously in this town. From canaps to cannelloni, the treats will more than tide you over for your evening stroll.

Turin is renowned for its holiday lights, and not in the tacky, National Lampoon Christmas way. The Luci dArtista is an initiative geared toward bolstering Turins reputation as a center of contemporary art in northern Italy, and the entire city glows during the winter months. The traditional lighted signs of the citys shops and restaurants join installation pieces with names like Flying Carpet and Solar Wind from artists such as Luigi Nervo, Alfredo Jaar, Enrica Borghi, and Vanessa Safavi. Neon lights are suspended over the streets, strung between buildings, and you cant help but feel magic in the air.

    Saturday

After breakfast at the hotel, you head out for some culture and history. Turin is home to the Museo Egizio, one of the worlds finest collections of Egyptian art, courtesy of several generations of Piemontese Egyptologists who amassed a trove of mummies and other artifacts. The museum is in the midst of continuing renovations, and recently opened the Statuario, an absolutely breathtaking gallery designed by Oscar-winning art director Dante Ferretti to showcase its collection of sarcophagi. Theres even a temple transported from Egypt after the construction of the Aswan High Dam. From the Museo Egizio, feed your appetite at the original Eataly, opened here in 2007. Though a worldwide phenomenon now, this one-stop food emporium celebrating the gusto and grace of Italian gastronomy was born right here in Turin. Its location in the Piedmonte region of Italy has always ensured that Turin produces (and consumes) some of the best food in Italy. Enjoy traditional pastas and a glass of local wine downstairs in one of the restaurants, then shop for souvenirs your friends and family will really love.

Ghosts of Melbourne past haunt new Docklands sculpture park by Callum Morton - December 12, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Sledging Docklands as a "ghost town" has new meaning, with the launch of a colourful sculpture park by artist Callum Morton in the New Quay district.

"I want the ghosts of the Hoddle Grid, of Melbourne past, to call out to Docklands and say 'come to us, be a part of us'," Morton saidat the launch of the 2000-square-metre permanent public art installation, dubbed Monument Park, which has been bank-rolled by the Buxton family development company MAB.

"Critically we wanted to emphasise the idea that Docklands should be regarded not as an isolated precinct but as an extension and an integral part of the City of Melbourne proper. The ground plane is imagined as a concrete carpet derived from the original Hoddle plan that is draped across the side, rising and falling as it covers an arrangement of objects," he said.

The park, which Morton said was not seven works but one map, has been made for sitting in, playing with and walking around, he said. Even as it was being launched, workers had adopted the space for their lunch break.

"The word interactive is a funny one, but I wanted to make these cave-like areas inside.I love the idea that what you might think of as an art object becomes a piece of outdoor furniture as well."

Introducing a Lower Cost of Refinishing Hardwood Floors by a Professional, Experienced Service, Thanks to the … - December 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) December 03, 2014

There are many benefits with hardwood flooring. First and foremost, it creates a sense of comfort and elegance, along with continuity from one room to the next. It is more durable than carpet and requires less care than tile. Laminate floors tear over time and tiles crack. Grout cleaning is a regular demand and carpet frays, tears, and mats down.

Hardwood does not trap allergens and is easy to care for with regular sweeping and vacuuming. Refinishing is necessary occasionally, but it can be very costly, especially if left to an unskilled and inexperienced individual or team. Fortunately, the cost of refinishing hardwood floors just got less expensive, thanks to the team at Royal Wood Floors.

These experienced and skilled individuals put years of high-quality work into every single project. Too many homeowners and businesses fall victim to low ball offers for complex and nuanced work. The cost of fixing mistakes is very high but completely avoidable.

A proven professional team will deliver exceptional wood floor installation service at a reasonable cost and with a customer commitment. The company states that homeowners and businesses not give work to individuals or services which do not provide license and insurance information and do not have references or a portfolio of past projects.

Wood floor restoration is a time-consuming process that requires an extensive skill set. Homeowners and businesses place their trust in service providers to deliver the best results at a fair price. However, some vendors prey on others, often offering substantial discounts.

To get the most out of hardwood, regularly sweep and vacuum. Do not use steel wool or attempt to pull up protruding nails. Abrasive cleaners cause dulling and discoloring of hardwood floors, something difficult to repair. Never use a damp or wet mop on wood flooring and do not use soap or oil-based cleaners.

Refinishing wood floors requires a skilled team that is dedicated to the trade and has a demonstrable track record of providing excellent customer service and high-quality work.

With proper care and regular maintenance, hardwood floors will last for generations and provide a space with an elegant and continuous look from room to room. Buffing and coating occasionally will help to beautify wood flooring. Any warped or split planks usually can be replaced by a professional, saving the cost of a new installation.

For more information about this experienced and professional wood flooring contractor, or to schedule repairs by this Wauwatosa hardwood floor company, or learn about custom wood styles or the companys inlay and medallion installation services, phone Keith Allman at 414-378-2066. Estimates and appointments can be made through the companys website, RoyalWoodFloor.com. The company provides top craftsmanship and cares for many types of custom and domestic wood.
